the smoked ribs didn’t have any flavor whatsoever. they just pour on the bbq when serving the ribs. bbq taste good but ribs themselves had no flavor whatsoever and that is more important then the bbq in my opinion. will never eat there again.

We went on Sunday at around 4:30. We got a 3 meat platter(pork, brisket and ribs) and some sides. Cost $ 30.00. The portions of meat were all generous for the price. All 3 were very good, tender and moist. My favorite thing here is they use rub and smoke to showcase the food … bbq sauce is used to enhance, not drown. That with the good quality well prepared meats makes me a huge fan already. Unfortunately we had some problems with our sides. The chili was terrible. It was dry and looked and tasted like it had spent too much time sitting in a steam table. The mac and cheese we were really looking forward to also fell flat .It also was on the dry side and if there was any bacon or pork, we couldn’t taste or see it. The beans were spot on and shouldn’t missed !! At 4 dollars for a med sized side order, all the sides should strive to be as good as those beans. We gave 4 stars based on the incredible meats and beans. We will go back soon(very soon) to try a few more menu items and revisit the chili and mac and cheese. I listed the day and time because I think that contributed to all the sides not being at their best.

Ribs were amazing, pulled pork was also delicious the smoked chicken(shredded) wasn’t as good as the pork, but definitely not bad. Our family loved the cornbread and their sauces. The Mac and Cheese was also a hit at our table. Staff was very friendly. We will be back.

First of all, I love BBQ. Which to me, is hard to mess up. Pig Rig is just great BBQ! The pulled pork is always moist. Their cowboy beans are out of this world. Their carolina sauce has the right balance of mustard and vinegar. It is a little hidden from the main road, but it is worth the drive.

Stopped here on our way to Wilton, totally worth the stop! Had the Carolina pulled pork, BBQ combo and the smoked chicken sandwich — all were delicious! Cowboy beans and Mac n Cheese must have sides. Owner super friendly — definitely will be back

Wow. What a great owner(he is a character — in a good way!!) and great service. This is a small place, but wonderful atmosphere. I am from the South and this is the best BBQ I have had in CT. The smoke flavor is awesome and the sides are fabulous especially the beans. The pork and ribs were out of this world and melt in your mouth. This is definately a place to stop and have some great BBQ.

Excellent food and friendly people. Price is right. Not much of a dine in atmosphere and would like to see some more drink choices other than canned soda and lemonade. Cornbread is A+ and my chicken sandwich was tender. I got the potato salad for a side and it was just OK. Looking forward to trying some ribs for the next visit. Sounds like they may bump it up to 5 stars :-)

It’s a smaller bbq place with great food. Atmosphere is quient and simple– nothing fancy. They have a few tables. Food is hot, quick, and delicious. The staff is very nice. There’s a table with variety of sauces to try.

Tried Pig Rig for the first this evening drove a way(30 miles) to sample… I ordered dinners with brisket, chicken, ribs, BBQ beans, Mac and cheese and cornbread. The BBQ beans were 4 star… Mac & cheese — 3.5 star Brisket — 4 star… chicken — 3 star… pork ribs — 5 star … Cornbread — can’t rate it cause it wasn’t cornbread… some type of cornbread shaped imposter that tastes like lemon-vanilla muffin. My dogs enjoyed it. I would go back for the ribs, beans, Mac & cheese… hopefully next time the cornbread will be the real stuff. Can’t go BBQ without cornbread. The staff was very friendly and professional.

Tried this place for the first time today and really loved it! The people who own it are very friendly and welcoming. I suggest the 3 meat platter so you can try more things. Ordered the chicken, pulled pork, and ribs with a side of Mac and cheese. Everything was melt in your mouth amazingness. Make sure to grab a bunch of sauces for dipping. Loved adding the buffalo sauce to the max and cheese!

Stopped by here on our way to Nova Scotia, what an amazing find! I got the 3 piece rib combo with a side of Mac and cheese and corn bread. The ribs were fantastic! Literally no effort to get it off the bone, so tender and smoky. And the sauce was just right! The owner came out and spoke with us, he even gave us a free cup of his beans to try. Delicious, I really liked the little pieces of brisket that were mixed in and this means a lot coming from a girl who doesn’t normally do beans. There’s nothing I enjoy more than great BBQ and an owner who you can clearly tell takes pride in what he does. I will definitely be back if we’re in the area again. Oh, and shout out to the kid who took our order, you did a wonderful job. Very professional!

Fantastic food. The restaurant itself is in the corner of a strip mall so you wouldn’t expect incredible food but that’s exactly what it is. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was smokey and delicious. You have to try the Mac and cheese and baked beans as well. The BBQ ribs were delicious as well. The owner was also there and was super friendly. Would highly recommend and definitely return if we are in the area.

There are a good number of places in Wallingford that make me happy I live here and this place is one of them. This is CT, so bbq is hard to come by, but the pig rig does it right. Every so often the craving climbs and I have to get some of that delicious smoked meat. I’ve had a couple of the sandwiches, but the pig in the mud is my favorite along with a side of the mac and cheese. One of my favorite things on the menu is the option to add a rib for $ 2. Yup. That happens with every meal I get. The portion sizes are generous so you’ll have plenty and be full. I just wish I had a time machine so when I’m done eating I could go back in time to when I first stated eating it and relive it all over again. It’s just so good and I tell everyone about it, so do yourself a favor and order some.

This place knows how to make the good stuff. Dan was immediately charming, introducing himself, telling me about his background, and giving great suggestions — all without being pushy. But the taste! I opted for the Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich($ 7.99), which was so juicy with a bit of sweetness. I love the slaw on the sandwich, as well. This sandwich literally melted in my mouth. As a bonus, Dan also offered free samples of the Smoked Mac and Cheese and Cowboy Beans. Both were really great and offered something unique beyond these traditional sides. I definitely wanted to eat more of both of them and felt spoiled. The prices are better than the big guys in Hartford and more personal. I hope this joint is able to expand and thrive! Next time, I am definitely coming back to try the ribs!

FINGERLICKIN’ G-R-E-A-T!!! I found Pig Rig by fellow Unilocaler check in’s on my feed, and on Facebook. We went in on a Saturday for lunch. It is located in the far right corner of the Slider’s plaza, right off of RT5, and very close to the Merritt Parkway(in both directions). This is not your typical«sit down» bbq place, they only have a few tables and chairs. Mostly, this is a place you can order ahead, pick up and bring home, or catered events. I hope if it is feasible they can actually do some outside seating in the warmer months(that would be amazing!) We ordered the ribs(literally fall off the bone loaded w/a lot of meat) and pulled pork(w/coleslaw on top) and they were DELICIOUS. My husband ordered a side of slaw as did I, and our friend had mac and cheese. Everything was so smoky, tender, and cooked perfectly. Just the right amount of seasoning, the roll that my sandwich came on was fresh and I just added extra bbq to my sandwich and boy was that pork good. We had such a great experience here, between the food and the owner, I do not know what is better. We sat down and he asked if it was our first time in(which is always awesome to see management caring about a guest experience) and proceeded to tell us all about the business. This is the same owner from the old Pig Rig that was a food truck outside of the Chef’s Emporium on Rt. 5 in Wallingford. The owner(Dan) designs and makes these food trucks as well. He then offered us the 3 samples of the cowboy beans(YOUNEEDTOGETTHESE) and 3 samples of their spicy chili(wayyy to hot for me, but my husband the spicy guy loved it). What an awesome gesture from the owner!!! Hubby doesn’t EVER-EAT-BEANS– of any kind– and he tried them and I was shocked that in all the years we have been together him say«This is great» after Anything with beans it in. Dang this place is great. From the Army Vet owner(Dan), the cleanliness(impeccable), the United States Flags, and the food being on point, it is CLEAR to everybody reading this– that we will be back. I took a few pics of the menu, I will post them later :)

I picked up a rack of ribs to enjoy at home. The meat was tender and delicious with the only mild disappointments being they were sauced versus being unadorned and they had been pre sliced into individual ribs. Next time I will request them dry and perhaps cut in two.

Stopped in tonight for the 1st time. Ordered a Pulled Pork Platter, side was Mac & Cheese, and Sweet Potato roll. Pork was moist, some fat was present, and it had a slight smokey flavor. No, it’s not up to the quality of pulled pork served at Big Bob Gibson’s in Decatur, Alabama, but for Wallingford, Connecticut, it was decent. Mac & Cheese was OK, but I’ve had better. As another reviewed noted, it was a bit«soggy». Sweet Potato roll was tasty, I liked it. Overall, even though the meal fell short of my expectations, I’d still come back to the Pig Rig BBQ in the future. I just have to realize that the quality of Q here in CT is not on the same level as it is in the South(just like I wouldn’t expect to get outstanding Italian food in the South). I’m sorry, you people who have rated this 5 Star BBQ have not been to the South. Also, felt the platter was a bit expensive at $ 10.99 Again, I realize this is Connecticut, and not the South, but you do get more for your buck down there.

I’ve always found with Southern meals the sides take just as much importance if not more so than other types of cooking. With that said, the sides I’ve had here are absolutely outstanding but I don’t find them to be enough. Perhaps I opted for the wrong meal, I went with the $ 9.99 sandwich, drink and side meal. I would have gladly had half the amount of meat for more Mac & cheese or the opportunity for two small sides. Next time(because without a doubt there will be a next time.) I’ll go for a platter for just a few quarters more. The flavors are authentic. As an ex smoker the taste left behind in my mouth has me dealing with a semi craving, haha. Service is personable and friendly. Location is convenient and clean. Prices are even reasonable. Definitely worth a stop. It’s great to have a new, solid option to lunch line up within 15 minutes of my house. Now if we can get them to deliver?
