1424 is a small, privately-​owned restaurant in downtown Waco, Texas, offering freshly made dishes and desserts in a pleasant and casual setting.

In the kitchen of 1424, we use only pure, fresh ingredients: olive oil, cream, butter, fruits, vegetables, meats, and seafood. We believe that you will taste the difference.

History

Established in 2003.

1424. What a name for a place of business! When people, who don’t know about our restaurant, are told the name of the restaurant – they usually ask for the name to be repeated.

But there is a story behind that name.

When Bob O’Farrell (previous owner) was trying to name this restaurant, he couldn’t think of a name and no one else could offer any suitable suggestions. Being a bit perplexed, Bob looked out over the rustic antique door to the street number 1424. These letters just beamed out, and so 1424 was born. So on October 2003, 1424 began and has been in operation ever since. In July 2007, the ownership of 1424 was changed over to Aris Galanis. Aris dedicated himself to bringing 1424’s customers the same great cuisine they had always enjoyed. New specials have also been added from lamb shanks to étouffée. Aris is committed to serving only the best by adding fresh seafood to the menu, a full bar and lunch menu.

Business Owner

As the owner of 1424 Bistro, with over thirty years working in the food business, I can say that all of my past experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Rhodes, Greece and lived there until I attended college in the USA.

Early on I began my life experiences working in the family’s restaurant in the Castle of Rhodes. Even then economic struggles sent me off to working in the island’s governmental slaughter house. So early on, my skills in the restaurant business and processing meat helped shape my career path.
