Key Evidence Lock & Safe

My family and I and my mother in-​law were on our way to Auburn for a high school graduation. I packed everything in our new Yakima cargo carrier that sits on top of our suv. Left Thursday night from Southern California and arrived in Tulare for the night. As I was about to unlock the carrier I discovered I left the key to it on the kitchen table at home, I didn’t attach it to the car keys. Real genius. It was about 10:30 pm and I Called all local locksmiths but no one answered or could come. We had to shop for toiletries and pj’s. In the morning I tried again and called another locksmith and he referred me to Key Evidence but said it was further north in Visalia. I said we were heading north so I’d give them a try. If they couldn’t open it then we probably try Sacramento. We arrived and they had just opened and I could see they were real pros. It was a big office with keys and locks everywhere. I saw a team of about 5 guys all working. I was quickly helped. I was referred to the boss and he called another worker and they checked out my lock on the cargo carrier right away. I’d say after studying it they had it unlocked in like 5 minutes. Then they had to make a key. Theses guys were good and fast. The boss charged me a good price, even knocked off a few bucks.
I was very thankful as it wasn’t just a unlocking or making a spare key, he made the rest of the trip enjoyable and everyone was in good spirits. I didn’t have to call or drive around the rest of California looking for help. Real customer oriented.

I came in there today just to get one simple «non-​chipped» key duplicated for my Ford Ranger. The older guy’s exact words were «Not to be a dick, but if it’s anything is under a $ 40.00 purchase I have to charge you a $ 10.00 fee to use your credit card, unless you have cash», then pointed out the same info documented on the table.
Are you kidding me??? A simple two-​dollar duplicate key to be made and I have to put up with that BS??? You’d think they’d give an Army Veteran a break at least!!! Wow!!! I’d use all caps to show how angry I am but Unilocal doesn’t allow it. To Hell with you people!!! I can understand now why it was dead as a doornail there!

Update after the key didn’t work went to of all places visalia lumber and got the same key done for 2.50 instead of 10.00 and it worked. KEY EVIDENCE IS A RIP OFF DON’T GO THERE.

I took a Schlage door key to be copied. It was the door key to my apartment. He said the key was a «high security» key and asked if I had a note from my landlord giving permission to copy it. Let me make it clear that the key has no stamp stating it should not or cannot be copied such as you might find on a key issued by your employer etc. In fact, my landlord actually advised me to have a few extra keys made because if I lost both keys and they had to remake them, it would cost me $ 25. My landlord did not mention anything about needing her permission or a note. So, I had to argue with the guy who only acquiesced because I got a bit rude with him. Strangely, when I went to a locksmith in San Ramon to have a key for my Prius made, I asked to have a key made for my apartment; he did not bat an eye. He made it for free as part of the key reprogramming for my Prius. Weird right? Go figure. But I guess you could argue KEY EVIDENCE was just being careful, but what a pain in the butt for the customer – me! I should not have had to argue to get a key made.

Needed a transponder key, was quoted $ 160 +. Asked if they would cut and program a key purchased online. They said yes, $ 67. I returned a week later with my own key. I was told it would be $ 113 to cut and program the key. I asked how much to just cut the key? I was quoted $ 46! I took the key to another locksmith and had the key cut for under $ 3.00! A transponder key, cut, and programmed at the other locksmith is under $ 90! Not recommended. Will never use or recommend Key Evidence Lock & Safe.

We used them to rekey 5 locks and change the combo to the safe; I called at 5 minutes to five, the gal was very helpful and Frankie arrived at 9am as promised. We needed insurance info faxed and an i9 form also, because we are a business and they were extremely prompt. We were very happy with Frankie’s and their office’s professionalism.

I wish I could give this business zero stars.
Background: My keyless remote for my vehicle has the key integrated with the remote. The small, round plastic part that is used to attach the remote to a keyring broke off. Otherwise the remote worked fine. I therefore just needed a new shell case for my remote, not another brand new remote with the internal components. I purchased a new case online for $ 6 and switched the internal components myself. Took a couple of minutes, no problem.
Services needed: The new keyless remote case has an uncut key and when I switched the internal components it no longer worked and needed reprogramming.
I called Key Evidence on 5÷11÷11 and explained everything above and asked what they charged for the reprogramming and key cut. After I was placed on hold for him to look up my vehicle information, I was told $ 45 for the reprogram and $ 4.95 for the code cut. I also called the local dealership and explained the same thing. I was told $ 55 for the reprogram and $ 18 for the cut. Therefore I went to Key Evidence.
The next day, 5÷12÷11, I arrived at Key Evidence and again explained my situation and presented both my old key case (which was broken), and my new, uncut, unprogrammed key. I also said that I had called the day prior and advised of the prices. The first question I was asked was, «How much did you pay for the new key?» I asked why that mattered for what I was needing done. No reply was given. I was then asked what price I was given when I called. I stated $ 45 for the reprogram and $ 4.95 for the code cut. Comment was, «Well our minimum is $ 65 for the programming.» I stated that if that was the case then I would go to the dealer. «Local dealer?» I was asked. I said yes and advised of the prices I was given when I called the dealer. He then asks me where I got the new case. I replied that I purchased the new case myself. He asks, «Online?» I said yes. He then writes down my vehicle information and took both my old key case and the new key and went to a computer to look up information (not sure what). He leaves and goes into a separate side room and closes the door, with no comment to me about where he’s going or why.
He comes back from the side room and places both of my keys on the counter and says, «Yeah, you’re going to have to go to the dealer.» That’s it, end of story, no explanation.
I will never return to this business.
