The Hook Up Cafe

Great drinks/​prices/​grub, and awesome local music. They have a number of local brews behind the bar if you’re into the craft stuff like I am. The scene here is pretty fun! I always bump into friends when I visit this place. It can be loud, so if you’re sensitive to loud music or partying hard, stuff your earplugs in your ears, grab a drink and come join in the fun!

Went late on a Wednesday night. Wasn’t very busy but the pool table was. Staff was awesome, drinks were cheap. And the playlist they created (the staff) was awesome, c’mon how many bars do you walk in and they’re playing Lifetime!!! I wish I would have caught the bartender’s name, but she was sweet and polite and attentive. I’ve been to a couple of bars in that area, and they’re not really my «thing» I guess. So maybe this was more a little my pace. OH AND THE BATHROOM WAS CLEAN. That’s always a plus for me.

Solid place, very clean, it usually doesn’t smell like piss but Amish P must have amish peed his pants and smelt that all night. Great happy hour and great chicken wings. Free punk and rock shows all of the time.

This place sucks! Came here one time will never return. Disgusting inside. Shit and piss all over the bathroom! Yum!

One of the best spots the Oceanfront has to offer. The staff is awesome and friendly, the drinks are cold, the happy hour rocks, and the atmosphere is completely chill. Free pool! Did you read that? FREE POOL! Nightly specials live bands on a weekly basis! Oh yeah, that reminds me, all of the shows are FREE too!
The drinks are cheap and come with personal quality service. I highly recommend trying one of their specialty drinks because they’re gonna taste great and well, they’re kind of magical! Keep that secret to yourself!
In conclusion, if you don’t know where to grab a few drinks, stop into Hook Up and getchoo some good times!

This was the worst place i’ve been to in Virginia Beach. The manager on duty was using profanity towards his patrons and not making it as unsafe environment. The manager on Feb 8 2015 around 1AM was very unprofessional. He is a complete liability to that business. He had a mob of 20 people harassing the band and costumers. He refused to kick out anyone, once i complained and asked for the owner or manager, he then violently reacted and yelled he’s the manager and this is his bar! I was shocked at this reaction. The is the nastiest place i’ve ever seen on the virginia beach oceanfront. The bathrooms were disgusting also. The whole place smells of urine and deserves to be shut down for being an unsanitary environment. The manager on duty will get that place sued. Whoever the owner is, you may want to restaff. The women bartenders that night were so embarrassed they they were taking the side of the violent patrons. After the show was over, the band and our crowd of 15 were leaving the business. The manager’s mob followed us down the street and attacked someone with 20 people. One of the men even said «i’m going to hit this girl, who’s going to put up for her?!». I was astonished. The mob then attacked one person and he was knocked unconscious on the sidewalk. I hope I can find this on video, the Virginia Beach street cameras are usually running. Honestly, the crowd that was in that place, probably aren’t the Unilocal kind of people. But, if i can defer any of their business, I’ve had a productive day.

Oh, Hook Up. Sweet, sweet Hook Up.
Have you ever watched the show Cheers and thought to yourself, ‘I really do want to go where everybody knows my name?’ Hook Up is the answer to that little, ol’ complex we all have.
This place stands as a somewhat archaic «School of Rock» –if you’re into heavy metal and heavy metal is into you, this is your spot. Live music, excellent drink specials, and friendly bartenders await you at this joint.
The VB Oceanfront is famous for The Block –a popular nightlife spot with young singletons such as myself. During the summer, youngin’s flock to this area of the beach. It’s loud, boisterous and compared to Ghent … Cheap.
Being a lil’ baby college student with a lil’ baby college student wallet, these places appeal to folk like myself. A fun, cheap escape from wasting my years away in front of Netflix and a textbook.
However, once I meandered a little off of the beaten Block path (and by little, I mean two more blocks), I found myself at Hook Up.
I was never a big fan of heavy metal. Honestly, any music with screaming lead singers has traditionally scared the jeggings off of me. And this joint boasts it. Heavily.
The good news? The service and the clientele here overshadow it all. The music that they play has really grown on me, especially when they have shows here. That’s my favorite.
Once or twice a week (sometimes more), there will be a show here with a multitude of live bands of different genres (not always heavier music) and they’re AWWWWWESOME.
The food here is nothing to write home to mom about. The pork barbecue tastes just like the barbecue at Doumar’s in Norfolk and, for the price ($ 2 a sandwich) you can’t really complain.
The mixed drinks are phenomenal. Let Shay, Mason, Ibby, Tristan, Devon, or Josh have their way with you. It’ll come out right, not weak, and delicious every time.
Like I said, the appeal for this place is that the clientele, live music, and service will really take your breath away. Hands down, my favorite bar of all time. Two big, no-​longer thirsty thumbs up, Hook Up.

Cheap, cold beer and free neck massages before 6 PM. Enjoyed talking to the bartender about his recent stomach surgery. He even showed me his scar. The bathroom had no toilet paper, but I called them on my cellphone and the bartender brought me a new roll and apologized! I will definitely be back.
