Tubby’s Tavern

I have recently been in touch with the owner of Tubby’s. I was informed of the prompt resolution of our problem, and will gladly give their establishment another chance upon my next visit to Virginia Beach.

I want to like this place so much. I really do. It’s close, the food is good when they have what you want, but there is so much wrong with it. I just left there after their Taco Tuesday. I went with my husband — I ordered two fish tacos and a beef taco and he ordered two of each. We were sitting at a big table so there were two other people sitting at it, but not «with» us. Well, you’d think when $ 2 tacos are the special they’d be ready for a busy night. Nope. I don’t know what was going on back in the kitchen but all of a sudden everyone’s food was coming out — almost one taco at a time. I don’t know what it is they don’t get about serving a group (or couple) at the same time! We were there for an hour after all was said and done. Another waitress ran the food which, as usual, came out piecemeal. My favorite part of the night was when she dropped two tacos off and let us «fight it out» as to who got them. Seriously??? If they just plated what each of us had ordered, it would’ve been fine. Argh! The beef tacos were good — the fish tacos were less so. If I would’ve paid full price for them, I would’ve been hot. And to top it off our waitress charged us full price for the beer. So — service sucked. Food was not great. My recommendation is if you HAVE to go here, don’t go when it’s busy or during happy hour or during Sunday brunch and check your check before you give them your card.

My fiancé and I have been here several times on the weekend for breakfast or brunch and we love it. Their shrimp and grits on Sunday are ah-​mazing! Seriously the tastiest I’ve ever had and it makes me sad that they’re only available on Sunday’s. We usually sit at the bar and the service is great, friendly and fast. We have no complaints but we also know what we’re getting into. Tubby’s is a local’s, no frills, tavern-​style place. It’s not fancy and there’s no view to enjoy.

The food is AMAZING!!! They have a average beer menus, BUT have local variety too! The beer that is offered is very good! The pretzel app is AMAZING!!!

In a die hard Tubbys fan, who’s consistently given 5± reviews. Wanted to go there tonight for wings & a beer. Play off night. Sat at the bar. 6pm and no specials ! Packed house, guy behind the bar didn’t understand craft beers… underwhelmed. Best news, I’m hoping for a turn around, back to the old friendly adorable Tubbys

For some reason I just like this place. Good pup food and prices. Usually very busy. I was glad when they expanded. The only issue I have is its cold in there. In the winter… Turn on the heat please. :)

Service was a bit of a mess, but overall it was better than the hole-​in-​the-​wall bar I was expecting. It’s more of a family restaurant, with the typical burgers/​hot dogs etc. We all got German hot dogs, which were big and juicy. Our only complaint was they forgot about my brother’s order (and he got the same thing as the rest of us). They didn’t offer much in the way of apology, but they did eventually bring his food.

Not a bad tavern to check out. It’s located on VB Blvd but a little hard to get to. You can 1) go in off of Great Neck Rd and roll through the parking lot where there’s the Pearl Club and Ammos Greek or 2) come in on VB Blvd and take the service road and it’s located at the end of the road.
A definite hole in the wall feel to the place although it appeared to be inside a building where multiple businesses exist where they all have the same general entrance. It was a little cold inside which made eating bit uncomfortable. I was there for a business meeting and we normally catch up on other things but we were so cold we cut out the other talk after we finished lunch.
I ordered a wrap off their lunch special menu. Honestly, I don’t remember the exact one had… Obviously, wasn’t a standout choice. But I will say that I enjoyed their tavern chips. They’re sweet potato fries, not as bad for you, but covered with bleu cheese dressing, bacon, and chives. A good choice for us!
The place really isn’t my scene but it’s worth checking out for the dive feel.

First time here since the remodeling, very impressed! Their Monte Cristo and cheesy cheddar grits are to die for! Friendly and attentive staff.

Service was a bit of a hot mess. The servers seemed a little disorganized and inattentive. My drink didn’t get a refill until it was time for the check and one of the dishes came out cold. After having waited for it for so long, I didn’t even bother sending it back. But the staff was very friendly and the food was pretty good. Nothing memorable. I was more excited about their $ 11 mimosa carafe, which turned out to be an entire bottle of sparkling wine and a large glass of orange juice. This more than made up for any complaints during the meal.

Good beer. I got the Atlantic ale for 2 bucks on Tuesdays! Along with the 2 dollar tacos. great prices! Awesome music. specials every night of the week.

I still love this place. Finally went in for an actual meal and not just treats and drinks. I had the turkey sandwich and chili lunch special… Legitimately better than anything fast food could ever offer for $ 6… This place is ridiculously awesome.

We have been to Tubby’s many times since it opened for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The food is alway great and the service friendly and fast. I’m giving it 2 stars only because we have stopped in 3 times in the last few months for brunch only to learn today (Sunday) they don’t open at 9:00 as indicated on Unilocal,their answering machine, and the hours on the building. Each time we stopped by to find the door locked there were other customers waiting for it to open. Not even a sign on the door with the new hours. Come on guys, we’ll be back but some of the folks we met waiting were trying Tubby’s for the first time. Not a good first impression.

I was greeted promptly and told to pick a seat.
I came here because a chef told me they had amazing onion rings.
There were no onion rings on the menu at all and the waitress said they didn’t have them.
I asked for water no ice, no lemon and got both-​no biggie I just went along with the flow.
I considered ordering lobster roll but I couldn’t find any reviews on it as I stealthy perused Unilocal under the table so I ordered lobster macaroni and cheese. It was good. I liked it. I wasn’t blown away or floored but it was a really nice lunch, much better that any fast food that’s for sure.
I really like that they have patio dining, I bet that would be an enjoyable experience. I have a feeling that a ton of locals are regulars here. It is a super laid back atmosphere.

They have great daily food and drink specials but they do not have the space to handle the crowds that come in for them. I waited about 30 minutes for a table and there was no sense of urgency from any of the waitresses to get us seated. Finally a few men of the restaurant (possibly the owners/​managers) informed us that we would indeed get a seat.
I could tell that the waitresses and restaurant have a fan following behind them because the majority of the time the waitresses were busy talking to other patrons that I had to get out of my seat and go over to them to get assistance.
The food is great, and the prices are not bad. I just wish the customer service was better. This is not a place that I would drive from Chesapeake to re-​visit.

Came here with some friends. Did not know the place was back here. Heard the burgers were good. Even a friend said the black bean burger was good and he is not a vegetarian. I had the club and sweet potato waffle fries. Generous portion was full for sure. Nice deck for outside seating. A small place so can fill up quick. Food was good and so was service. Will be back for sure!

I stopped in here for lunch last Monday. I was on my way to the First Colonial area of VB to fix a computer and had an hour to kill, so this was a perfect time to finally stop in at Tubby’s and try out one of these burgers I kept hearing about.
I walked in around 1pm and found a very small yet cozy setup. The bar is on the left and small dining area is on the right. Out the door on the other side of the bar is patio. There were some regulars sitting at the bar working on their buzz. I grabbed a chair and sat down with them. The bartender walked up and introduced himself. I believe he said his name was Justin. I ordered a O’Connor brew from the tap which was served in a little mason jar glass and then glanced at the menu. They have quite a few options, and serve breakfast which caught me by surprise. I thought they were just a bar before seeing that. I placed an order for a ‘Bacon with Cheddar’ burger and then watched a little TV while waiting for my meal.
About 15 minutes later my burger arrived. It was served on a brioche type bun and the portion size was pretty good. I had fries on the side. The burger was good, however the fries tasted like the oil needed to be changed. The meal was certainly filling but a little on the pricey side. The burger/​fries was $ 10 plus the beer and tip, it came out to $ 20. All in all pleasurable experience and I could imagine hanging out here from time to time if I lived closer.

Fist time here. Love that it’s like a whole in the wall place. Small bar maybe seats 6 – 8. About 8 tables/​booths in the main area and a few tables in another area from what I can see. There is outdoor seating.
You seat yourself. Very nice waitress. My friend and I order the pulled chicken sandwich with waffled sweet potatoes and the caramelized onion stuffed burger with lobster Mac and cheese. We were very impressed with both. The burger was juicy and needed nothing extra. The pulled chicken could use extra sauce or a
Side Dish to dip the sandwich in. The waffled sweet potato fries could use something extra. Pretty plain jane. The lobster Mac n cheese? Nothing! Don’t change a Thing! I saw angels and heard harps at the first bite.
Great place to hang with friends when you don’t want a crowded bar type atmosphere. Definitely going again

My fiancé & I wanted to grab lunch at a place we had never been before during VB’s restaurant week. We wanted casual & decided on Tubby’s.
The place was packed around 3:30, looked like most were finishing up their brunch. We grabbed a booth by the window & was greeted by our friendly server, who I believe was also the bartender. We ordered a pair of El Guapos & they were served in mason jars. Cute!
We looked over their special menu for the week & both picked their broccoli and cheddar soup for our first course. It was very creamy with a few chunks of broccoli. The soup was served in iron bowls which also added to their tavern style décor. I ordered the Tubby Burger that came with cheese, sautéed onions, bacon, & their signature sauce. My fiancé ordered their salmon burger, which was a salmon patty with an avocado sauce. I wanted to split our sandwiches, but he hates onions & refused to try any of my burger. Jerk ;-). We both ordered the sweet potato waffle fries, but they only had enough for my dudes plate so I had their regular fries instead.
We both enjoyed our lunches at this cute restaurant & will definitely stop back in the next time we’re in the area for lunch.

Have been meaning to come in for a while. …so glad I did.

Seriously amazing.
Finance loved the Tubby Burger and it came with a ton of fries.
Fun and funky tavern with a friendly staff and late hours. Will be back.
