Loosen up Bodywork started in Pleasant Hill, CA and has continued to grow ever since. I’m a nationaly certified massage therapist that focuses on rehabilitative and sports massage. I’ve also had great success working with prenatal clients. I’ve been a massage therapist instructor for many years and found that the ability to educate clients about their bodies is where real healing happens. Mentoring our therapists on staff here at Loosen up Bodywork has been an extremely rewarding process. Now all of our therapists can provide that same level of service that our clients have come to expect. My goal is to educate people about how to listen to and work with their body to get you feeling your best.

Treated here today w Michael, a track coach with a firm grasp (arghh) on how leg muscles work. Feeling much better already from his treatment on a nagging calf injury that flares up from time to time. I’m impressed, great combo of understanding practical mechanics with bodywork. Hopefully over time he has me up and running… There are situations when regular M.D. stuff just doesn’t work, especially as we age. A good resource for the middle-​age jock community.

I’m leaving feeling like a new person! Today was my first visit and Chris was my senior therapist. I have a complicated back due to severe scoliosis so I’m always skeptical when I go to a new masseuse. Chris blew me away with her skill, attention, tips and care. My back hasn’t felt so opened up in literally years. I’m checking out their packages and membership options. We just moved to Alameda from Walnut Creek, but the drive was so easy and Chris was so skilled and nice that I’m considering becoming a regular anyway.
The room was clean and very comfortable and soothing. The desk staff was helpful, nice, and welcoming. The waiting room was charming with tea and water and cute décor. It’s a little bit of a maze to find their suite but there’s a sweet (unexpected) little garden path inside the building they share with other small businesses that you can take to get there. I definitely recommend this place!

I came in yesterday for a last minute appointment. Thank goodness for online bookings! It makes it so much easier for me to see what’s open and make a choice than having to call and work out the details. I saw Aimee and was very impressed with her technique. We went over what I needed and she did the rest. The atmosphere was nice and the establishment was clean. As the website states this is a Sports and Rehabilitation massage business. Not that they can’t set a relaxing mood, but it seems from other reviews some had this confused with a day spa. As an athlete I need a specialized massage to correct whatever it is that I did to myself in my workouts and I sure got it! Also, the location isn’t that difficult to find, it’s just on the side of the building. Overall I really enjoyed this spot and find it very helpful for my back. Will be back!

I’m in the last few weeks of training for my first marathon and everything was starting to hurt, so I wanted to get a sports massage to help loosen up. After reading a bunch of other Unilocal reviews I landed on Loosen Up Bodywork and booked my massage with Kristina. It was AWESOME. I felt very welcomed from the moment I walked in — Kristina asked me a series of questions about what was hurting, and what I was looking for in my massage. She was very attentive to my pain points and extremely professional. I’m definitely going back to see her!

I’ve been coming to Gina for nearly 5 years. I had severe low back pain and could barely function when I met Gina. I had been getting epidurals & going to Physical Therapy plus having to take pain medication. Gina’s body work has kept me out of the ER, no more epidurals or pain meds! I can now live a comfortable life from her regular massages. She not only gives a fabulous deep tissue massage, relieves the pain, she has educated me so much about my own body. She has taught me self care & given me things I can do at home to improve my back. She teaches massage therapy so she knows anatomy well. Seeing Gina regularly has been the key for me. She is the best massage therapist I know about. I’ve been to at least 6 trying to get relief because she is an hour away from where I now live. I always return to Gina at least once a month for maintenance.

I have a semi-​chronic neck issue, but lately I neglected it and did not take care of it. Well… I strained my neck severely after a swim practice, and since then, my right side neck, shoulder, and mid back was in pain.
Out of desperation, I made an appointment at Loosen Up Bodywork. The person available at that time is Aimee, one of the new therapists.
I was lucky to find her.
For the whole one hour, she really focused on my neck and shoulder, and worked on loosening up my tight knots and trigger points. She is very experienced with various techniques, and she combined them to make my muscles loosen up more. She also taught me a few exercise I can do to stretch my muscles too. Now, I can turn my neck better, and finally am feeling better.

I am so glad I came here for a massage! I went to Kristina and she was awesome! She was always checking in with me and making sure everything felt ok. She worked out a ton of my knots and I felt so relaxed afterwords. It was the first time I have had a sports massage and it was the best. I have been training for a half marathon and was so sore. It was just what I needed! I will definitely going back here again! Also the online booking is super easy, huge bonus!

This is my first Unilocal review ever. I have to give Michael at Loosen Up Bodywork a 5-​star review. He really helped relieve some very painful areas in my left hamstring muscles and surrounding areas from my lower back to my knee. The attention he gave with his deep tissue work really took some of the knots out. I now realize I have to pay better attention to my body and the workout routines I do. I will be returning to Michael for sure and am grateful to Gina for her free «roller classes» in Walnut Creek which I found posted on Meet-​up as I might never have found this massage studio otherwise.

Last week I came in to see Sean and was blown away! The attention and presence he provided for me was supportive and kind. I felt immediately relaxed and safe and that is very important during a massage. He knew exactly where the tension areas were and used a number of techniques to release the pain that had been stored in my muscles for years! I am impressed! Gina is a miracle worker! Along with Kaiser acupuncturist and Gina’s massages, my chronic back pain has been kept in check. If I am not able to do acupuncture or massage, my back and hip are in constant pain. Gina is invested in my desire to be pain free. I absolutely love her! I so appreciate her concern to make sure my back is not tense and am amazed at how she is able to massage the pain away! I appreciate the exercises she gives me to help my hip and back stay pain free! I am a firm believer in maintenance work! Gina is part of the reason I am able to live a life without pain! You want a masseuse who is knowledgeable in her skills and conscientious about her work, Gina is the person to see!

Overpriced and with average quality!
I was surprised to find the place in a basement of a building next to the highway for a spa that charges $ 100 for a one-​hour full body massage. I was then expecting a great massage but was disappointed by the pressure, the flow, the lack of any hot towels… Also surprised it has such high ratings.

Gina (the owner) is really good. Like REALLY good. As someone who works at a high-​stress job it is easy for me to get knots. Gina finds them and works on them. She also is very good at finding your trouble areas. For me that can be my lower back. Gina adjusts the massage to whatever your body needs. Many massage therapists have a routine that they stick to no matter what you tell them needs work. You may need a lot of back work but end up with a full-​body massage and not getting the relief you need. Not with Gina. She takes care of her clients.
I love the online booking option but you need to be prompt. Her schedule fills up quickly.

Oh my goodness. Jackie works miracles. Seriously, the best trigger point (deep tissue) massage I have EVER had (and I have been getting massages for the past 20 years). I am going back next week! I have had lower back and hip pain for years, and years. After leaving Jackie I felt hopeful (for the first time in a long time) that after a few more treatments, I might be back to 100%. In addition to her magic hands, she has a stellar personality and is perfectly professional and easy going at the same time. Book now because very soon she it is going to be hard to get an appointment with her!!!
Also, become a member and you get awesome discounts. Ample parking is a plus, as well.

WOW — just had one of the best deep tissue massages by Jackie Owens! I’ve been a fan and regular client of Gina Tibbs, but every now and then, I see the other wonderful massage therapists here when I need a massage asap (Gina books out 2 – 3 weeks in advance). Gina has fixed me up after I tore the same muscle twice, but lately, I’ve been having worse neck, shoulder and lower back pain (usually a chronic issue for me), and hence the need for the next available appointment. I’m so happy for this, as I was able to experience Jackie’s amazing deep tissue massage. Love her technique, and how she really gets into the knots (I have many). Will be sure to see these two talented ladies for a long, long time.
TIP: for those who get regular massages, there is a package deal of 10 massages for $ 750 (paid up front).

Had a GREAT one hour massage last month with Gina Johns (not the owner Gina, but the other Gina!). I originally was signed up for a deep tissue but when I got there I let Gina know about some concerns I had and we decided a mix between deep tissue and a swedish massage would probably suit me best.
The whole experience was great, very relaxing, Gina was very attentive and made sure I was always comfortable. We talked throughout the massage but only because I instigated conversation (I can’t handle a totally silent massage!). I learned about different types of massages, how they can benefit you in different ways and a little bit about Gina!
The only tough thing was finding the office (like a few other reviewers wrote). You have to go through a pair of glass doors that look like they’re leading into an outdoor patio, but actually lead you to another glass door, then immediately go down some stairs and you’ll find yourself in front of the office.
I really loved my experience and will definitely be back to visit Gina sometime soon :)

I went to see Shawn twice over the holiday period — totally worth it. He was excellent and really knew what he was doing. Loosened up my seized-​up muscles and gave me good advice on how to improve my posture etc. to prevent problems in the future. I was a little apprehensive about having a male massage therapist before I went, but it was totally fine as I was covered by a sheet the whole time. I cannot recommend this place enough!
PS: It can be a little hard to find, so ask for directions when you book.
