Big O Tire Stores

This place tried to rip me off in the worst way! I went there with a nail in my tire (I had bought the tire from there) and asked them to look at it and see if they can fix it. An hour later they called me (I was eating around the corner) and told me that I needed to buy a new tire as the tire was not replaceable. The new tire $ 240. They also added that my other tire had a problem with it and needed to be replaced too… Another $ 240. I had a bad feeling about the place so I said no and said I will come and pick up my car.
I went to America’s tire in San Ramon and had them check it out. They fixed my tire for free (again not there tire) and when I told them about what the person said about my other tire they laughed and said where did you go to Big O tires. Do not go there… Don’t say you weren’t warned.

Great customer service! I ordered a new set of tires for my vehicle, they special ordered them but didn’t take 3 – 6 business days as Costco tires does, it only took them less than 24 hours to get them! When I arrived there (toting a two year old :) I needed a ride home but the shuttle service was out and about. So, they took us in our own car all the way home and then came back home to pick us up just when they said they would. Prices are pretty much the same as Costco but the customer service just tops it off! ;)

Much thanks to Jack and the rest of the staff at Big O Walnut Creek for staying open on Sunday afternoon (Memorial Day Weekend) to replace my flat tire. They let me take my car in at 3 pm (normal hours are until 2 pm on Sundays) and stayed open until 7 pm to finish the job. Not sure what I would have done without them, as nowhere else was open at the time.

I love bringing my car to this place! I bring my car here for an oil change. They always tell me if I need something else done besides the oil change or if it something that can wait until the next time I come in. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. They have a shuttle service so, I don’t have to wait there. I am so glad I know about this place!

I recently found a nail on my tire and of course the big o nearest to me was already closed! Called Walnut Creek, about 2 minutes till closing… they stayed open till I got there fixed my tire and were very cool! Jack you rock!

My wife were in and out with the alignment we needed. Service was great! Price was great too. We were able to relax in the lounge and the place was very clean.

My wife starting coming here for oil changes when they started their $ 199 for 6 synthetic oil changes.
They have always been respectful of my ‘high performance’ car and the techs give good recommendations. Some of their recommendations are premature or preventative maintenance, but it does give me a good warning for future service.
My parents just started going here for oil changes, through my recommendation, and had a similar positive experience.

Took our car in to get an oil change, rotate/​align tires, and new brakes. Not only did they have the car there for 6 hours, but they said they’d call when it was ready. They close at 6pm… it was 5:40pm and we hadn’t heard anything, so we drove over. Their response was «should only be about 10 minutes». That was perfectly fine, and we just sat down. 30 minutes later the guy comes in and says «your car is done, but the guy didn’t tighten the oil filter all the way and it spilled, so we’re just trying to get that cleaned up.» Another 30 minutes go by, and we finally got the car back. They gave us a freebie coupon thingy (which will be used at ANOTHER location after tonight’s episode) but the only reason they tried to make amends is because I made some very pointed remarks when they finally acknowledged our waiting for so long.
Oh and while we waited, another woman waiting gave up and let her car stay there over night, and a girl came back in to the store saying her stereo stopped working after she got the car back from them. She waited for about 30 minutes before they even started to take a look at it, and she was still there when we left.

As I payed for tires at Big-​O I witnessed a Big-​O clerk arguing with a repeat customer over a nickel. Rather than keep a valued customer and make things right, the rude clerk argued repeatedly with the customer in a childish manner. It made me uncomfortable and not willing to give any more business to Big-​O when they treat customers this way. I will go elsewhere to buy tires.

Beyond unimpressed.
My boyfriend called ahead to to see if Big O had a set of 4 tires he wanted for his truck as his current ones were bald. They had the tires in stock.
When we walked in and the two employees behind the desk both looked up at us and then returned to looked straight back at their computers without saying ‘hello’. After a few awkward moments the male employee said ‘can I help you’ in a tone and body language that felt more like ‘why are you here?’. Now I’m not a picky customer, and i know we all have our bad days at work, but the demeanor and tone throughout our entire interaction was horrible! When my boyfriend mentioned being interested in wheels they employee got frusterated, stating they don’t have them in stock, he would have to order them and told us they receive no money from placing new wheels, they just order them from the company. My boyfriend wasn’t sure what wheels he wanted yet, and we left, disgusted with the customer service.

Matt Lewis was the one helping us and we were very unhappy with the service. They didn’t evaluate the time they’ll need correctly and I lost the whole day instead of just morning. They tried to sell us thousand things we needed and probably didn’t :) After we finally ordered one of these things they weren’t actually able to replace it!
I don’t recommend going there, go somewhere else, where people are fair and can do things quickly with a good quality.

My experience was terrible. I had a new SUV with only 3,000 miles on it, but all 4 Michelin tires had hairline cracks on them (which was pointed out by my mechanic). Big O said they could replaced them with Michelin, BF Goodrich or Uniroyal tires and that installation would be free since it was covered under Michelin’s warranty. Not confident about replacing with the same tires that had cracks, I elected to go with Goodrich.
Well after waiting more than a week for my Goodrich tires, they ended up charging me for a disposal and recycling fee of $ 20, plus $ 60 installation and another $ 20 for nitrogen instead of filling the tires with air. Nothing was said about these fees up front. Would I use them again, NO! I checked with Michelin customer service (which were wonderful) and was told the tires are returned to them for evaluation and installation is included since my tires were virtually new when I had them replaced. Well, I went back and made a stink about the charges (rather loudly in front of their waiting area) and was refunded all the above charges. Had I not been on top of the situation, I would have been $ 100 lighter!
I bought the 6 years insurance for $ 17/​tire, but got nothing from them to document this until I finally went back and insist that I get some kind of documentation or a refund on the insurance since my paperwork only made reference to their standard 3-​year warranty. Nothing on the documents said I had 6 years of road hazard, flat, etc. insurance. I made them writing something down on my paperwork about the insurance. Never have I heard about paying $ 68 for insurance and getting zip about what is covered. I was told any Big O tire store will honor the insurance and know what is covered… duh?. My question how about some documentation for my money!
I wish I had read the other reviews before I even stopped at this tire store!

Ugh. What a stressful experience. I had been to another Big O in Southern California and it had been positive. So when I noticed that I was seriously wearing thin on my front tires, this past weekend was go this location near my home.
First of all, they immediately upsell you to tires you don’t need-​they only gave me two options-​the really low cost ones and then really expensive ones. What? Nothing in between?
Then they told me it would 1 hour, okay that’s fair-​well it turned in to well over 2 hours. Not only that but 1 hour in to my wait, they called to ask me about fixing my brakes and giving me a new battery. I went in there for an ALIGNMENT and NEW TIRES-​why, after 60 minutes, do I find out they haven’t EVEN CHECKED THE ALIGNMENT YET!
I really hate the upselling at these places-​especially when it’s a tire place. Fix my tires and get me out of there.
Also, they don’t tell you about the additional fees involved for installation. I calculated one amount when agreeing to two new tires, but when they print out an agreement for you to sign, there was about another $ 60 in fees! Just be upfront when you are quoting me things?
Don’t recommend-​I heard the other tire place down the street is better

These guys are TOTAL scam «artists», and I use the term «artists» loosely. The funny part is when your on hold they play their own ads insisting on how «HONEST» they are… BS!!!
They give me a somewhat reasonable labor $ on brake pad replacement and then refused to take my «Big O» $ 25 coupon b/​c I brought in my own pads (and better ones, and more than HALF the $ than what they were going to charge for their crap brake pads).
Once my car was on the rack (and I could see this coming), I suddenly needed new rotors… If this were the case, then so be it, but they wanted to charge $ 80 EACH for CRAP Chinese rotors.
I then called Napa here in WC, they gave me a $ of $ 25 for the cheap rotors, $ 31 for German (OE) rotors.
Big O is a SCAM! The «O» should stand for «OBSCENE»!
I will NEVER go back!

This place totally tried to haggle me. I have news for you Big O, never bullshit a bullshitter. I saw right through them.
I brought my car here once because it broke down and it was the closest place to where my car had quit life. They replaced the alternater and battery. Not even 5 months later, my car broke down and died again. So naturally, since it was under warranty, I had it brought back there. They asked me what exacly had happened. I explained that I went to get food and parked and ran inside the restaurant to get my take out. When I got back to may car and tried to start it again, it wouldnt start. A tow truck guy came and fixed it. Then there was another time where I left my house to go to school and the car would not start. Then I didn’t hear from them for a few days. They called me and said that they weren’t entirely sure what the problem was, but they could replace and fix a couple things and then run a $ 400 test to see what the problem was. I, being a girl, had no idea what they were talking about and whether or not they were being serious. I knew they were haggling me. I called my dad and explained what they were saying and forwarded the voicemails I had to him. He called them himself and they LIED and told him that I was saying my car was stalling and that that’s why they couldnt figure what the problem was. My dad called me and asked me why I had told them that. Then it turned into a game of he said — she said. It was RETARDED. It was a giant waste of money and I highly doubt they have any idea what they are even doing. I will never go back here EVER again. They never even actually figured out what was wrong with my car. After reading the reviews of other Unilocalers, I think I could have gotten a better deal and less of a hassle anywhere else. And they would have actually been able to figure out the problem anywhere else.
I hate this place. This place BLOWS!

Terrible service! After spending $ 900 on new truck tires, we found that the tire pressure warning system had an alert — I brought the truck in, and was told that it would be another $ 80 to reset the tire pressure warning system. Shouldn’t that just have been a part of the $ 900 service?
. Methinks not — Big O will never get another $ from me!

Apparently, I had a much better experience here than other people. It wasn’t PERFECT, but overall I was satisfied with the end result.
I went in to have my oil changed (after my husband went here and was happy), and also asked them to look at my breaks. I had found a free break inspection coupon on their website — many other good deal there too. When they called me back to tell me all of the many problems with my car, I was pretty shocked at the total.
Before giving them the go-​ahead, I made sure there wasn’t somebody cheaper and made some calls. When I called the Toyota dealership, the guy actually told me that they would charge me double for the same thing and that it was the best price he’d heard of in the area. Unfortunately I still didn’t have enough to pay for it all, so I picked what was most crucial to my safety and had them do all the break pads and fix some leaking axles. They promised me my car would be done by 6pm that night.
I didn’t hear from them and at 5:45 gave them a call, because I was headed out that evening. They said my car was done. When I got there I found out it actually was still in the shop and wouldn’t be finished for another 30 minutes. This was frustrating, but I understood, because the person I talked to was not the one who worked with me from the beginning. The guys actually ended up staying past closing time to get my car back to me that night.
Anyway, when all was said and done, I was able to use another $ 20 off coupon (even though I’d used another one already), and managed to get the guy to give me free tax (which saved me nearly $ 100). I really appreciated their staff’s understanding of my financial situation and willingness to stay late and finish up my car.

I feel like I have been taken hostage since they were only ones open on a Sunday. I also know they were not completely honest with me and took advantage of the situation.
There is no customer service here. How difficult is it to schedule a pick-​up when they know when the job is done and offer it as a «service»? It is so disrespectful as I was trying to get my work done and not miss any of my meetings.
I called at 11 am and was told that someone will pick me up around 12:30 pm. At 12:30 pm, they called to say my tires are in. What??? I thought it was the driver calling … so I am sitting waiting … they can’t spell customer service at Big O.
My advice: stay away!

I came here for a standard oil change. The people are very friendly, and they *seem* to take care of you… but I question their honesty.
They gave me a whole laundry list of things I needed serviced/​replaced on my car. I was particularly worried about a belt they said was starting to crack «badly,» so I decided to take it to the dealership for its scheduled maintenance (as it was almost about that time anyway). They didn’t see the cracking or recommend the belt’s replacement at all. Or the struts, as Big O had suggested.
However, the dealer did recommend replacing my front breaks and a wheel stud that was apparently missing, neither of which Big O had noticed (even with the long list). I’m not surprised about the breaks… it was about time for that. So did Big O even bother to actually *look* at my car? Sadly, it’s questionable.
All I really wanted was an oil change… and I didn’t ask for the up-​sell. But if you’re going to inspect the car anyway and give a long list of work needed, at least be attentive to any real problems.
I won’t be coming back here.

AWFUL experience. I will never go back to this Big O tires. The sales people are extremely pushy and do not take no for an answer. I even have a mind to call the owner to specifically complain about Jack, the person I was the most offended by.
