Dr. Bennett’s Veterinary House Calls is a mobile veterinary practice serving the East Bay Area. Our goal is to deliver complete and affordable outpatient pet care in the privacy and security of your pet’s home. We go the extra mile to bring superb bedside manner to you and your pet and to educate you every step of the way. You’re family will experience minimal stress with maximum convenience in obtaining personalized veterinary care. Our services include general medicine, preventative medicine, minor injury, minor surgery, skin problems, behavior, hospice, euthanasia services and care of remains. Dr. Bennett works with the best local specialty hospitals including UC Davis to make sure your pet is provided with the finest cutting edge medicine available.

Dr. Bennett’s Veterinary House Calls offers in home veterinary service to those pets and people that have trouble getting to a brick and mortar veterinary clinic. Many pets become terrified when they visit the veterinary hospital making the whole ordeal very difficult for them and everyone involved. As a Mobile veterinarian, Dr. Bennett is able to minimize a pets fear of the veterinary clinic by bringing excellent veterinary care into the pets own living space. Furthermore, pet owners who have mobility problems or simply do not have the time to travel to a brick and mortar hospital appreciate a veterinarian that offers house calls. Dr. Bennett’s Veterinary House Calls is a practice with a mission: To deliver quality compassionate home veterinary care with minimal stress for a reasonable cost. Dr. Bennett was raised in Walnut Creek, California. He started collecting bugs and snakes by the age of six. By high school he and his brother Mathew were involved in wildlife rehabilitation working with birds of prey that had been injured or orphaned. Dr. Bennett earned a B. S in microbiology and medical technology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1988. After working for five years in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Bennett went back to school and obtained his DVM from UC Davis in small and companion animal medicine. Dr. Bennett is known for his excellent bedside manner and patience with frighted animals. It is his belief that a healthy pet is a happy pet. and he encourages wellness and preventative medicine.

Dr Bennett came back today to check on our dog. She is doing so much better. We thought her time had come because of her age and condition. Turned out well so far and we get to have her a little longer because of Dr Bennett’s care. Thanks Dr Bennett for helping her age with grace. I will definitely not hesitate to use his service, no more stressful trips to the vet… so awesome for the animals and ourselves.
He is my «new go to mobil vet» Thanks to his great assistant too, she is very helpful and knowledgeable.

Dr Bennett & Shyla were amazing today with helping ease our beautiful cat, Louise, out of her pain & suffering in a 19 yo body. She went peacefully & gently. They showed so much compassion not only for Louise but for me as her grieving cat mom. I highly recommend Dr Bennett… He’s a caring vet & a good person.

Generally a pretty good guy, as I have used him before, but I could not believe how rude and blatantly condescending Dr Bennett was on the phone with me today.
We arranged to have him come to the house to put down my dog, which he told me would be between 11am and 1pm, but that he would most likely be there at 12:00 — 12:30pm. At 11:15am I get a garbled phone call saying something unintelligible apparently from his assistant. I was still at work (10 minutes from my house), based on the 12:00 — 12:30pm comment, but headed to the house right away. I called him on my way and found out that he had already left my house, and then he proceeded to lecture me about how I needed to be there from 11:00 to 1:00pm, taking no responsibility for his other comment about most likely being there between 12:00 and 12:30pm. He did offer to come back and meet me at my house for another $ 90, at which point I declined and hung up the phone. The additional $ 90 was less bothersome than his intensely unfriendly, unhelpful demeanor and tone. Not someone I want near an animal I love.
He was obviously frustrated by my not being there and I was an emotional wreck as I was putting down my dog, losing my friend. For someone who should be a source of compassion, he was only a source of distress. Needless to say I will never use him or recommend him to anyone.
I ended up taking my girl to Sage Veterinary Hospital in Concord, where we were treated respectfully and tenderly, I highly recommend that you go this route if your pet doesn’t mind the vet.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr Bennett and his Assistant. More importantly, my cat did too! After negative experience at local clinic, my cat refused to go into a crate to go anywhere. When a Bengal cat refuses to go, there is no challenging her. Dr Bennett was able to perform EVERYTHING my fur baby needed at my home. I was so impressed because my cat NEVER allowed a vet to take blood from her or cut her nails prior to DR Bennett!!! My fur baby was completely happy after the experience as if nothing happened. I was also impressed how gentle the Doctor was with my cat and the assistant even was «sweet talking », calming the cat during procedures my cat naturally was opposed to, with minor protest meows. NO howling or growling from my cat (she has done in the past). Again, with Doctors Bennet’s and his assistant’s authentically caring about my fur baby, there was no drama and my cat was able to get the care she needed! Thank you!!!

Today we had to put our sweet boy, Casper, down. He was a 13 and ½ year old Lab that lived an amazing life. Dr. Bennett came to our house so Casper could be in his home as he took his last breaths. Dr. Bennett’s bed side manner is wonderful. He was compassionate and very informative of the process. And most of all, Casper was comfortable around him. He even kept sticking his nose in Dr. Bennett’s doctors bag to check him out. After Casper passed over, he stepped out to give us some time. He then took Casper in a very loving way to his car. I highly recommend Dr. Bennett and his services. I know that I will be calling him when we get our next dog, for all vet services in home.

When it came time for our dog to pass on, Dr. Bennett and his assistance provide a painless and dignified euthanasia service that was kind, gentle, and allowed our pet the grace to exit this world without any of the stress associated with a visit to our local veterinarian’s office. We would highly recommend Dr. Bennett’s service for anyone finding themselves in the same position as we were, of making the hard but «right decision» for our dog when that time comes.

We have 3 dogs (Shiba-​inu, very smart but difficult to handle) and 3 cats. Most of our pets were rescued from bad situations, so it’s difficult to bring some to a clinic. I found out about Dr. Bennett through Unilocal,and I have to say it has been a blessing. Not only it’s extremely convenient to have Dr. Bennett visiting our home to check on our pets, which is less stressful for them, but also Dr. Bennett really cares about their health and he constantly follow up on them, he actually helps us about behavior issues, toxic plants, etc. Paying the house visit is worth without hesitation if I think how much gas and time we spend when going to a clinic vs the convince of having Dr. Bennett at our own house. We are extremely happy with Dr. Bennett.

Dr. Bennett is an absolute Godsend. Gone are the stressful visits to veterinarians surgeries and now our dogs actually welcome Dr. B and his wonderful assistant.
He is punctual, reasonably priced and very responsive with follow-​up calls and emails. When the time came for our 13 year old Lab x Phoebe, Dr. B made her passing peaceful, calm and in her own bed with her family around her. He then very delicately and compassionately took her and in a few weeks we had a little box of her ashes, which we spread on her favorite hill. It is always terrible to say goodbye to a much loved pet but Dr. B was so compassionate and patient and made this a peaceful time for Phoebe. .
He came today to see to our big huge 6 year old baby of a Rhodesian Ridgeback and again treated him at the dog’s own pace and calmed him as he subtly carried out the tests. As soon as the vet left, Bobby was snoozing on the couch, perfectly calm. Dr. Bennett is our best vet ever.

It’s been about 5 years since I used Dr. Bennett’s services. He came to my home to put down my very old and sick cat. I have never forgotten him and his very kind assistant since and have since recommended him to many people. I have had to put down a lot of cats in my time for various reasons, and this was by far the best experience for me and the poor cat. I found him so considerate and sensitive. When the time comes for my fella now, if he doesn’t die of natural causes, I will be calling Dr. Bennett again. There is so much more dignity and so far less suffering this way.

Dr. Bennett and his assistant are awesome. It’s so much less stressful to have a vet come to the house than it is to try and take my cat in. Recently we moved to a new house and with all of the recent commotion and stress that my cat has been through I didn’t want to have to bring him in to the vet for his annual exam and shots, but he was due. Thankfully Dr. Bennett can do all of that in your own home!
Dr. Bennett is great and clearly loves what he does. He has a very calming presence that put my cat right at ease. He is very obviously an animal person. One of the best things about Dr. Bennett is that you can actually talk to him on the phone and email him. Never been able to do that with other vets, but Dr. Bennett is very responsive and will even call you personally if needed. Very easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and skilled. Never made me feel like he was in a rush to get on to the next thing — took his time and was very thorough. Totally worth the cost and really isn’t much more than it would be to take my cat in (and in some cases, depending on where you might go it’s less!).
Will never bring my cat in to the vets if I don’t have to — Dr. Bennett is our new Doc for life!

Our little dog had cracked her nail while playing. Our regular vet insisted on dropping her off because they were too busy and just assumed she would just need surgery. The last time this happened to our dog, the vet said she needed surgery and charged us up the wazoo.
We called Dr. Bennett. He arrived promptly and was extremely polite to us and our dogs; we immediately liked him and his assistant.
Not only did Dr. Bennett explain the different levels of care options available (beginning with the least invasive), he was realistic with what each could end up costing. He helped us make an informed decision about care and performed the procedure in our house. He even had medications ready for her.
Dr. Bennett’s prices were fair and our sweet little dog healed completely after the choosing the least invasive choice. Our experience with Dr. Bennett was stress free!

Dave Bennett is one of the most caring, emphatic vets I have ever encountered. I contacted him because Grace, our Russian Blue, hates going to the vet and always pees or poops or vomits in the carrier. I found him to be someone who goes above and beyond the usual services that vets provide and stays with you every step of the day, providing incredible emotional support. Grace, our beloved Russian Blue, was recently diagnosed with cancer, and as of this writing, I don’t know what the outcome will be. But I do know that Dr. Bennett is the best friend your pet could have.

Our sincere gratitude to Dr. Bennett, who provided us with in-​home assistance in letting go of our 18yr old kitty Sage this past Saturday. Dr. Bennett so generously stole time from his day to travel to our home and provide comforting professional care with gentle manners and a very pet-​loving way. He helped us get through a terrible loss by understanding our pet’s needs and our need for closure. He took his time, explained why she was ill, her expected outcome, and that we chose wisely to let her go with grace. We really needed to hear that. What a wonderful person! Dr. Bennett and his assistant (I believe her name is Shila? Apologies if I have this wrong) were absolutely fantastic. I have a very anxious cat who is absolutely impossible to get into a carrier, and he recently caught a cat cold. Knowing full well that this could turn into a more serious infection and out of all options, I asked my veterinary office who they’d recommend for house calls. Dr. Bennett and his assistant are professional, friendly, and truly love and understand animals. I can’t thank them enough for helping ease my stress (which at this rate was probably worse than the cat’s) and helping my little cat get the care he needs. They thought of everything and were fully prepared for everything. I’ll certainly be calling them again!

Dr. Bennet and his assistant were an absolute gift to us yesterday when we had to let go of our sweet, sweet cat Rosie. He came to our home and we were immediately comforted by his compassion and understanding. He explained things gently, and gave us ample time to say goodbye, but was kind enough to step in when it was time for her to go. He was gentle as was his colleague, who generously hugged me before leaving. (I was in desperate need of a hug!) I would highly recommend using his service if you would like for your animals to be treated in the comfort of your own home. I can’t thank him enough for helping us through that difficult moment, his demeanor and wonderful bedside manner really eased our minds and hearts.

Dr. Bennett and his assistants are absolute life savers, to put it mildly. They have been to my house twice and they are professional, knowledgeable and indescribably helpful. They bring everything they need with them. My kitties are tame and loving with me – but not so much with anyone else; and, further, I don’t drive. I am so grateful for his very capable and kind handling of my shy, scared kitties. Dr. Bennett’s Veterinary House Calls is the best! The cost for the service they provide is just fine. Dr. Bennett is pretty cool. Nice guy AND he makes house calls. I’d give him 4 ½ stars, not 5, based upon price rate, but 4 ½ stars isn’t an option.
[I remember desperately searching, 3 years ago for a vet that would come over to my relative’s apartment to euthanize her dying cat, but couldn’t find any one. Instead, I trucked my grieving family member and her feline baby to the local pet hospital. it was an AWFUL EXPERIENCE that could have been less painful if Dr. Bennett’s service existed then. We wanted to be home instead.]
So back to Dr. Bennett. This guy is REALLY, REALLY GREAT. Patient, informative, gentle. I would never hesitate to call him if I needed a veterinary house call. I called him after relocating my relative’s cat to a new home. Kitty was pretty traumatized by the move and the last thing I wanted to do was to traumatize her any further by taking her to a vet’s office. Dr. B. quickly responded and handled the situation professionally and efficiently. He even returned on a different day, with out charging additional fees, with an assistant to help him finish up blood work.
The service is pricier than taking my pets to Hillview Pet Hospital but VERY WELL WORTH IT when the circumstance warrants it.

Our 6 cats (yeah, we’re borderline hoarders, I know…) absolutely hate getting stuffed in pet carriers and being taken to the vet. In fact, they tend to leave us some rather nasty «gifts» in said carriers when we make a vet visit, so not only are they stressed, but I get to clean up some rather disgusting remnants. Not cool.
Dr. Bennett comes to your house, and doesn’t charge much if anything more than it would cost to take the cats in for a normal vet visit. Sold!
