History
Established in 2005.
For 20 years, the Baird family farm produced it’s own lumber for rebuilding civil war era buildings on the land. In 2005, the Bairds started TreeHugger Forestry and began processing the wood into tongue & groove flooring and moulding for sell to the public. TreeHugger Forestry uses environmentally sensitive methods for harvesting and processing the wood. This low volume approach to forestry means the Bairds only take dead, down and dying trees — the worst first is their motto. They then use low impact harvesting utilizing only a ATV and fetching arch to pull the trees to their mill. Once milled, they air dry the lumber and then do the finish drying in a solar kiln they built in 1996. Once the wood is dried to between 6−8% moisture content, the lumber is ready to be processed into finished pieces and sold to the public.
