History

Established in 1981.

John Traverso founded the company in 1981 (he was a nurseryman for six years at Orchard Nursery in Lafayette prior to that). John started out as a landscape contractor and trimmed trees in the winter to complement the landscaping. In 1986 he became a Certified Arborist, and later a Board Certified Master Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture. He found out he really enjoyed doing tree work, and in 1989 he decided to concentrate exclusively on trees.

The company now has 16 crew members including fourteen Certified Tree Workers, four of which are also Certified Arborists.

Arborist Association, educator at dozens of seminars, proctor for local arborist certifications, and competitor /​coordinator for the Western Chapters Tree Climbing Championships. When he is not working John enjoys recreational tree climbing and moto cross racing.

Of the three tree services that I’ve used, Traverso is simply the best and a ‘cut’ above. Not only is their workmenship highly efficient, they clean the premises to its original state. I am so impressed with the outstanding human relations skills of everyone in this company, plus they deliver a service that is reasonably priced.

Traverso did a wonderful job. Thinned and pruned a 90 foot tall red oak in the backyard, and also thinned two 40-​foot front yard trees. They did exactly as requested – thinned and lightened the load on the tree, without diminishing the overall the appearance and balance. Clean-​up was complete and immaculate. No damage to existing plants. Hard-​working, polite crew. Everything looks great! Will definitely call again for future tree work. Thank you, Traverso, for a very professional job.

Awesome experience with these folks. The wait for a time slot to have them come out was long but worth it. They did a great job taking down a redwood in our backyard without damaging a nearby lampost and retaining wall. Took out a huge mulberry that was entangled in electrical wires and removed several stumps. Good crew, did the job right and cleaned up before they left. Highly recommend!

After a huge wind and rain storm a huge branch from a tree in my backyard broke and damaged my roof. I called traverso out to see about cutting some of the other big branches hanging over my house and Steve gave me a great price. Was very professional and gave me other recommendations about how to take care of the tree in the future. I’m actually having them out again for other projects.

On 3÷24÷2016, Traverso Tree Service removed one Pittosporum tree (about 25′ high) and an 18″ diameter shamel ash tree (about 70+ feet high). Work also included grinding stumps on both trees after removal. Workers included a crew of 5 people, and started at approx. 8:45 pm and completed at approx. 1 pm. Cleaned up thoroughly including removing any leaves that got in the pool. This is the third time I have used Traverso, and each time have had excellent service. I will use them again in the future.

I have an acre of 100+ Year old oak trees, persimmons (2), an ancient 30 Ft tall Olive tree and a 50 Ft tall pepper tree. The Traverso crew came in and not only trimmed each tree to perfection but they left the yard spotless! I’ve never seen the trees look better and w/​the spring leaves sprouting, the yard looks like a picture book!
And their pricing was extremely reasonable.
You owe to yourself to use this team!

I have used Traverso Tree Service for 5 years. I appreciate the expertise of their arborist and they consistently are on the site when they say they will be. The tree trimmers are professional and need very little direction while the job is underway. I had so much confidence in them, the last time they trimmed trees, I explained the job over the phone and wasn’t even home when they did the work.
I never worry that there will be a mess after they’ve worked on my property because they clean up well before they leave.
They even offer free mulch delivery when they have extra available.
The office personnel is professional and efficient.
I highly recommend Traverso Tree Service!

We couldn’t have been more pleased. Steve, the arborist, came out initially to size the job and provide a quote and in the process convinced us that some of the work we had anticipated was not necessary and could actually have been harmful to our oaks. In essence he turned away the opportunity to do more work and charge us for it which was markedly different from the other two companies we got quotes from.
As to the actual, smaller job, Traverso showed up when they said the would, did the work efficiently, kept checking with me to be sure that they hadn’t missed anything and cleaned up well afterwards. They were altogether professional and a pleasure to deal with. I definitely recommend.

From the friendly lady at the office to Scott coming out and sharing his years of experience with us we were totally happy with the service. I quote around a lot and they were reasonable timely and totally professional. Their crew foreman Gerardo keep the crew going and got a big job done in only two days. The piece of mind working with a local company that is bonded and insured and has all the right equipment was priceless. You won’t make a mistake by choosing this company! Great job.

We had 6 trees removed from our property. They did a very skillful job of taking down large birches in a tight spot without damaging any other property. Very professional job and great cleanup afterwards. Exceptional job on stump grinding. I recommend highly.

If I could give Traverso more than 5 stars, I would.
It is a family owned business with honesty, integrity and expertise.
Traverso came to inspect three very large trees. Scott left a very detailed description of what was going on with each tree and did not recommend any tree service at this time. In other words, he took his time to educate me about the trees.
I called and talked to Mary about some minor work and she said the trees didn’t need it at this time.
Though I haven’t met the Traverso’s in person, I know they are good people.
I’m deleting all other tree services in my files and highlighting Traverso.

These folks have some really good points: Reliable communication. Came when they said they would. Efficient and thorough removal of trees. Left the yard cleaner than they found it. Pleasant to deal with.
Less great: I called them specifically to have my yard replanted with fruit trees. The arborist came out and gave us an estimate for said fruit trees and never mentioned that the folks at his company rarely deal with fruit trees and don’t know much about them. This is doubly frustrating because we asked him to advise on our current fruit trees, and he did so (without mentioning that these aren’t trees he knows much about). When we later called out an expert from a tree nursery, we got rather different advice. We only found out about the lack of experience when I asking for advice on which fruit trees grew well in the area (after removing the existing trees) and got an «I don’t know.»
They also had to come out three times for a one-​day job. First time, they didn’t bring the stump grinder. The second time, they didn’t communicate with each other and missed a few stumps. That said, whenever they came out, they always did so within the time window they promised.
So, all in all, things were fine, and it wasn’t a disaster, but go to a nursery if you want to plant trees.

Traverso was excellent. Steve came to make an estimate right after I called. It was less expensive than others for most items (not all), but the project was lower overall. I was able to schedule a convenient time. They made sure I had neighbors’ permission for entry on a borderline, and they got my instructions 100% right. They were careful with removing a large and widespread tree very close to the house, and didn’t cause any damage to the house or to adjacent fencing and other vegetation and trees. The cleanup was thorough. I am fully satisfied. Thank you!

John and his crew are great to work with. We had them remove a 300 year old Valley Oak that had fallen in our yard. John had all of his guys out working on the job. His guys worked quickly to remove the majority of the large tree (including what was on our roof). We will never be able to thank him enough for the work they did. We also use them for smaller tree trimming jobs (too). Honestly, John is an honest man and a great person to visit with when he comes by for bids.

Had them out twice in 2 weeks for emergency work on oak limbs which crashed into our yard and house. They were very responsive-​came out the same day. They worked efficiently and quickly and did a good job of cleanup. Easy to deal with and very flexible.

After all the reviews and a decent quote, I expected a great service. They did a terrible job, hacked at trees. Not at all what the quote said to do. Now I have really awful looking trees. I have them coming out to review the work done. Let’s hope they can remedy it a bit. I’m not sure I understand how this can happen. I honestly could have done a much better job myself but did not have the equipment or agility to climb trees. I see someone else had same experience in 2012. Sounds like exactly what happened to me. 3 guys who hadn’t got a clue and I had to intervene in the end to at least get the job done and prevent it from becoming more of a disaster. I expected someone who would supervise and make precise cuts not stab at branches without any thought as to shaping the trees. Leave jagged branches sticking up. Disappointing to say the least.

Have not used them for any work as such, but had a very honest and friendly bloke come over yesterday and give me advice on a tree issue which may or not become a problem. But I appreciated his knowledge and friendliness, and not trying to b.s. me to get business. No charge for the callout either. So will use them if needed.
