This review is for the Lemon Avenue/Schabarum Loop(photos attached). This is about a 3.5 mile loop. There are many choices for entry to start the loop. The most common starting place is Walnut Ranch Park(20101 Amar Road). I personally prefer to start the trail at Smoke Tree place near the two large water tanks. This is what I like to call a fusion trail(half urban/half wilderness). The first half of the loop, the Lemon Ave portion is very urbanized and is part of the Three Oaks Preservation Area, the Schabarum portion of the trail is more wilderness. There are signs everywhere warning of poison oak and dangerous animals. So don’t touch the plants. I myself haven’t seen any dangerous animals the times that I’ve done the trail. I’ve seen rabbits and small lizards. The Lemon Ave portion is very well maintained. There are two parts along the trail that have tables that make great picnic/resting spots. You can get a nice view of the city of Covina. The Schabarum part of the trail is more rocky and is not as well maintained. There is an old abandoned car at the bottom of the quarry here. It is very creepy. I think someone must have drove it off the cliff years ago as there is no other way for that car to have gotten down there. It is full of rocks and the whole thing has been gutted. It looks like its been there since the 1980s. I don’t know the story behind it, if anyone does please message me and let me know as I am curious. This is a good local trail and a good workout. Do the loop twice for that 7 mile cardio burn.

Love this city, have lived here 10+ years and have not explored every trail yet, what? Bf and I started at the teen center, up the road and windy trails all the way towards Grand and Mt. Sac. Very nice hike with a view overlooking Grand Ave that you can see in my pix. Definitely going back, great trail for running and getting cardio, hilly too!

Within the City of Walnut are 30 miles of trails. I have ran or walked probably less than five miles of these trails. The two areas that I frequent most are the trails around the Snow Creek neighborhood, and the trails near the intersection of Meadowpass Road and Pierre Road. The trails are diverse, depending on which trail you go on. The trails near Snow Creek goes around Snow Creek Park and winds through the Snow Creek neighborhood. One trails goes from Snow Creek Park all the way to the back entrance to Mt. SAC. Elite runners practice on these trails, especially the weeks prior to the Mt. SAC Relays. Lot’s of walkers use this trail in the morning. One of my favorite trails when I walk/run with my daughter is near the intersection of Pierre Road and Meadowpass Road. If you come here at the right time, you will see people riding their horses on the trails. One of the trails in this neighborhood leads to the Brookside Equestrian Center where Olympians have trained. They let you walk/hike around the Equestrian Center. Over in this area, you will see Istik Bridge. A bridge in the middle of nowhere. It is so peaceful around here, you wouldn’t know you were lost in the middle of Walnut. There are still 25 miles of trails in and around my city that I have not set foot on yet. If running is not your thing, you can take a hike! There are trails for you to go up the hill to get to the Schabarum Trail. Then there are the trails around the Creekside Park. I’ve heard that these trails are also great for running. Rest areas with picnic tables are available at the hiking areas for you to rest. Refer to the cities website to find out where they are. Make sure you bring the trail map on their website. They have lots of trails. Some of the trails are dead ends, where you will end up in someone’s backyard. Minus one star because of the dead ends trails. The city of Walnut is an ideal place for hiking, running, horseback riding or mountain biking.
