Yalesville Veterinary Hospital

I have nothing against the vets there, but the front end policies are ridiculous. I left this vet a few years ago because of the difficulty of getting an appointment for my sick pet. I called at 8:10am and was told that all the sick appointment slots for the day had been taken. I could be seen if I payed a hefty additional emergency visit charge. It wasn’t an emergency so I said can I just make an appointment for the next day. I was told no and that I had to call back the following morning to try to get one of the sick appointment slots. I found it utterly ridiculous that I couldn’t make a simple appointment for my sick cat without jumping through hoops. She said to call at 8:00am… I had called at 8:10 that morning and all the slots were already filled?! I was furious and felt they were just trying to milk the emergency charge. I wrote an email to the office expressing my disgust of the lack of regard for the patient, the owner’s time and schedule, etc and got no response. Needless to say we switched vets to one that graciously made us an appointment ASAP for my sick cat, without us even being a current client. The way it should be. Yes, I’m still irritated about this experience 2 years later.
***Really hoping they have changed this since then. Just an FYI if considering this office. Again, nothing against the vets. They were fine.

These people care more about money than the animals. I’ve called other vets in the past and they were able to tell me at home information that I can use to help my dog. My beagle got into chocolate and just to speak to a vet about it they wanted 65 dollars plus another charge for another consult. I contacted another vet and they told me with the weight of the dog and the amount of chocolate consumed it was only mild risk. They also told me what to look out for and how to feed her all over the phone for free. We are switching veterinarians.

I love this place! Very caring staff of vets and doctors. It’s in a convenient location in town. Place is clean and orderly. I recommend them to anyone who has precious fur babies.

We have been going to the Yalsville vet for many years but when they remodeled did you notice that the rates went up and it was more like bringing your pet to a car dealership to get a routine oil change done In other words your just a number. Well that was just our experience and as far as I am concerned that’s the last time they will see my Norton that’s right Norton so they know who is writing this. They don’t care about your pet all they care about is their bottom line. They gave us a bill for 400.00 for routine shots oh yeah and we got suckered in for their life time shot program they reduced the final bill down to 250.00
We have been going to Meriden Vet and what a pleasure they treat your pet like it’s there own not a used car. The only reason we went back to Yalsville was that we payed for the lifetime shot program. Please don’t get suckered in like we did get the right vet care for your pet. My vet (Meriden Wallingford) recently merged with Yalesville so when I had an emergency with my cat, I brought her there. We waited over 30 minutes to be seen for the initial exam. Then, when reviewing my cat’s x-​ray with Dr. Anderson, she referred to my female cat as a male a number of times, even after I corrected her twice. I was told that if the x-​ray was clear, they would do blood work and if the x-​ray was not clear, they would do an ultrasound. The x-​ray was clear so they did blood work. Dr. Anderson told me the results would be ready the following morning. I called on Friday afternoon and was told Dr. A does not work Fridays and that blood work takes two days so I would hear on Saturday.
This morning I get a call from Dr. Anderson and she tells me that the blood work was «surprisingly» normal (she sounded truly disappointed that it was normal) and that HE now needs an ultrasound. I interrupted her and said «I corrected you a number of times on Thursday that my cat is a FEMALE. Please do not call her a „him“ again.» and she said «I’m so sorry, I’m not a morning person.» I told her I didn’t care. I also told her I was disappointed because she had told me on Thursday that the results would be ready on Friday. She said «Well, I didn’t work yesterday and came in this morning to a note that the blood wasn’t sent to the lab until yesterday morning.» I said, «That’s funny, because the doctor I spoke with yesterday told me the blood work takes two days.» She said there was a trace of blood in the urine even though there were no white cells so they want to do an ultrasound. I said «You told me on Thursday that if the x-​ray and blood work were normal, you would not need to do an ultrasound.» and she said «Well since there was a trace of blood in HIS urine…» and I cut her off again. I said «HER urine. HER. Please send me HER x-​ray and HER blood work results and I will be bringing her elsewhere for a second opinion.» She wanted to know why and I said «Well, first of all, you have referred to HER as a MALE even with me correcting you multiple times, you told me the blood work was going to be ready Friday morning and either you lied to me or the other doctor did, and finally, you want me to get an ultrasound because everything else came back normal and you aren’t even discussing how we’re going to fix her mouth. I want to go to a different doctor.»
I know Yalesville has a good reputation but my first (and only) experience has been extremely negative. She is focused on my cat’s kidneys and/​or possible cancer (even though all signs point to normal) and ignoring the fact that she has an infection in her mouth and can’t eat. So we’re off to another vet.

Everyone that we encountered at the practice treated my dog, and I, as if we were their only patient of the day. While we were there for my dogs «well visit» they discovered a lump in her abdomen. They tested it while I was in the office, and since they have a lab on site, were able to give me a diagnosis right then and there. They then explained everything, and even printed out more information off the internet to make sure that I was completely comfortable with their diagnosis.
As far as «sick visits», last week i got an appointment the day I called. I brought my dog in, and it turned out that due to her stomach «thing» she was dehydrated. They gave her iv fluids, and kept her for the remainder of the afternoon and early evening so that they could continue giving her iv fluids. After I took her home, every day for the entire next week they called to check in and see how my dog was doing. Each time they called they asked specific questions about her diet and her energy level. I felt that they really cared about my dog as a patient, and wanted to make sure that she was recovering properly. I highly recommend Yalesville Vet hospital!

They diagnosed my cat with stomach cancer when two other vets told me that she was vomiting due to «lack of hairball control.» They were wonderful and supportive right up until the very last minutes of her life. After her passing we got a paw print impression from my cat along with a hand written condolences card. Their kind and caring staff made a painful time a bit easier.
Our other cat, dog and even our parrot all see vets at Yalesville. I have always been impressed with their modern facilities, great staff and knowledgable and caring vets.

I went to this vet when my cat was attacked by a dog, It was a Sunday and I really do not like the emergency vet in our area. My vet who also has Sunday hrs. told me they didn’t have time to see my cat. My friend said she uses Yalesville vet and are real nice so I called. They took me right away. When I got there the staff was extremely nice and took my baby in with me in tow right away. The tech was very calming to my cat. The Dr. came in to tell me what would need to be done and was very supportive for me. When the cost of everything was traumatic to me they were very understanding. They offer a program called Care Credit that I signed up for and was approved on the spot. I had to bring my cat back weekly for 5 weeks for check ups, each week they were compassionate to his needs and mine. My dog and 3 other cats now have a new vet. My son is bringing his dog there this afternoon.

I have been coming to this vet’s office for about a year now, I believe. My new kitty is an 8 year old tabby cat. We’ve had her for 7 months. Unfortunately she’s got an issue and needs a rather expensive surgery. Leading up to this surgery the vet staff has been nothing but wonderful and helpful. They have taken extra time to answer all of my questions and every time my baby has to stay for more than a day they encourage me to come visit and NEVER act like its an imposition when I do arrive to see her.
I am very, very pleased with almost every aspect of the care here. The 3 vets that work here are great, though I admit that I have my favorite :) And the vet techs are always sweet to my kitty and take the time to treat her right.
Also, it never smells nasty here. It almost doesn’t even look like a vets office its so chic and comfortable.

We started using Yalesville after a recommendation from a family member back in 1994 and couldn’t have been more pleased. We were blessed with their help for the 16 ½ years of our dog’s life and they were always fantastic. As she got older, their compassion and counsel were greatly appreciated. When we were faced with the tough decision to put her down, the entire staff was wonderful — very pleasant, caring and gave us all that we needed that day. Now, a year and a half later, we’re going back with our new puppy. It’s a 35 minute drive for me and I pass no less than five other vets along the way but the drive is well worth it. Dr. s Kostolitz and Saravis are terrific and we look forward to getting to know the new staff members.

My cat needed a yearly check up. Rather than drive to New Britian, I decided to go here since this place is literally down the street from me. For real, I could have walked here but who wants to carry a yowling cat down the street? Not this girl.
Anyway.
When I came into the waiting area, two things jumped out at me right away:
1.The lobby/​waiting area was spotless
2. It didn’t smell like animals. Some area veterinary hospitals smell like wet dog and that alone will make me gag. This place didn’t.
The staff and doctor we saw were wonderful, kind people. Cats are a lot more difficult to deal with than dogs; the tech and vet were able to calm my cat down to where they could perform the exam and give him shots. The exam room and blood drawing areas were really clean. The whole experience was incredibly professional from a professional yet empathetic staff.
While my cat does need additional testing, I feel more than comfortable bringing him here again and having to leave him here for a day of testing. I can tell that this place really cares about their furry patients and will work with you as the owner as opposed to acting like you not bringing your cat in every year is an act of abuse and you probably hoard 75 cats in a one bedroom apartment.
Tip: They will also clip your cat’s nails which is great since clipping a cat’s claws is like a full out wrestling match.
