Laht Neppur

We went by for a cold one after a long drive from Seattle and found this local favorite closed. As in permanently. The main brewery is still open in Waitsburg.

I really, really want to like this place. It’s finally open with regular hours (it’s taken a few years to get rid of the open until closed sign) and they have a beer wall with takeaway bottled beers.
Every so often, they’ll have good beers on the bottle list so it keeps us coming back in to check. Usually, they have things easily available at other local stores or they are heavy in Porters and Stouts. Like them a lot too but when the buyers/​managers prefer that and aren’t into hops, it’s hard to believe in a place as a «craft beer» hot spot with not a lot of great diversity.
As for the taps, again, they’ve switched to having guest taps in addition to their own. I’m not a huge fan of their beers but the option to have the other beers is a draw. Unfortunately, when we come in, there are always 3 – 5 guest taps with nothing on them. When I ask, they tell me they ran out of their beer budget for the week. If you’ve sold the beer, then how is it that you ran out of your budget? You’re a beer bar with a focus on beer. They sell a few food items, but it’s only as an addition to the beer. So beer is from where the sales come. The same thing happens with the beer wall. They get a rush and people buy something out and they act surprised but don’t re-​stock.
This week’s reasoning for the lack of taps is because they spent their money on the beer wall. As in any business, capturing the business while the person is there is most important. If you hook them then and there, they’re more willing to purchase more items.
Also, while the people are friendly who work here, they aren’t the best at service. We sat here with empty beers and she came by and asked if we’d like another. I said not quite yet but I will. Over 30 minutes later, she came back to ask and by then we decided to leave. There are never more than 10 people and most are sitting at the bar. Tonight, 5 people were at the bar and she barely left and simply chatted them up.
We (my g/​f and I) are really big beer fans. We like to try everything. We’ve told them if they simply keep the taps full, we’ll come in at least once a week, with probably 2−3x being the norm. Instead, they continually talk about not having the budget to fill all the taps or the bottles which sold out. How do you expect people to come in if everything is sold out or unavailable?
We really really want to support this establishment but until they can figure out how to keep things in stock (imagine your local pub/​bar running out of their main items?) we’ll be searching for other locations and hoping for another beer place to pop up and simply visit here every few weeks. The bar right around the corner has only 4 taps but if we head in there 1 – 2 times in a week, there is a chance the two middle taps have switched out to something new.
(As an FYI, we bought 4 beers from their bottle selection. All were new. These are the first real «new» ones they’ve had in months. We’ll keep buying if they keep offering!)

Every time I come back to Walla Walla from Portland, I can’t believe this place is just not packed full. You could spend a weekend at Portland breweries and not find beers as good as the ones at Laht Neppur. People should realize how lucky they are to have a great brewery in Walla Walla. Laht has one of the smoothest IPAs and Porter there is. This place is fantastic and if you get sick of wine tasting, you should stop in and try their sampler platter of some of the best beers in NW. This place gives me a reason to keep visiting Walla Walla.

So, I’m a bit of a beer nerd. And after much consideration, I want to declare this place the best beer destination in Walla Walla.
Now, I can only speak to the beer here, but I really appreciate it.
First of all, it’s all their own stuff. They brew it up in Waitsburg, and sell it at the brewery and this place. There are 8 – 10 of their own beers on draught, which is pretty decent for a brewpub. Now, you won’t like every beer they make (no one does), but they have some really excellent options. My personal favorite is their oatmeal porter, and my wife likes the peach hefeweizen. But if you can’t find something you like, you don’t like beer.
Yeah, I’ll say that.
The folks behind the bar definitely know their stuff. My experiences were that it was the brewer and his wife. Able to answer any questions I had about their beer (and I had quite a few), and really knew their stuff.
One awesome thing they do that’s atypical is selling their own singles. You can actually grab some of their bottles to go. Their stuff is a little hard to find in beer shops, so this is a nice way to try some of their stuff at home.
My one real complaint is that they don’t have a very extensive menu. Ideally, I’d like some more appetizer options, but the food isn’t why I would come here.
Final verdict? Next time I’m in Walla Walla, I’ll be back. And I’ll probably be bringing people.

The bar tender was fabulously friendly and welcoming. The beer was dreadful. She gave us a sample of 3, all of which we didn’t like, so out of guilt we ordered the IPA because she raved about how great it was. We couldn’t even finish it. The place is a true college bar, complete with indoor picnic tables and pitchers. At 8 on a Friday night it was us and two adults with four young adults. I guess even the college kids know the beer is bad.

Such a nice, small town place… and I don’t even like beer! They have sodas for us non-​beer drinkers, including a delicious home made root beer (non-​alcoholic). They have a varied pizza and sandwich menu. We had the pulled pork and WW sweet onion, it was yummy.

This place just annoyed me. They try to have a cool dive bar feel, and they are not pulling it off. It reminded me of a dark unfinished church basement. We tried the beer — disappointing. Not horrible, but nothing great. And the name is annoying too… apparently it’s an anagram of the owner’s last name, which is not that clever and hard to pronounce. What do you expect when you go to a brewery in wine country…

Whenever I head to a place I’ve never been I always look for where I am going to find some local brew. Only 2 places came up for Walla Walla and one had some really bad reviews. Didn’t need to waste my time on that place so Sue and I headed over here for a pre-​movie beer.
We weren’t here very long. The place was pretty empty early on a Saturday evening. We each ordered a pint. I had the Stout and she had the Porter. I should say I ended up having them both, or at least most of the second beer as Sue wasn’t feeling well. I have to say I enjoyed the Stout more than the Oatmeal Porter.
The space is pretty big. Picnic tables dominate the middle part with tables on the outside. Small bar area that seats maybe 8 or so. Nothing particularly amazing about the setting. They don’t brew the beer here. That happens around 16 or so miles away.

Great atmosphere. Laid back place where you can toss your peanut shells on the floor, watch football and drink some good beer.
Today we went to Laht Neppur to watch the Civil War game between University of Oregon and Oregon State. They are one of the few establishments in town that have the PAC12 network in town, so football fans take notice. This is a brew pub; picnic tables and pub like menu. Pizza, mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers, etc. The pizza looked very good, but we only ordered the Poppers. They were very good and seemed homemade. We also ordered the Beer sampler which was very fun. The sampler came with 10 samples. Our favorites were the Wit, Blonde Ale and Winter Warmer. We received good service from our server and she was very friendly. Even though we were outnumbered (we are Beaver fans and there were mostly Duck fans in the joint) it still had a great energy and vibe. Ducks won, but I still left happy and thinking… what a fun day.

The main reason I’m giving five stars is because I had a great time here. There were only two other customers at the bar when I walked in. But I struck up a conversation with one of the guys and we chit-​chatted for a couple hours on everything from politics, racism in America, and family. I was fresh into town for a work project and was just looking for a little food and good beer. I downed three glasses of superb Autumn Amber and had a pulled pork sandwich. The sandwich was sort of meh but the beer was excellent. The bartender was very nice. Last call was 9 pm and I walked back to my hotel. Looking forward to coming back and trying out some other brews.

Definitely the better of the two microbreweries in Walla Walla. Well, technically, their brewery is in Waitsburg, but this is their taphouse/​pizza shop. The pizza is pretty good, and a good deal, given the size. The beer is tasty, and occasionally they have live music, which has never been disappointing. On their menu under «Wine», it just says «Yep.»

Great beer selection! I even took my mom’s Carona-​drinking pal along and she even found a few that she liked! The sampler is reasonably priced and enough variety to satisfy any fancy-​beer connoisseur.
The pizza is what brought my rating down a bit. A bit undercooked, but much better reheated in the oven the next day! Interesting décor/​ambiance and tasty beer, but not much else.

I love the Nut Brown Ale, and usually like the seasonals they have on tap. Peanut shells on the floor is fun, but the plastic picnic tables could be upgraded. Also haven’t had the best luck with efficient service. Great pizza!

on our tour of walla walla we happened upon this place, we got a taster tray and some pints after. this beer could rival any in portland… there I said it. Two portlanders were wowed by their beer. delicious.

Great brew

Awesome little pub with 8 of their beers on tap. I was in town for two nights and stumbled across it the first. Got a Mason jar to take back to the hotel for $ 7 and brought it back the next night for a $ 6 refill. The IPA was good, also tried the porter, brown and stout. Took a taste of the strawberry cream but it’s just not my thing. Next time I’m in town hope to check it out on a night with more than two other patrons!

This place is great! All their own beer from the brewery in Waitsburg. They make nice big pizzas with many choices of toppings. Ask about the seasonal brews, you won’t be disappointed!
