History

Established in 1992.

After receiving their licenses in 1991 Dr. Asakura and Dr. Elliott opened Performance Chiropractic Center in Vista, CA in 1992 (Renamed Advanced Spine and Joint Care) and Spine Decompression Center — the Non-​Surgical Spinal Decompression side of the clinic in 2006.

Performance Chiropractic Center has been rated and credentialed as a Level 1 rehab facility by the Chiropractic Rehabilitation Association and the American College of Rehabilitation Science (1997).

The doctors are trained in a new treatment called Functional Medicine; a field of science where a very scientific approach of history taking, laboratory testing, pharmaceutical grade nutrition, diet and lifestyle change is used to help treat and support chronic health conditions when traditional medicine has failed.

Dr. Elliott is certified in non-​surgical spinal decompression technique. This revolutionary procedure uses computerized traction and rehab to treat disc injuries and sciatica and has saved many from back surgery.

Dr. Elliott is a native San Diegan who graduated from Torrey Pines High School in the 1980s. He attended pre-​med after being inspired by a local chiropractor. After pre-​Med, Dr. Elliott attended Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Biology and a Doctorate in Chiropractic-​1991. Dr. Elliott met Dr. Debra Asakura during classes at LACC, and they have been practicing together ever since.

Dr. Asakura a UCLA grad, specializes in gentle chiropractic care and massage that is especially suited for pregnancy, elderly and children. She gets numerous referrals of pregnant woman who need relief from back pain.

Dr. Elliott specialties are in spinal rehabilitation and a new field of medicine called Functional Medicine where chronic health problems are treated using specific lab testing, pharmaceutical grade nutrition, lifestyle changes and diet. Dr. Elliott has received his training from leading expert and best selling author Dr. Datis Kharrazian.

I used to be in unbearable pain in my low back for years. I have seen Dr. Elliott for a free weeks now and already my pain is alleviated! «Dr. Elliot is the man!
Very professional, personable and extremely sophisticated when it comes to his profession. I have been battling consistent back pain and diminished quality of life over the past year and half. I was initially recommended for surgery to address my degenerated disk disease with a bulging disk; sciatica and stenosis. My depression and angst with my condition had me feeling hopeless and frustrated. I have tried as many non-​invasive procedures to help correct my misfortune: Chiro, Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, Physical therapy, and nothing was working to fix my ailment.
I went to Dr. Elliot and he set out a customized plan for my treatment and recovery. I am only halfway through my program and I can honestly tell you that my condition has improved by 60% My back pain has neutralized and has decreased significantly. His treatment and passion works.

Dr is very good, he’s thoughtful and has always taken great care of me. Three year ago, I saw him for my low back pain and my arm was unable to reach above my head. After some great care and instructions, I am now able to reach above my head and stretch from side to side, also don’t have severe back pain anymore! So happy I came to Dr Elliott’s office, plus he’s good looking! Nice staff and great therapy.

During the first week of January 2016 my lower back and left hip were extremely painful when I went to Advance Spine & Joint Care all the staff seemed very knowledgeable about the care being provided and very friendly as well. Dr Elliot put me on a 4 week plan to help me with my back problems using the newest technology available to him. The rehabilitation exercises given to me I can use for the rest of my life to help me stay healthy always, not only did he help with my back pain he gave me tools to a better lifestyle. I have been going to Dr. Elliott for about 5 months and over 40 times already, and counting, for my sciatica and lower back pain. I used to not be able to lean forward at the sink to do dishes for longer than 5 minutes, but ever since I started seeing him, I’ve seen gradual improvement and now my pain episodes are definitely less frequent! I don’t expect my pain would completely go away due to how my spine has been for many years, but the fact that he’s able to improve my situation is something I’m very grateful already.
He is very nice, delightful and funny, and he genuinely cares about his patients. Even more important is that he is skillful, knows what he’s doing with his 25+ years of experience. He’s a chiropractor that you can trust, but you have to listen to him and do all the exercises and follow his recommendations. He’s there to help patients, but the success depends greatly on your diligence to self-​care, as he will show you how. It’s a combination of everything that has improved my condition tremendously.
I found this office through Groupon actually and had always been interested in spinal decompression. The Groupon included a consultation including an X-​ray review, evaluation and 2 computerized spinal decompression treatments. He will ask you what kind of pain you’re experiencing and will do an evaluation and see if further tests are necessary. He tested my strength and flexibility on a table the first day we met, and 2 visits later I had the X-​ray and found out there’s arthritis on my spine. He said the decompression would benefit me so I tried the spinal decompression the same day. It felt a bit weird at first when the table moved apart and stretched your back out, but after a few times I got used to it and was even able to nap during the session!
All the other staff at the office are all very nice including the receptionist Kris and Dr. Asakura who shares the same office. I only had one adjustment from her while Dr. Elliot was out of town. She had a different approach but still gave me a good adjustment.
Another thing I really appreciate is their late hours. Although they are not open during the weekends, they stay open till 7pm every day! It’s perfect for those of us who have office desk jobs to come after a long day of sitting. Also, plenty of spots at the parking lot too!

I have been suffering with neck pain for many years. Doctors have sent me to Physical Therapy but there was never any relief with that treatment.
A Friend recommended Advanced Spine and Joint Care. My Neck pain is gone and I never felt better. I started out a couple times a week until it was under control. I now go twice a month.
Dr. Debra Asakura is my Doctor. But there are two Doctors at this location. Each excellent in their field of expertise. I highly recommend this office for the best treatment and pain management!

I can’t believe it’s been 9 months since my last review. Please see my initial post. I was barely vertical a year ago. Everyday was a struggle. Some days I would just weep, wondering how I would get through the day. Then… I met Dr. Superwoman Asakura!
She is so amazing! I am so blessed to have discovered such a wonderful, caring, healer.
Please know that there is hope for your body. If you are a fence sitter, get off the fence and get healed.
I check in for touch ups and mishaps and it amazes me how she manages to make me feel 110% better!

This is review from the words of my wife. I visited advanced Spine and Joint Care on Friday, September 18. Dr. Asakura promised to send me the diet I had to follow the same day, but never did. I cancelled my next appointment and I’m really upset that a Doctor is lacking honesty and credibility. I would not recommend her as a medical provider, doctor or chiropractor.

When my previous chiropractor sold his business, I found myself needing to find a competent, reasonably priced chiropractor in this area. For anyone who’s tried that, you know it’s a daunting task. After 6 months without chiropractic care, experiencing a lot of pain and discomfort, I found Advanced Spine and Joint Care. I am so glad that I did.
Dr. Elliott has done all but one of my adjustments there. I find him to be very knowledgeable, caring, attentive, and effective. He really knows what he’s doing! He uses some techniques that none of my previous chiropractors have used which help stretch out my muscles and allow my spine to adjust more easily and hold the adjustment longer. He also has me do some easy stretching exercises before he adjusts me. I have noticed a marked improvement in my health, and a lot less pain and discomfort, since I started going there.
Advanced Spine and Joint Care’s non-​insurance rates seem very reasonable to me. I have insurance, but am limited to the number of visits I have per year. Though money is pretty tight for me right now, if I found myself in a position where I absolutely needed to go beyond what my insurance pays for, I feel I could.
I am very grateful for having Dr. Elliott and Dr. Asakura. They have made an appreciable difference in my quality of life. If you are looking for a good, knowledgeable, affordable (and very nice!) chiropractor, I highly recommend them.

I’m so thankful to have found Dr. Elliott! He was been the only docotor to help me with my sciatic pain. His treatments got me back to no pain pills and pain free. So one day I had some sharp pains in my lower back and in my hip as well as my neck. I knew I needed to see a chiropractor pronto but have never been to one before so I was feeling a little apprehensive. So of coursed I Unilocaled and decided to try Advanced Spine and Joint Care because it was close to my job and they welcomed walk-​ins, thank the lord for that. But I did call just because I was going to arrive close to their closing time. Luckily they were able to see me that day. Unfortunately, I had gotten into a car accident about a month or two prior to coming to Dr. Asakura and realized my body had healed improperly from the whiplash. I have been seeing Dr. Asakura for about 3 weeks now and I have found huge improvements in my posture, how my body felt in the morning and throughout the day. She has been very informative with everything she does. She also makes treatments enjoyable with good conversation which makes me look forward to coming in. It has been very convenient to get treated too as they are very flexible with scheduling. I come in for treatments on my lunch breaks! :) All in all it has been a very positive experience.

Great place! I was suffering from a back spasm caused by three days of training on a folding metal chair! I was very worried because in four days I was going to need to sit for five hours on an airplane. A colleague with me suggested I make an appointment. I called during the day gave Pia my insurance information. She called back within 15 minutes with approval and an appointment time. Dr. Elliott suggested a course of action. Within three treatments I no longer had spasms. I’ve been many times, each time the staff either gets me in for Dr. Elliott or on the STEM table within minutes. They respect your time. My colleague originally suggested I see Dr. Asakura, she thinks she is fabulous.

I am very pleased with the service and care I have received with Dr. Elliot. Having severe pain from a fractured pelvis and horrible alignment, Dr Elliot provided me with an x-​ray, weekly adjustments, and therapeutic exercises to fix years of damage. I have been going to Dr. Elliott for several years now and he has treated me for everything from TMJ to back injuries sustained in a car accident. His treatment has been the only thing that has helped my TMJ and I tried a lot of remedies. He has also treated my dad for his disintegrating disc. Ever since he completed his treatments he has not had anymore trouble with his back. He has also treated my mom, my brother, my sister and my 95 year old Grandmother! I went to see Mark for plantar fasciitis. My condition wasn’t improving with many months of icing, stretching, exercising, and wearing certain orthotics. When I first met Mark, he told me what was wrong and what was his treatment, including wearing a different type of orthotics that were customized to my feet.
I decided to try his treatment of laser, adjustment, massages, and wearing his recommended orthotics.
Within two weeks, I was feeling better. I didn’t received my customized orthotics yet because they were being made. I thought I was healed enough to resume my running. I was wrong. I tweeked my feet again.
I thought I was back to square one. That was not the case. I continued my treatment, and received my orthotics. Within a week, my conditions have improved where I notice a considerable amount of difference. I have responded greatly with the treatments. I like to mention that not once did I ice, stretch, or did any of the previous exercises while being treated by Dr. Elliot.
If you have plantar fasciitis, this is the place to go. You will have to try the «jack hammer». After that treatment, you will feel like you are walking on air.
I also started treatment for my sleep apnea with Mark. The first night sleep after the treatment; I had my first vivid dream in a long time. Vivid dreams indicate a deep sleep which good R.E.M., which is a good nights rest.
If nothing else, his treatment will make you feel better for that day.
Last thing, great and friendly medical staff. Very helpful. They helped me pick out my orthotics. I have no complaints.

I love this chiropractic clinic! Dr. Elliot is an excellent chiropractor who knows his stuff.
I came in with a severe low back injury, and through all of the steps of treatment and conditioning, I am doing much better and am on the mend. I tried a different clinic before, but they were not able to help me the way Dr. Elliot did with the decompression and other therapy.
The staff is extremely nice, and they help work on all of your ailments. Plus, they charge much less than other treatment centers. All in all, a great place.
