Decent is the best I can say about Hannara. We stopped here after talking to a local couple at a different restaurant about which is their fav place. They recommended Hannara… Sadly, this is about the worst place we’ve eaten at in Waianae. And we’ve eaten at many a westside restaurant since we’re up there at least twice a month… The atmosphere/interior is worse than Dennys. Service was slow. Food prices were decent but more than most other places in Waianae. Food was okay but nothing to get excited about. The worst disappointment, for me, was the bathrooms and lack of soap. Okay, it happens sometimes. So, I snuck into the women’s room to get some soap to wash my hands. None there either. So, I went up to the cashier and told the guy there that BOTH bathrooms had no soap. Before leaving I went back to the bathroom to wash my hands(this was 20 – 30 minutes later). Still no soap. Paid the bill and told the same guy, «Still no soap in the bathrooms». His reply, «Oh, I brought toilet paper.» Umm, TP doesn’t replace soap. Sure hope the workers have their own toilets and soap or you all know that employees are working with disgustingly unsanitary hands! Never going there again.

Came here couple times. First time I ordered the hamburger steak since that’s what they are known for. But after couple bites, I can’t say I would go there again just for that. I’ve had better hamburger stake dishes. Even though it says best in the west side. I would consider mines the best. Even though I can’t really rate my owns. But it would be high up there!!! I’ve been known to cook some killer tasting foods! Lol… Other than that, the food there is ok. I pretty much tried a variety of their dishes from breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s not bad and it’s not the best. But it’s eatable. Try it out and let me know if you got a favorite dish there. Cuz I still haven’t found mines.

ATMOSPHERE: Mom and pop, diner-like, stop! There was lots of seating and even counter seating. But definitely had that old, mom and pop shop feeling. SERVICE: Was pretty crappy. Not going to lie. We were not immediately greeted, in fact, no one even acknowledged us. The nicest thing they did for us the entire time was when they offered to seat us on a table that hadn’t been cleared, rather than the counter. After that, the service pretty much went downhill. They didn’t bus our tables until 10 minutes passed by and they took, what felt like, 30 minutes to finally take our order. And then we drank all of our water and sat completely dry for the remainder of our meal. We had to flag down our server to get the check. FOOD: Was okay. Definitely had better. The Kalua was super salty… I can’t remember the exact meal I got, but I got the plate that comes with poi(or rice), kalua, lau lau, sweet potato, and haupia. The lau lau was good, my favorite is the kalo leaves, which it definitely wasn’t lacking! But it also didn’t have much taste… Needed to add Hawaiian salt or shoyu to add taste. The haupia was good. OVERALL: I was pretty disappointed. From the service to the food, I wasn’t a big fan and am not sure whether I’ll ever go back or not.

I use to enjoy eating here but not anymore the food has no taste and it seems like the prices went up, I order a Hanaras special with a side order of bacon which goes about $ 11.00 but when I pay my bill it was $ 16.02 I’m thinking because they have a new owner. Really sad.

It was a Friday afternoon on my day off from work that I was craving to eat some Hawaiian food. I was debating on where to go to eat Hawaiian food. Should I go to Hannara Restaurant in Waianae or head on over to one of the restaurants in Maili. I had decided to step foot into Hannara Restaurant. I opted to sit at the counter. I was greeted by one of the waitresses and was given the menu. As I looked over the options for the Hawaiian food I had asked the waitress if it was possible to have the tripe stew in place of the beef stew. I also asked if I could have the poi instead of the rice. Both options were available for the Hawaiian combo. I received my Hawaiian combo of poi, tripe stew, lomi salmon, kalua pig, onions, and laulau. Everything was delicious. I wished there was a bit more lomi salmon though. The laulau was on the small side yet it was still filling with the rest of the food. While enjoying my meal at the counter I took notice on how busy the kitchen workers and waitresses were in getting the patrons meals out in a timely matter. Waitress was so busy that she forgot to check up on me. It took another employee to ask me if everything was okay. It’s been awhile since I stepped foot into Hannara Restaurant… at least I know that the food would settle my craving for Hawaiian food. 69⁄200

A nice«hole in the wall» establishment on the west side of Oahu. Whenever I do find myself in the the area after a long hike, I make it a point to come here. First off the food. It’s standard fare, ranging from American to Korean style offerings. I usually get their hamburger steak, which they tout as being«the best on the west side.» I must say, it’s damn good. But it’s not something you should go out of your way for. Parking is plentiful, do it’s certainly not an issue. They do accept debit/credit cards with at $ 10 minimum purchase. Service can be iffy at times. One time, I decided to sit down at a booth by myself and was asked if I wanted to sit anywhere else. It wasn’t like the restaurant was hurting for table space at the time. It kinda irked me, but I begrudgingly complied. Other than that, it’s a solid establishment with good food if you don’t want to go to a typical fast food joint in Waianae.

My go-to place for banana pancakes! They usually drop a scoopful of margarine stuff(not real butter) on the cakes so I always ask them to skip that part. Although I don’t eat hamburger steak anymore, this place has one if the best I’ve tasted. Their Famous Hannara’s omelet is the bomb. Saimins are ok. I ordered once and never ordered again. But for banana pancakes, this is the place! Seat yourself and get your bill/pay at cashier.

I love family style diners! This place is decently priced and great for families. They serve American, Breakfast, Local and Korean dishes here. I ordered the Club house sandwich with fries here. The club house sandwich was bit different because it had bologne inside along with bacon, lettuce and tomato. It was pretty good! Service is good here too and friendly staff! I want to try their Hamburger steak next time because that is what they are known for!

This place was Ono! Great selection and kind service. We ordered a bunch of different things. From the chicken katsu, burgers and the yummy coconut pancakes with Portuguese sausage. Everything was fast, fresh and hot! You can tell this is a local spot and has been around a while. Will definitely be back

BESTPANCAKESANYWHERE. Whenever we go to a restaurant, we always compare the pancakes to Hannaras because it just doesn’t get any better. Always soft & moist. They don’t get 5 stars because we don’t always get the best service. They are always crowded, but I guess because people love it there!

Hawaiian? Korean? American? Yep, this place has them all! Holy menu choices! Located across of the Waianae mall, Hannara’s is a staple in the westside community. Hungry but unsure of what you’re hungry for or craving everything… this is where your stomach will lead you. Walking into the restaurant, you notice the diner set up and feel. They have diner seating and as well as tables. Seat yourself where ever you see a clean table. The menu consists of Hawaiian, Korean, American and breakfast foods. I have yet to try the Hawaiian food as I don’t prefer that type of cuisine. I know, what kind of kanaka am I?! The food flavor here is okay, not bad but nothing that truly stands out either. The service here is pretty bad. The waitress brings the menu, takes your order, delivers your food and good luck getting her back to your table or getting water refill, napkins or condiments. Need help, wave down any waitress or you will be left waiting… awhile. During my last visit I had the Denver omelette and my company had the roast pork. They brought the roast pork out well ahead of my omelette. My date did not like that, his thing was that our food is brought together. It didn’t really bother me. What did bother me was that his roast pork looked dry even with all that gravy. My omelette came about 7 minutes later. The omelette was meh. As I had thought the roast pork was very dry. When we were done, my date asked when the waitress was going to bring the bill. I had totally forgot about the process of paying. I had informed him that we had to go to the cashier and tell them what we ate, they would find our ticket from there. Old school diner style to say the least. I must admit the Korean food is good. I also enjoyed the hamburger steak. Breakfast hasn’t been what I had expected. I’d still come back, at least I’d know what to expect. Goal is to try out the whole menu, I’m hopeful I’d find something to rave about.

Good local food. They give lots in the take out order. Place as busy but the take out was even busier. The place had the old school restaurant feel. We ordered different kinds of bento box. And those bestest hamburger steak with gravy. I don’t think they do but its good. It tasted like meat loaf in a hamburger shape. The meat jun was pretty good soft and tastes. The Kimchi was eeeh I so had better. The chicken Teri was good, soft and moist. The breaded shrimp… Yuck not good. So had better. The tarter sauce didn’t help it. Pipikaula was a little on the tuff side. Lau Lau was already had better. Parking is shared by other stores in a plaza corner bottom floor.

Four stars because I love local foods and this is one of the best places to get some. Food 4⁄5 Portions sizes are good and the food taste great too. I bring my two year daughter here to have lunch or a late breakfast and it usually gets packed but not so much on weekdays seeing how everyone’s working lol. I enjoy being able to order from the breakfast/lunch/dinner menu at anytime because sometimes I want spam eggs and rice for dinner lol. Overall the food satisfies for the price. Service 4⁄5 the waitress that served us was awesome, nice, friendly and prompt as workers should be but there was an employee behind the counter who looked distant and sort of «meh». You know, those kind that don’t pay attention to you on purpose and go on doing whatever they are doing, so you’re kind of waiting at the counter uncomfortably to pay the bill, not sure if you should say something or wait for them to notice you(even though you’re sure they have). That aura. Yeah awkward– work on that. Setting 3⁄5 Everything needs to be updated and thoroughly cleaned. Only reason it’s a 3⁄5 is because of the nostalgia factor. I came here a lot when I was little, and it’s basically exactly the same yearrrrrs later. But oh well. Notes: go ahead and seat yourselves. Sometimes people walk in and stand around waiting to be seated by a waitress, without noticing the seat yourself sign off to the side. Wait can be long depending how busy the place is, heck sometimes the wait it long even if the place isn’t busy but it’s too inconsistent to tell.

«Absence makes the heart grow fonder» Because I no longer work in Kapolei, getting to Waianae is a lot tougher because I live in east Honolulu. Opportunities to go to favorite west Oahu eateries become a rarity. And the one place I miss above all others in Waianae is Hannara restaurant. Hannara restaurant has been a fixture in Waianae for many decades. They started as a very small, mostly take out place on the makai side of Farrington Hwy. An opportunity arose and Sam, the owner, moved the mostly drive in style grinds to a larger space on the mauka side of Farrington– offering a more dining-in option for the community. A few years later, Sam relocated the restaurant to it’s present location close to Waianae Mall offering even more dining space for hungry patrons. Ok, enough with the history lesson, so how’s da grub? Having had their grinds at all three locations I can say the food is still great. They are noted for their Hamburger Steak, pancakes, Hawaiian and beef stew plates. I have seen patrons order Hawaiian plates with pancakes on da side– now what does that tell you? Mmmm… I am especially fond of their beef stew plate– the beef chunks are soft, tender and very flavorful. The beef stew gravy has just the right consistency, not too watery. You know the kind of sauce that really goes well with rice– mmmm. They are sometimes on the fatty side but it’s easy to separate the fat from the ono beef. Their portions are fairly generous and you can get Korean veggies on the side for a nominal fee. Their eclectic offerings of Local, Hawaiian and Korean favorites belay the fact that the original owner was Korean. The Korean side veggies are a perfect compliment to any of the offerings, except maybe for breakfast. The Hawaiian plate competes well with offerings at restaurants around Oahu but in Waianae they offer one of the best in the neighborhood. Whenever I am in striking distance of Hannara I always go for their beef stew. Whenever I had appointments in Waianae I would make sure to schedule so that I could make a run to Hannara for lunch. I love their beef stew so much that I have on occasion in the past brought a pot for them to fill up several servings so my family can enjoy this west Oahu treat. Their Hawaiian plate with kalua pig, Lau Lau, beef stew and poi with a side of Korean veggies really hits the spot. If you are down West Oahu way, give Hannara a try– no regrets, guarans you’ll find something you’ll like, maybe da beef stew :)

The reason why Hannara’s earns a two star review from me is because of the state of the restaurant, everything is dirty from the floors to the ceiling and the booths and the tables, it looks like no real cleaning is ever done here, this is especially apparent if you look at the pipes leading into the air conditioning units.. .even the store front windows are gross. I went to the bathroom and I guess this is a place where people discover that wet toilet paper can stick to objects because there are no less than 30 balls of mushed up toilet paper on the ceiling, and that wasn’t just one day with a few kids messing with them, some of those layers looked old. The bathroom in and of itself is disgusting and to top it all off while I was in there the wait staff left a rolling dish cart in front of the saloon style doors that let you out and I couldn’t open them to leave the hallway! I had to force the door open and shove the cart out of the way. The ONLY reason why I didn’t one star Hannara Restaurant is because their food is actually pretty good, not the best but I’ve had worse, and their pancakes are amazing. The prices are good for what you get too. To sum it up.. .the employees here need to show some initiative to step up and deep clean the space or the owners need to put their foot down and say«HEY! You guys need to CLEAN!» Due to the cleanliness of the dining space and the bathroom I have no idea how Hannara Restaurant is flying a green health inspection«Pass» card, hopefully that means that the back of the house is much cleaner than the front of the house. As it stands right now I would not return to this business.

This place has been here FOREVER. I even had the conversation of when I was first here. I was in the 6th grade and my basketball coach, who was my friend(also played on the team), took us out to breakfast because no one could pick me up/drop me off(one or the other, I forgot) before/after the game to Hannaras. Pretty much the more diverse version of Zippys in Waianae. Btw there is NO Zippys in Waianae. This needs to change! They have a very well diverse menu. They have American food, Korean and Hawaiian. I’m surprised they don’t serve sushi! When you get there you seat yourself. A waitress, I’ve only noticed women were the waitresses will you give your menu, take your drink order then will come back in a few to take your order. I finally came here knowing what I wanted it was Hawaiian food. Kalua pork #win my friend got the laulau plate, also another #win. The food came out pretty quick. Now I didn’t taste the laulau but my kalua pork was alright. It wasn’t one of the better ones I’ve had and one of the better ones were made at a friend’s family party with homemade laulau and squid luau. omg. mouthwater* My friend and I were having such great conversation that the whole time the waiter didn’t check on us at all. But the thing about this place is, don’t wait for the waiter to give you your check either. I’ve been here a few times before with friends who’ve come here often and I’ve learned that you just go up to the cashier and tell them the number of your table which can be found on the side of the table. I think it’s time for Hannaras to make some improvements because I know this place has been in Waianae for a very long time and it is a classic to this town.
