Wow– Keith and his crew did an amazing job on our rather large dog fence. It was not an easy project due to the slope of the yard and trees/​stairs that needed to be accounted for. I met Keith once to go over the project /​get a bid — he instantly got what we were looking for. This project needed to be done without our oversight as we are located out of the Bay Area and will soon move into the house, so it was done on trust only.
The end result was better than I even thought it would be — clear communication, completed on time, aesthetically pleasing, functional, structurally sound !

I called Golden Bear about a small job on the fence at my house. The owner, Keith, indicated that they were very busy, but that he would try to squeeze me in. Two days later he was at the house to provide a bid and two days after that, his guys implemented the repair. The work was high quality, the price was very fair, and Keith and his guys were very professional. Would absolutely recommend them and use them again. Thanks, Keith!

It’s not easy to get a bid from a fence company. Several companies either didn’t return my call or they never showed up to give a bid. Keith, the owner of Golden Bear Construction, not only answered the phone himself but scheduled the appointment for the bid and showed up on time. Keith’s bid was fair, his crew was able to start the work ahead of schedule and they did exceptional work. I was also impressed with how quickly Keith returned several of my emails when I had specific questions about the fence project. I would definitely hire Golden Bear Construction for future jobs.

Keith and his crew do amazing work. I asked for a good neighbor fence with a lattice top, curved gate door and a arbor over the gate entrance and he more than delivered.
I could not be happier with the work, service and final product. Everyday I get home from work, or leave for work, I get to see (and smell) this wonderful new fence. I have received several compliments on the new fence from neighbors and friends.
I would highly recommend Keith (Golden Bear Construction) for any of your fencing, deck or other carpentry projects. I have already recommended Golden bear to my neighbors and my parents! We used Golden Bear Construction for our fence about a year ago and they did a terrific job. The fence has held up nicely and we regularly get compliments on how it looks. The price was competitive and the workers were efficient and courteous. They completed the job (approximately 80′ fence and gate) in 2 days.

The neighbor of my rental and I are replacing a ‘good neighbor’ fence where the back of our two lots meet. My neighbor made an appointment with this company for an estimate. It was about a week before they could work us in.
On the day of the appointment, the agreed upon time came and went. Forty-​five minutes AFTER the scheduled appointment time, this company called my neighbor and told him ‘I am just calling to make sure you are there because I don’t want to waste my time coming out there if there is no one there’. Excuse me? If you were concerned about that shouldn’t you have called thirty minutes BEFORE the appointment time to confirm your appointment? My neighbor did in fact have other obligations that afternoon and couldn’t wait for a delayed appointment.
I was very surprised at this lack of reliability and the lack of respect for the customer’s time considering the sterling reviews on Unilocal.If they can’t show up on time for an appointment or call to say they will be late then how will they be about fixing the fence in a timely manner?
We will be using another company.

After a frustrating experience with another fence company, these guys swooped in and saved the day. They scheduled a reasonable quote and set the right expectations along the way. The fence looks good and no complaints.

Flake !!! No show No call on appointment.

I got quotes from three contractors for replacing a large (130 foot) fence and gate, and Golden Bear was the best price, and so easy to deal with. It took them only two days to complete the job, and it looks fantastic! I’d highly recommend them.

Called this company to set up an appointment for an estimate. First impression was that this company does not appreciate new clientele. Perhaps our project did not appear to be a major revenue generating project for them, but the person I spoke to did not seem very customer service oriented. Nonetheless, the appointment was made one moneth in advance, as that was the earliest they could fit us in. In the end, they were a no-​call and no-​show for the estimate.

I found Golden Bear Fences while walking in my neighborhood. I arranged for 3 estimates. I liked the 1^st bid from G&G. The 2^nd bid from AMM was about the same costs. The 3^rd bid from Golden Bear was the most competitive with quality materials. I read reviews about Keith. I found him very easy to talk to. He couldn’t give me the exact start date due to other projects. I knew it would happen sometime in March. Patience paid off. His main guy Angel and sons did a fine job. So pleased with my new fence. I would certainly recommend them.

Keith and his crew recently replaced a gate and a portion of fence for us (and the job entailed a bit more than a simple replacement because we asked them to move the location of the gate a few feet). They were prompt, efficient, and reasonably priced, and we are very happy with the result – an attractive and solidly constructed new gate. We will certainly be contacting Golden Bear Construction again when we are in a position to move forward with other projects.

I needed a short fence and gate built to create a dog area. Keith returned my call promptly and set up an appointment. He got me an estimate the day after he came by. Even though this was a small project, he was willing to do it.
The end result works well, looks nice and I am pleased with it. The price was fair and the quality is high. I would hire them again.

These guys are OK. The end product looks nice. They took longer than they said they would and they plugged a generator in right next to our home, causing the loud noise to run throughout the home. We had to ask them to move it and they eventually did. 2 out of 5.

I called to get an estimate for my back yard project. The guy I spoke to just didn’t sound like anyone I wanted to do business with. He wasn’t friendly & was a bit on the sharp side.
I decided I’d rather do business with someone who can at least be pleasant to customers!

I recently had a fence built between two properties, with an 8 foot gate on the front section. My neighbor and I had obtained 3 estimates — strangely there was over a thousand dollar difference between the lowest and most expensive. Keith’s was in the middle and was very detailed making it easy to split the costs, as we had some differences in what we wanted. Keith was the only one to comment on the issue with some trees along the fence line. He was able to adapt the fence to accommodate the trees that we wanted to keep.
Keith and his workers were prompt, showing up when they said they would. (The other two companies were very unreliable in this. The workmen were efficient and very nice. They left the yard completely cleaned up at the end of the day. Keith even fixed a small area in another section of fence in the back of the yard for no extra cost. The fence looks great. I love the gate. It is strong and solid. I plan to have more work done — cover for a patio, etc — and I most definitely use Golden Bear again.

I first talked to Keith at Golden Bear Construction about a few weeks ago for installing a pergola. He was the only contractor I contacted for the job who bothered to show up and on time! I have had terrible luck with contractors lately, but Keith was patient and understood exactly what I was looking for.
The first day of the job, Keith showed up and after a brief interaction on the style I left for work. The end of the second day my pergola was up! Everything was exactly how I explained I wanted it! It’s really beautiful. I was encouraged by Keith to choose the Redwood and I am glad I did as all my family and friends were really impressed.
Please do yourself a favor and give Keith a call. The work is great at a resonable price and plus he’s responsive!

We hired Golden Bear to build both a retaining wall and a deck with a pergola.
I chose GB because the owner, Keith, really knows the Lamorinda area. I’ve learned the hard way just how important that is. Lafayette’s soil is unique. It shifts in certain areas and it takes a real local to know how to work with it.
In one way or another we’ve been remodeling our house since 2008 and the work done by Golden Bear construction is the happiest I’ve been with anyone we’ve hired.
Golden Bear does not take short cuts. They do old-​school quality craftsmanship and customer service. They take pride in their work. They are professional and reasonable. Keith is personable and loves what he does.
Example of Golden Bear customer service: I mentioned that my husband works-​out using TRX suspension straps. Keith knew exactly what they were and he’d installed hooks for them in the past. He altered the design of our pergola to install a hook and support so my husband could work-​out in the back yard with his TRX when he wants to. For parties I remove the TRX and hang a lantern from the hook. The versatility of Keith’s design is an awesome addition to the pergola.
Our retaining wall is perfect but our pergola is gorgeous! It has changed the entire look and feel of our back yard. We will hire Keith again for a fence and some more deck work. I wouldn’t recommend any other fence/​deck/​gate/​wood structure company in Lamorinda.
