Katie N.

Business Owner

Dr. Katie Ngan is the only dually licensed Acupuncturist and Chiropractor also certified in Ayurveda in the entire Bay Area. She received her undergraduate degree in Communication Studies from UCLA and established a successful marketing career, until a health crisis forced her to reevaluate her lifestyle choices. Not satisfied with what conventional medicine offered, she turned to alternative medicine for answers and was fascinated by its ability to heal from the inside out. She knew then if she could help others begin their own journey towards vibrant health, she would be living her life’s purpose. Thus began a five-​year mission to learn three different systems of medicine at the Southern California University of Health Sciences, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude from all programs and was Valedictorian of her acupuncture class. She draws upon her broad set of skills to treat patients more comprehensively.

I came to Ahimsa after many years of back, shoulder, and knee pain as a result of years of commuting 3 or more hours a day by car. After an episode that momentarily left me unable to get out bed I had to find a better solution. As a scientist I did a great deal of research into how and with whom I was going to seek my therapy when I came across Dr. Katie Ngan. I was both impressed and encourage by what I learned about her education, her breadth of experience, and her approach.
Even with those high expectations I have been absolutely blown away be Dr. Katie’s skills and the positive effect she’s had on me, my pains, and my issues. Her help has been fantastic.
If you are unsure or skeptical I understand but I also cannot recommend and encourage treatment with Dr. Katie strongly enough.

I have had severe month long migraines for 2 decades. Have been in and out of neurologists, MRIs, 1600mg of motrins daily, all the triptans in the world have stopped working on me, Botox didn’t work, tried multiple natural remedies like essential oils, neuromuscular massage, chiro work, diet change, sleep patterns, etc… I definitely did NOT have my hopes up when I met Dr. Katie. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even have the patience to go for more than 5 sessions so I asked her how many sessions it would take to see improvements. Well, little did I know that not only did I improve within 5 sessions, but now when i do get a migraine, it doesn’t go on for weeks on end, the duration and severity and recurrence has drastically improved. I have gone one whole week without a headache and for me that’s simply miraculous. Dr. Katie’s herbs are also miraculous and are taking place of motrin. I’m not off my perscriptions yet but have all the confidence that I will get there with Dr. Katie. She is simply amazing, it’s not just her treatments, it’s how much time she takes and how much she cares that has also made a huge difference. I highly recommend Dr. Katie!

I had a recurring injury to my spine which aggravated my right sciatic nerve. After consulting with Dr Ngan, she provided four separate treatments over four weeks. I improved 100%, and all the pain has gone. She also provided directions on a series of exercises and yoga poses that would alleviate the back and sciatic pain. I highly recommend her!

I was referred to Dr. Katie from a colleague at work after moving to Walnut Creek from San Francisco. I came to Ahimsa during my second pregnancy to help with placenta previa as well as relieving my uncomfortable side effects. Dr Katie not only helped me relieve nausea, night sweats, anxiety, headaches, sciatica and tailbone pain, but was able to clear the issue with placenta.
Beyond the physical and medical benefits, it is extremely easy to schedule appointments and Dr. Katie personalizes every appointment to help with whatever is ailing me. I look forward to continuing to go to Ahimsa once the baby arrives and continuing to feel great.

I was referred to Dr. Katie by my pain management Doctor. For years I took prescription medication for chronic back pain. It was time to change.
After three sessions I was able to completely discontinue the medication. My pain went from a daily 5 or 6 to barely a 1. I have no doubt that I’ll be pain free at the end of treatment.
Dr. Katie listens to you and creates a treatment plan specific to your needs. She is very knowledgeable about alternative treatments for health care.
I highly recommend her. I’ve found a doctor for life.

I have always been a skeptic of Asian medicinal beliefs and practices, but after being treated by Doctor Katie, I can honestly say I am a firm believer in the art of Acupuncture. I am being treated for a shoulder pain caused by some phantom injury while I was dancing and it has been an ongoing issue for the past year and a half, but with the acupuncture and chiropractic treatment and my pain level has become almost unnoticeable! Throughout the ups and downs in my treatment, Dr. Katie has never given up, and was determined to find the right cure for me, and she did. She not only has solved this issue, she’s been a tremendous advocate for the rest of my health: including stress management, skin remedies, and even finding me a new toothpaste that works for me! The care I have received from her is abundant in all aspects of my life. I am truly grateful for having her come into my life and I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to book an appointment with her!

AMAZING PRACTITIONER, AMAZING PERSON!!! This review is long overdue for Dr. Katie. I have been seeing her for about two months mostly due to lower back pain and a few other small things :) From the very first visit, I knew I could trust her with my health. She truly cares about ME and wants to help ME in any way she can. My case is complex and she incorporates everything she knows in order to help make me feel better. Being in the medical field, I am particular when it comes to EVERYTHING. Bedside manner is AMAZING and her explanations are VERY DETAILED. I’m positive she takes care of all of her patients with the upmost care and thoughtfulness like she has done so for me!

Dr. Ngan’s acupuncture and chiropractic care is wonderful. She is very attentive to any and all issues you may have. I have scoliosis and the back pain in the last few years was getting intolerable. Seeing Dr. Ngan has helped relieve the back pain through adjustments and needling. Dr. Katie is attentive, intuitive and genuinely cares about her patients. During the course of my treatments with her, I have found her to be an excellent practitioner. She works with you to address not only the symptoms but also the root causes of the condition. I appreciate her talking with me about diet, movement, and stress relief suggestions to incorporate into my daily routine.

Katie is wonderful. My husband and I never had acupuncture before and we had heard wonderful things of how it helps you feel better so we found Katie! She was very thorough with explaining the whole process and discussed with each of us what things we were hoping to get relief from. My husband had horrible back problems and had been suffering for years and on pain meds. Acupuncture not only made him feel better it totally took the pain away and he’s now off of all pain meds and going to the gym 5 times a week with no problems! Acupuncture helped me with my migraines and helped me with my digestion problems and all together made me feel so much better every day. It was amazing. Katie was always offering us suggestions and supplements to help and she was always so kind and friendly, it was like we knew her for years she was that great! Dr. Ngan is a life saver. I woke up one morning with a severe kink in my neck which left me completely restricted. I called Dr. Ngan and she was able to see me the same day! She corrected the immediate issue and the provided a stretching plan that helped get back to normal over the coming weeks. I highly recommend Dr. Ngan if you are looking for a chiropractor that focuses on addressing the root problem for long term healing.

Dr. Katie is absolutely wonderful! I had been to acupuncture a few times when I lived in Texas and was happy with the experience there, but as soon as I went to Katie, I figured out how much better it could be.
She was able to completely get rid of my migraines, which is a godsend! Anyone who has migraines will understand how excited I was when I realized they were gone. I don’t even get a slight headache anymore.
Dr. Katie is very professional and really takes the time to understand your needs. She is very gentle with the needles and I can honestly say that I look forward to my visits every time. If you’re thinking of trying out acupuncture, I can only recommend it and Dr. Katie.

I started having facial pain and got worse and worse to the point that I was unable to sleep… I went to see my doctor and the diagnosis was Trigeminal Neuralgia… I was in pain killer medication for a long time without having any satisfactory improvement.
We start looking for an alternative way to fight this «nightmare» and we find Dr. Ngan… The improvement has been amazing… We started the acupuncture treatment in June last year and I’m very please with the result.
I was looking for a miracle in that point and she made it happens.

During radiation treatments for breast cancer, I decided I wanted to get acupuncture every day. Luckily I found Dr Katie. I have learned a lot from Dr. Katie about nutrition and food as it applies to Chinese Medicine. She feeds me muffins and turned me onto bone broth for protein and I have been a fan ever since. Of course it goes with out saying she is an excellent acupuncturist as well! Dr Katie’s bedside manner is personable, upbeat, and funny! What are you waiting for – book an appointment already!
