I purchased two complete AC systems for my two homes in SoCal spending over $ 12K a year and a half ago. One unit was installed and has worked without any issues, the second unit has had four service calls and still does not work.
During all four service calls the technician never had the key needed to unlock the refrigeration valves and so they always wasted 30 minutes driving to the local AC supply shop to get the proper key.
The first service call was for a condenser fan that burned out, and it took a week to obtain a new fan and replace the burned out one. This was within 3 weeks of system installation, so all covered by warranty.
The second service call, the fault was root caused to the TXV valve failing, again it took a week to get the replacement part installed. This was within 2 months of system installation, so all covered by warranty.
The third service call, the heater was not working because tech #2 left the gas valve in the shut off position when he repaired the AC unit. This was within 7 months of system installation, so all covered by warranty.
The fourth service call, the tech stated that the system had lost coolant and he stated my options where to re-​fill the system with coolant for $ 300 or perform a leak detection for a cost of $ 2K. This was a year and three months later and so I had to pay the $ 300 out of pocket.
Now a month later, the system is once again not cooling and so the installation of this unit was not correctly done. At this stage, I refuse to continue giving money to this company which to me is incapable of installing and properly repairing this AC unit. If you purchase from this company, I would strongly suggest paying whatever it takes to get an extended warranty since it looks like you can’t rely on them performing a good system installation.

I called Southcoast because I had an issue with my AC as it was not blowing cold air anymore. The staff was pleasant when I called in and since it was during a heatwave they told me they could not be out until the next day which I understood because it was 95 degrees outside. The service tech Steven showed up on time and got straight to work and quickly found out that I had a leak. He was able to locate and repair the leak that same day. Will definitely be calling them back out.

Lou came out on time and solved my problem quickly and efficiently. I will definitely use them in the future.

If you listen to the recording while waiting on the phone for them, you’d think customer service is their first priority. IT ISN’T! It isn’t easy to schedule an appointment, the tech didn’t have the part we needed… luckily the buyer of the home had brought one with him… Then after three days of calling and begging for the repair estimate, the tech went on vacation and the service rep who answered the phone, didn’t know where to find a part and really didn’t care.
This is a referral business and I wouldn’t refer them to anyone if they were the last number in the phone book.

No show and no call. I was given a service window and they did not bother to show or call; hard to believe any company would blow off business in this economy. So I’m out two hours of work and will have to wait out the weekend with a malfunctioning AC unit (installed by South Coast). I will not use again.

Hired South Coast Heating to replace the A/​C and Heater units in my home. Big mistake. They said it would take 3 days to do the work ended up taking 2 weeks. First system that they installed did not work. Took countless phone calls and days home from work for them to finally get it working. In total I estimate it was 3 months start to finish. I am certain that if I had not been so persistent it never would have worked. I ended up paying another contractor to come look at the work and tell me what was wrong so I could make them fix it. Such a frustrating experience. Save yourself the headache.

I called these folks last summer to make a repair call on the air conditioning unit in my condo, which was just blowing warm air. They charge a minimum $ 100 for a service call, which I thought was pretty steep, but I agreed to it.
The initial experience was pretty good. They were able to schedule an appointment for the day after I called. The window was from 9am-​12am, and the repairman (Tony) showed up around 9:30am. He seemed very knowledgeable and after only a few minutes eliminated my thermostat as a possible cause of my AC problems.
He said that he needed access to the roof to look at the actual air conditioning unit. Now I’m pretty ignorant about air conditioniong units, so I had no idea that he was going to possibly need access to the roof, and even though I told them on the phone a number of times that I lived in a condo complex, they never informed me that this was a possibility. Unfortunately, they happened to show up on the one day a month that the community manager, who could give access to the roof, was in a meeting at their home office.
That’s when things started to go downhill. Tony was going to charge me for the service visit anyway. I was okay with that part, since he did make the trip over. However, he kept rambling on about how he was doing me a favor by not charging me for more than an hour because he had already spent over an hour on this call due to driving time, looking for a parking spot, etc.
Excuse me? How is it my fault that your last service call was in Oceanside and it took you 30 minutes to get to my house? I’ve never heard of any repair service that charges customers for driving time. Don’t threaten to charge me because of your company’s inefficiency.
Fortunately, the community manager unexpectedly showed up to the building as the repairman was leaving, and the guy was able to get to the roof and make the quick repair. I’ll give them credit for fixing my AC problem, but watch out if you hire them that they don’t try to charge you too much for the service visit. Driving time SHOULD NOT COUNT!

$ 100 bucks an hour for supposedly professional HVAC service. The guy they sent totally gypped us, didn’t even do the work he said he did; calling their office was chaos, they didn’t follow up or fix it or refund us a cent. Never again.
