I couldn’t pass through the front desk to make an appointment. I said I do not have a doctor and she insisted that I send my medical records and get my doctor to send a referral before she can set up an appointment. So I guess I have to go see a general doctor for no reason to just get a referral to see Dr Lerner? She also asked me some insurance questions then confused herself. I asked to talk to the doctor but was declined.

I was referred to Dr. Lerner at in April 2015 by my OBGYN for what she feared was ovarian cancer. On the day of my first visit and consultation, Dr. Lerner was four hours late due to a scheduled surgery that ran long. Once he arrived and I went in for my visit after waiting for him for four hours, he was very cold, uncaring, arrogant and condescending. According to the info on Dr Lerner’s website, his video on the website and the front desk scheduler, my first appointment with him should have been close to an hour. However, Dr. Lerner was done with me in under 15 minutes and couldn’t wait to get out of the room. I had a long list of questions to ask him that I didn’t even get the chance to bring up as he rushed out the door. I did get to ask him one question, which he answered in a very condescending tone while chuckling. I was appalled at how I was treated as a patient at a women’s cancer clinic by a Dr who should be very caring and understanding. He should have better bedside manners. After that interaction, I didn’t feel comfortable at all having him treat and perform surgery on me. I have switched to another Doctor at the same office and will post my experience with him following my appointment.

I was referred to Dr. Lerner after a laproscopic biopsy was done which revealed Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. I initially thought there was some mistake as my ovaries had been removed back in the late 80’s when I had a complete hysterectomy. How could I possibly have Ovarian Cancer when I didn’t have any ovaries? After meeting with Dr. Lerner he explained that although rare, this can in fact happen. Dr. Lerner and Dr. Edraki were both highly recommended and I immediately felt comfortable and confident that if anyone could save me it would be Dr. Lerner. And I was right. Two weeks later I was in surgery and he was able to remove all the cancer! He then referred me to Contra Costa Oncology where I would undergo chemotherapy. Dr. Lerner is the most caring, compassionate and highly skilled surgeon there is. His staff is professional, friendly and will take the time to answer all your questions. They are there there for you every step of the wayl Dr. Lerner is an outstanding surgeon and I know he will do everything humanly possibly to prolong my life. I trust him with my life and my husband and I know that he is not only one of the best surgeons around, but he is also a wonderful doctor and we are so blessed to be under his care.

In August 2014 my ob/gyn sent me to Dr. Lerner. I never thought I would end up with cancer. He was very caring, explained everything and was professional. His staff was great was well. They assisted me with a problem I encounter with my insurance carrier. They took care of completing the necessary forms and faxing them back the same day. I had my surgery early October 2014. Have had 2 follow up visits and Dr. Lerner’s demeanor never changes. You feel like you have someone in your corner. If you need to go to an ob/gyn oncologist, I would highly recommend him.

In April 2014 I had a procedure that, although very light weight for Dr. Lerner, it was the response to a condition that had caused me months of concern & anxiety, besides pain. Over the previous months, I had had many consultations with various doctors, & I was left in what one person called«a medical quandary.» Amidst this process, I consulted with Dr. Lerner who calmly answered my questions, & left me to my devises. Overall, I felt the most confidence with him. When I decided to submit to surgery with him, I received push back from the other doctors who termed my choice as being overkill & they doubted he’d take my case, however they all acknowledged that he came highly regarded. Most importantly, Dr. Lerner was willing to perform the operation!(In our 2nd meeting he actually smiled at me & said«I’d be happy to do it.» Ha, take that naysayers.) Yes, he’s younger, & initially reserved, but he’s one excellent physician. In my research prior to, & after choosing him, everything points to him being a stellar physician in his niche. I am humbled by & admire his dedication to women, especially in such a grave specialty. I wish him a long & happy career. Thank you Dr. Lerner, & to your superb staff too!

Dr. Lerner is a gynecologic oncologist who specializes in ovarian cancer. My gynecologist brought him in as backup because a cancer marker test(CA125) was high enough that what she thought(hoped) was endometriosis could be cancer. She wanted him present for the laparoscopic surgery in case it was cancer. I had a pre-op visit with him and found him to be warm, but reserved, and very open to any question or concern I had. He was respectful, gentle and quick about the pelvic exam and made sure to have his female nurse present. I felt comfortable with him. He requested that I get another blood cancer marker test done that was specific to the ovary as one more piece of information before my surgery(Ova1). The day of the surgery he had the results of the second cancer marker. While the tests aren’t accurate, they can be predictive of cancer. Out of a 10 point scale for this particular test(Ova1), my score was a 9.2. He kindly, and gently told me that he now feared we’d find cancer and wanted to go over the worst case scenario plan again to make sure I fully understood what would happen if he found cancer. He handled a tough situation very well. Luckily it wasn’t cancer, but severe endometriosis. My GYN said she felt lucky to have Dr. Lerner there anyway because he’s an excellent surgeon. When they found that my ureter was stuck to my left ovary due to the endometriosis, she had him perform the delicate robotic assisted surgery. Dr. Lerner is a young guy, but don’t mistake youth for a lack of experience. He gets high marks from me!
