The other reviewers seem to be right on, with describing Zali as being very thorough and informative during the bidding process (although I did do a lot of research ahead of time, so I knew the questions to ask him). Unfortunately, after I signed the contract, I never saw him again until the end of the project. He promised me it would take six days to remove my pool and fill in with dirt. IT TOOK SIX WEEKS. He also promised that his crew would work on my job full time, They did not. The crew were a bunch of yahoos, very unprofessional, sloppy, destructive, didn’t show up or leave on time. I had requested that they cover my concrete decking and the decorative rocks, to prevent dirt and destruction — they did neither. They broke a lot of my brick and concrete and covered the rocks with dirt. I still have mud oozing out of the rocks and all over my driveway, 2 ½ years later.
My pool was fiberglass, so it should have been very simple to remove (as opposed to a concrete pool with tons of rebar). All they had to do was saw it into pieces and put it in a dumpster. They were required to cut out very little concrete decking around the pool. They didn’t have tools at times, so had to use mine, many of which they broke. The foreman was lazy and didn’t hardly help the other guys at all. When it came time to fill in the hole with dirt, a couple of truck loads at a time were dumped in my driveway, then hauled into the back yard using a bobcat. Zali had told me the dirt would be clean — it was actually filled with cans, bottles, concrete chunks, huge rocks, plastic irrigation pieces, pipes, plastic containers and chunks of old sod (basically the crap that was dug out of someone else’s yard). The guys were supposed to remove this trash, before putting the soil into my back yard. The foreman stood around and watched, while I tried to pull out the trash. The other two guys occasionally helped me. (I’m a senior citizen.)
One of the guys did have a lot of fun in the bobcat, as he was doing wheelies on the dirt, and getting overturned in the mud. It took a long time to right the bobcat. The last (and 11^th) truck load of dirt was clay. Who knows where they got that from? How stupid to top off a yard, that was going to be planted, with clay. They filled in the hole higher than we had agreed, only removing a small amount, after Zali showed up. Zali tried to till the clay into the rest of the dirt, but could not (didn’t have proper equipment and the clay was too thick). The cleanup was atrocious, They left mud splattered on my house, my fence and gate. My decorative rocks were layered in dirt/​mud and my driveway was covered with dirt and mud. It was a real mess, during the SIX WEEKS it took them to do the project. And afterwards as well. I feel I was taken advantage of by ZL Construction, because I am a single elderly woman. I had to pay my landscaper over $ 1,000 to remove the top layer of clay, and mix in a special formula to allow the entire dirt area to be planted. My advice — DO NOT USE ZL Construction!

I chose ZL Construction after doing lots of research about pool removals. After talking with Zali I was sure I picked the right company for the job. He walked me thru what was going to happen and gave me a time frame. He took care of everything, even though I pestered him with questions and change orders. In two days they took out that old faded fiberglass pool and removed the concrete decking to my specification. Zali has the hardest working crew I have ever seen. They were friendly and professional. I highly recommend ZL Construction for pool removal and demolition work.

ZL Construction did a great job in the demolition and then filling the pool area with dirt. We had 4 contractors provide us with bids and ZL Construction was very competitive and the only one of the contractors who indicated that they would not bring heavy duty equipment into our driveway and backyard since no matter how they protected the stamped concrete there could still be damage. They indicated the filling of the pool would be done utilizing wheelbarrows filled with dirt by the heavy equipment on the street not on our driveway. After reading other reviews on how there was damage to driveways and pathways from pool demolition companies we thought ZL’s recommendation was exactly what we had considered to be the best way to proceed with this job. Once we checked reviews on all contractors we decided to go with ZL due to the recommendation of no heavy equipment in the driveway and backyard, their competitive bid and their very good reviews.
Once agreement was signed the work was scheduled and the job was completed on time and to our complete satisfaction. Francisco was the project manager and he took care of everything… the permits, insuring the work was progressing on schedule and was being done well, that required inspections by the city were completed and that the area was completely cleaned once the job was finished. In addition to the demolition/​fill in of pool we had ZL demolish a wall that separated an area where the pool equipment had been located and the storage area making the storage area bigger… this was also completed to our satisfaction.
ZL is a very professional company from beginning to end. Zali showed up right away and on time to give us the bid, Francisco managed the project very effectively, Victoria in the office was always available to answer our questions and provided great customer service and the workers did a very good job. Overall, we were surprised on how professional, efficient, customer oriented and thorough ZL Construction was since this has not been our past experience with other contractors.
I would not hesitate to utilize ZL Construction again and will recommend them to others who need demotion work. They indicated they only do demolition work but if they did other construction work I would certainly utilize their service.

We had our pool filled in our backyard. We called, Zali came in and took a look and then got back with a quote, which was very competitive. They scheduled the work, and their man Francisco completed the job in the said time to our complete satisfaction. Francisco took care of everything, including permits and cleaning up the area after completion of work and spent a lot of time in taking care of everything involved. Victoria at the office makes sure customer service is top notch. Coz this time was extremely busy for the family, it was important they handled everything and indeed they did.
Highly recommend these folks for any construction work, esp pool removal. They are very professional about their job, have great insurance cover for their workers, and take care of all paperwork.

Zali from ZL Construction was top notch. He was professional and knowledgeable. When he came to our house he explained very clearly how they would go about removing our pool. It was clear to me that he knew what he was doing. His crew was also top notch. Pepe, Alex, Rafael and the rest (sorry I cannot remember all the names) were excellent. Even though this kind of project is noisy and dusty I really enjoyed having all of them on my property. They were very respectful and helpful. They cleaned up the area at the end of the job. They also completed the job in the time they told me it would take. I would highly recommend ZL Construction for any pool removal job.

ZL were excellent throughout the pool removal process. They were thoroughly professional and did a great job with the work and the permits. Additionally, they handled repeated changes to our request with no complaint, and even took some money off the bill as the scope of work changed slightly.

We recently bought a house where the whole backyard was covered with a pool. We wanted the pool filled. I took three quotes for partial pool removal and Zali’s quote was the best. He came personally and explained everything in detail. Victoria was very helpful from the front office answering all my questions. They took care of everything getting permit, disconnecting pool equipment, removal, fill and compact the soil and the final inspection. The whole job was completed very professionally with no mess at all. I wish all contracting jobs are like this. Highly recommended for pool removal.

Overall the business with ZLC was not bad, they did pretty much what they promised. There was an aftermath that caused me much headache. The top layer of soil that they used has full of small stones, bricks and concrete pieces, and it looks like it was from some construction site. They should have inspected first and leave the better soil on top so that it would be easier to plant grass or something else.

After having a bad experience during the contract-​signing process with another company, we made the decision to go with ZL construction to remove our pool. We knew immediately that switching to ZL was the right decision. Victoria was extremely responsive in answering our questions, both on the phone and via email. Zali was extremely professional and punctual each time he came out to our house (for the initial estimate and then a follow up visit for another project we were looking into). The crew was also very courteous and approachable. The pool was removed on time, and the clean up looks great. We are very happy that we made the decision to go with ZL construction.

We had 5 different companies come to bid on our pool removal in Walnut Creek. ZLC was head and shoulders above the rest. First of all, Zali, showed up professionally dressed and well prepared for the initial consultation. He also was able to provide us a written estimate on the spot, which was immediately followed up with an emailed estimate. His bid was lower than all the other contractors, one of which wouldn’t even bother to walk in the backyard to look at the pool, but quoted us 15% more than ZLC. The crew was done within a week, and left everything looking nice.
I wouldn’t hesitate to use ZLC again, and I wish they did other construction beyond demolition.

He was prompt in his response, punctual, very professional and refreshingly knowledgeable, which is not a surprise with his company doing over 100 pool removals per year. He described the process in details, provided several options and was able to come up with a very reasonable quote on location. He also took extra time to wait for the homeowner and go over everything with him one more time.
While I am not sure whether my clients decide to keep their pool, I would not hesitate to use Zali for my own pool removal, except I don’t have one… and I most definitely not getting one now that I have information about the costs of upkeep With that being said, give Zali a call, you won’t be disappointed!

ZL Construction recently completed a pool removal in our backyard, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. The three guys responsible for demolition, dirt fill and compaction have been with the company for several years and know exactly what they’re doing. Owner Zali was able to find a creative ‘work around’ at one point for a potential problem, and the ‘demo’ was completed on time. Compaction measurements came in above expectations at ’97,’ and final approval by the City Inspector was a breeze!

When our pool removal ran into complications, Zali worked hard to resolve the problem and went several extra yards to make sure we were happy with the final result.

ZL was one of three firms that we requested estimates, etc from for the removal of our pool which was nearing 40 years old. Not only was Zali’s estimate the best of the three, his initial presentation was the most professional. He took the time to explain their procedure, time required and provided a brochure with references, proof o insurance, company history etc. His crew arrived on time on the day selected to start removal of the pool and the project was completed in a timely fashion on the target date. His crew was very professional and worked extremely hard to complete the task.
We had to do nothing other than sit back and watch.

We hired Zali to remove an old run-​down pool when we bought our house. His price was much less than his competitors and his work was perfect. We have our backyard back and couldn’t be happier. Oh, and he has an in with the terrible El Cerrito permitting people and got our permit in a matter of days rather than weeks, which is a miracle! I highly recommend ZL if you need to have a pool removed in the Bay Area.
