I’ve only set foot in here twice because I usually have their foods at parties when someone orders a huge tray of stuff but lemme just say that their turon(banana and jackfruit fried in a spring roll wrapper) is the best I’ve ever had. I know they sell out quickly so be sure to get there earlier in the day and call for large orders!

Love their fresh warm pan de sal(bread roll) and toron(plantain egg roll with caramelized sugar coating). I also get their empanadas and siopao(meat steam bun) all yummy snacks. Good bakery with good service been coming here for over a decade now.

Came to taste, but had to walk out empty handed. After reading the info on this shop, I was hoping they accept credit cards. I walked in and was pleased to see credit card logos near their cash register, yes! So I started to look around at the breads and saw the popularly recommended turon. Turon is one of my favorite Filipino desserts, an egg roll with banana and jackfruit inside. As I was waiting in line, I asked the young lady if there was a minimum for a credit purchase. She was very soft spoken and was hard to hear her. I had to repeat what I heard to make sure I heard her correctly. There was a minimum of a $ 15 purchase in order to use a credit card. That was such a disappointment because there was no way I was going to purchase $ 15 for little old me. So I returned the the packaged Spanish bread and left behind the hope of leaving with turon. There was one last hope though! They have an ATM machine in the shop, but it was out of service. So my hope died. The shop is very small. They offer many of the popular Filipino desserts and baked goods, such as puto, bibingka, sapin sapin, and much more. There are a variety of Filipino packaged snacks and beverages as well. Oh, in another review, it mentioned that the turon was uncovered with flies. The turon and all of their other food is properly covered with a lid.

Not sure why this bakery shows 4 stars, if only I could give it a zero, I would. Place looks so filthy, staff very unfriendly. Their breads, I bought this Spanish bread one time, so «horrible», doesn’t even taste anything like the real Spanish bread I remember. Their bread with Ube was burned and only had the Ube OUTSIDE the bread, of course. Pandesal just so full of AIR in it. Empanada was hard. I just don’t understand why bakeries like this have the nerves to open up a business like this selling all these bad quality Filipino foods. Will just make you feel bad and frustrated when you are craving for some Filipino foods you miss and then you come to this bakery. Will never buy anything from Kalahi again !!!

We went in advance and ordered 3 dishes for a party that we were attending the following week. We paid in full and was told it would be ready the morning of the party. Fast forward a week later, we stop by to pick up the order and guess what? They had no record of the transaction! They lost the order… WTH!!! Ummm, now we have nothing to bring to the party and are scrambling at the last minute for something. We were extremely upset, as you can imagine. They apologized, but that did us no good. Things happen, I get that, but losing a total paid order is just unacceptable. Be wary when placing a catering order with them. I would consider looking elsewhere for your catering/party needs.

When your mom tells you to give them a good rating, you just do it! I came here for the first time today. The graduate student I’m mentoring and my coworker both said I have to try their turon. They were absolutely correct. This is the best turon I have ever had. The turon is a pretty big size. The wrapper was fried perfectly with the perfect amount of caramelization(?). The wrapper was also nice, thin and crispy. The banana was soft and sweet. Their turon has langka(jackfruit) in it which makes it even better. Other stuff I got… Chicharron: crunchy, not greasy. Yes, I know, how can chicharron be non greasy, well it was, sort of non greasy or as non greasy as a chicharron can get. It was not overly salted also. Ube hopya: I don’t normally like hopia, and I still don’t. I heated it up for a little bit to soften it up and it tasted better. But, I still don’t like hopia. Camote-que: camote on a stick. Camote — yam or sweet potato, I don’t know. It’s good… Nice chunks of camote on a stick with some caramelization on it. Nicely cooked. Melon juice: refreshing! Service: the sales lady was nice to me. I think some people are overly sensitive if the workers don’t immediately shower them with attention. Definitely recommend this place! Support local businesses!

Best turon I have found so far. Their options are different every time I go. It’s a lot of fattening goodness. Sapin-sapin is more tikoy like which I totally love.

The toron(Deep Fried Banana Roll) is soooo good here! They use the premium banana(Yes, there are different types of banana) and it’s worth the $ 0.75 for each piece. They also put lanka(jack fruit) inside the roll. This is what I specifically come for at this location. I can bring this home at night and my grandma would be sleeping, and she’d wake up just to have one of these. It’s sweet, crunchy and just that good! The place small. It’s usually crowded already with only 5 people inside. But other than the toron, they have the Filipino goodies on racks in the front of the store, and the baked/fried goods in the back or front display. The ladies are always nice and quick to get you out so you can enjoy the food! I’ve been coming here for years so i’ll definitely be coming back for more!

There was a time that Kalahi was my go to bakery. I love hot empanadas, turon and many more. the only thing that made me stopped coming to this bakery, is that they asked you to pay cash only. Heavens sakes. We are in America we use debit cards to transact business that is my opinion. One more thing the place is filthy, staff are unfriendly and simangot. overpriced for small empanadas and more.

I will admit, they have one of the best empanadas I have had in awhile. I came here to pick up for Christmas day and they were PACKED. They lose a star because the process was very chaotic – I had placed my order way ahead of time and yet it took me 30 min to reach the register to get my food. There were tons of people taking up space that could have been waiting outside where they had set up a waiting area for people to get their food – VERY frustrating. They also sell some of the best chicharon I’ve had, fresh made. This is definitely a place that is on my list of places to get food from because their empanadas are good, but I will avoid this place like the plague for any major holidays – not worth the wait.

Great place for filipino pastries. Staff is nice. Place is really small that it can barely fit 5 people in line. Their empanadas are always fresh and tasty!

Been here a few times to get Turon. The workers are not friendly and don’t greet you. They just stare at you. The place itself looks pretty filthy, which may be fine if you were in a province in the Philippines, but not acceptable here in the states. There’s plenty of other places to get your Filipino sweets fix, so you can skip this one.

I hate to do this but have to be honest with my fellow Unilocalers. If you value cleanliness and sanitary conditions from somewhere you purchase food for human consumption then this place isn’t one you want to try. The bakery is small and very hot. No air conditioning at all and flies all over the place. Food is kept outside even on the counters and you guessed it… it’s the same stuff you buy. The workers look tired, sweaty and over-worked. I have found hair in the pastries just purchased :-( Sorry Kalahi to leave this review about your bakery. I hope you make speedy corrections to your business before the health department inspects your establishment.

Best turon ever! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Banana and jackfruit taste fresh and sweet. Excellent egg pie. Imagine caramel flan but with scrambled egg texture. The crust was smooth and buttery. Mildly disappointed in the basic as hell cassava cake. I’m accustomed to more coconut in my cassava cakes not to mention condensed milk as a topping. Lastly, they do take debit cards but I’m not sure for credit. I will be back!

I grew up coming to this bakery with my family. We’d always buy hot and fresh pan de sal and buy some empanadas while we were at it. This little bakery is cash only… so make sure you have cash on hand before heading in. There are plenty of Filipino favorites… from chips to candy to dessert… I’m just bummed that they don’t really have hot pan de sal any more. The prices are alright… nothing too expensive. We always get empanadas when we go there… puto(a rice dessert), and egg pie… their turon is pretty good but I like how my mom makes it better haha. Just one of those little bakeries you keep going to.

This is the reason why Filipino food isn’t popular. It’s not good. It is not for everyone. I am a empanada snob, sue me. I was excited about trying Filipino empanadas but there were AWFUL. Hard, too thick masa, DRY, the protein inside had the strangest seasoning, I couldn’t tell from chicken to pork. I am pretty sure the girl gave me empanadas from the day before, because she went to the back to get them instead of using the ones on the outside rack. Is it because i wasn’t Filipino? damn. Service was awful too, half way through the order, she went to the back, and started chatting with someone else about a game they were playing on their phone. Not friendly at all. And it is not a good deal either, 8 mini empanadas, 4 large and one turon $ 22. My friend tried them and did not like them at all either. My other friend warmed it in the microwave which helped the texture. Sorry, I would never come back here for empanadas. This is one of those times I throw myself under the bus and didn’t see it coming. Turon was good, I would only get that if anything. PASS ~ *If you want a good empanada, go to Tito’s Market in El Monte, CA for Argentinian empanadas*

Five stars just for the amazing turon! Pretty much plantain eggrolls. Perfect dessert and I don’t feel as bad eating it because it’s filled with plantains ;) Great for parties; just make sure you order ahead for large orders, holidays, or a special event(Pacquiao fight!). Credit card for purchases of $ 15 or more.

Cash only. I tried their ube hopia and it was very dry all throughout. Threw away the rest. They do have a vast array of Filipino desserts and pastries that I’m sure are probably better than the hopia.

If you’re not Filipino or not from the area, bookmark this place pronto for one reason: Turon.(Pronounced as: two-ron) Turon, also known as lumpiyang saging, is a Filipino snack made of thinly sliced bananas and a slice of jackfruit,… dusted with brown sugar, rolled in a spring roll wrapper and fried.(Wikipedia) Well the ones here don’t have jackfruit but they have seriously perfected the banana-brown sugar-spring roll wrapper ratio. They are fried to perfection! The Filipino ancestors are smiling down at this small hole in the wall bakery. $ 0.75 cents each for these sweet babies. OHANDDONTFORGETTOBRINGCASH!!!
