History

Established in 2007.

After spending over a decade in various design disciplines, Owner and Creative Director Mara Lubell started Works Progress Design with the goal of providing a more comprehensive offering of brand strategy and graphic design services. Since then, Works Progress has helped small mom-​and-​pop shops become global franchises, independent writers become New York Times bestsellers, and numerous other companies and non-​profits achieve untold success. Notable clients include Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, authors Emily Giffin and Nicholas Sparks, Newell Rubbermaid, Sentara Health, and Monarch Bank.

Business Owner

Mara began her career in environmental design at Debra Nichols Design in San Francisco working on such landmarks as the San Francisco Giants stadium (then Pacific Bell Park). From there, she segued to packaging design at The Gap, website design at CNN Interactive, and retail branding and design at The Limited Brands, New York & Company, and Newell Rubbermaid’s Goody Products.

It was these experiences in a variety of design disciplines that gave her the desire to stop focusing on just one area of a brand’s communication and start looking at the bigger picture. So, with an arsenal of skills and an entrepreneurial spirit, Mara started Works Progress Design to become that strategic partner to clients seeking a more comprehensive approach.
