Great place for our issue. We had a hole in an exhaust pipe in a VW. A dealer would have wanted to replace entire pipes. I don’t know what another muffler chain would have done. But Lou’s in Waltham welded a fitting on, getting the job done in under an hour and for about $ 80. They also spotted another problem and consulted with me on it with no pressure to do extra work. Good vibes from this place. Yes, we made an appointment, which as far as I’m concerned is a plus. I expected to get assisted at a particular time and I was.

Couldn’t say enough about the people at Lou’s and the work that they do. They are sincerely personable, make sure to remember customers, and are HONEST! Never once have I felt like I was being coerced into additional work. The work they do is outstanding and they are extremely accommodating. I’m so thankful that we have a place like Lou’s so close by!

Make Lou’s Custom Exhaust in Waltham your «go to» auto mechanics. Have been using them for a few years now and can honestly say they are THE BEST! Professional, honest, knowledgeable, friendly and so reasonably priced. I had an emergency last week and needed to be somewhere later in the day. My car would not start and had it towed to Lou’s. They put in a new starter and I was on my way within a few hours.

I don’t know why everyone else gave them 5 stars but these people has confused an auto mechanic shop with a heart surgeon office. For everything they ask for an appointment!
I went there to just check if my tires should be replaced or not.
They guy said even for a yes or no answer you should set up an appointment. I said ok, let’s set a time. He gave me a time for 2 days later and said you need to drop the car for whole day. (This is all for a yes or no answer), again I said ok.
Then he said you should drop the car at 8 in the morning! I told him my work starts at 10 and I don’t live in Waltham then he said only 8 in the morning.
Fuck you you arrogant bastard.
All these difficulties for a yes/​no answer?

i was satified the 1^st time i went to get my resonater dont here now went back to this shop 5 months later asked to check my suspension on my saab 93 i already knew what was the problem, wanted a second opinion they said i needed sway bar links front and back as well as sway bar bushings. they quoted me $ 800! parts and labor… i left the shop told them ill get in touch, bought the parts myself at advance auto parts in witch Lou’s told me they dont have them yeah they do just had to order them duh! so got all the parts 2 days later went to a local shop in my town, they only charged me $ 150 labor! and my parts were only $ 100!
i think these guys may be cheap on exhaust work but not for other mechanical work
not nice to take advantage of someone who you think might not know about cars specially woman.

These guys were great. I needed a repair on a cracked exhaust pipe. Hoisted the car, showed me exactly where the problem was, pointed out the miserable state of the entire pipe – they were right, it was a sad rusted mess. Told me they could cut and repair a small section for $ 80 or replace the entire pipe, from the cat exit to entrance of muffler for $ 100. I went back the next day, no hidden fees, very friendly and polite, work done perfectly, $ 100. I will go back there again, have already recommended them to friends. Thanks!!!

I went here after very bad experience at one of the national chain to repair my exhaust pipe that was broken… these guys are very professional and welded the pipe and picked it up next day early in the morning like they said. It was very quick fix and very professional guys. And on top of that they only charge $ 80 unlike the national chain guys said to replace the whole pipe for $ 900. And on top of that they gave me 1 yr warranty.

My rusty muffler broke yesterday and the sound of the engine was giving me a headache. I found Lou’s and they started working on my car after a short waiting period. They showed me the problem and gave me their recommendation and then we settled on a plan. Quick and friendly service would recommend.

About a month ago I had some trouble with my 2010 Nissan Sentra so I brought it to the dealer to see what the issue was. They told me I needed about $ 1,000 worth of muffler work. I decided to get a second opinion. I did a quick search on Unilocal for muffler shops near my job. Up popped Lou’s with a five star rating! They were able to fix my $ 1,000 problem for $ 80. Sounds to good to be true? It’s not… they have a welding technique that can’t be done in the service department at your dealership. They were open, honest and up front. The mechanic took me underneath my car to show me what they needed to do and explained how they would do it. LADIES you will not feel that typical «I know I’m being hustled feeling» that you get at other auto shops, the guys are really nice and they have a nice waiting area. I recently moved up to MA from RI and for a while I couldn’t find a reliable place to repair my car. I brought it to Midas a few times, and although I knew I was probably getting ripped off, the repairs weren’t *too* expensive, so I got them anyways. When my 2003 Mazda MPV started to sound like a lawnmower, I knew it was time for an exhaust repair. Midas told me I’d need an entire new exhaust system and gave me a quote of over $ 2,000.
No way I was paying that. So I searched on Unilocal and found Lou’s. From the moment I walked in, I knew I’d gone to the right place. The guys working there are so friendly and helpful. They actually showed me what was wrong underneath the car and told me exactly what they’d do to repair it without replacing the entire thing. It ended up costing me $ 450. WHAT?! I was ecstatic.
The guys at Lou’s are honest, reliable and hard-​working. I recommend them without reservation.
As a side note, when my boyfriend took me in for the repair, he had a flat tire. Out of curiosity, we asked one of the guys at Lou’s (I forgot his name) if they did tire repairs. They do – they’re a full service shop. He asked to take a look at the tire, and then he plugged it quickly at no cost to us. He wouldn’t even accept a tip no matter how much we insisted.
Won’t find that anywhere else. Best place around.

I needed a flex pipe repair for my 2000 Volvo V40. Volvo dealer cost would have been astronomical, probably well over $ 1,000. An aftermarket part would have cost maybe $ 330 in parts plus the labor to install it. I do 98% of my own vehicle maintenance but I draw the line at fighting an ancient exhaust system while lying on my back with a face full of rust. Lou’s did the job for $ 220 by cutting out the broken flex pipe and welding in a new one together with a new exhaust hanger. Joe in Waltham is a great guy, very friendly and easy to talk to and Lou’s did my repair the same day in a couple of hours. Lou’s did great work fast at a fair price and saved me a bundle. I started writing a whole Saab story about my exhaust, but I decided to delete all that and just get to the point. My whole exhaust system fell to the ground, from the front. I was afraid the repair was going to be more than my 1993 Saab was worth (I bought it for 14 hundred dollars 9 years ago, so you do the math). I talked to the guys at Lou’s and it sounded like they were going to be able to save me some money. So, I had it towed there and I could not be happier with how it all turned out. They repaired it quickly and affordably and didn’t replace things that didn’t need to be replaced. Very friendly service too, which is a bonus! Very happy customer! Thanks, Lou’s! The end.

So here’s my story. I have a 2006 RAV4 that had a hole in the muffler which was growing by the day. I had it patched but the next time I climbed underneath and looked there were two growing holes on either end… sigh. Toyota wanted minimum $ 1,500 to do the exhaust system. Ouch. My local mechanic said he could do it after market for $ 900. Slightly less ouch. Then I found Lou’s on line, read a bunch of good reviews, and decided to see where they would come in price wise.
I made an appointment for a free estimate and brought it in the next morning. Joe put it on the lift and brought me in to explain that my pipes were all sound underneath the thin coating of rust on the outside and that it was only the actual muffler that needed replacing. I paid $ 350 for parts, labor, a ride home to Newton from Emory to wait and another ride back from him in the afternoon to pick up my car — unbelievable! My car sounds great and there’s a one year warranty if anything happens in the meantime.
I couldn’t be happier, and they’re a full service shop to boot! I now have a new mechanic and someone to refer my friends to. Thank you guys!

Last night just as I was going out to a movie, there’s a loud boom and suddenly my 05 corolla sounds like a Harley. Quick inspection showed the exhaust pipe had broken off right at the flange connecting to the muffler. After much cursing, a quick Unilocal search brought up Lou’s.
Lou’s service was fantastic. Called in the morning just after open, Emery was very helpful and got me an appointment for 1 that day. Brought it over (fearing the worst $$$). They took it right in, and after just a few minutes, told me that they could have the whole thing fixed by cutting off that section of pipe, and flange, and doing a weld in of new pipe. For just under a hundred bucks. No fuss, no muss, no upsell or additional services, just friendly straight and highly competent service.

so my car had an exhaust leak and was getting LOUD. my usual mechanic said don’t fix it — it’s expensive and not worth it. next guy said i needed a whole new exhaust from the manifold back — $$$$. other estimates ranged from $ 900 — $ 2700.
enter lou’s. i call and describe the main issue (rusted out flange), and tell emery what other shops told me. he’s like «that’s crazy! bring it in, i bet it won’t be anywhere near that».
i doubt anyone cares about the precise details, but the TL: DR is that they employed some creativity and saved me a lot of money. 100% resolved the issue for $ 250 and an hour in the shop, by fixing what i had instead of just buying all new parts.
couldn’t be nicer guys either. i’m just completely blown away by how great everything went. only complaint is that they’re only open 8 – 5 mon-​fri so i had to take time off work, but for the amount they saved me, it definitely pans out.

I just went to the Roxbury location today after my mechanic found a leak in my rusted-​out back-​cat coupling, and I’m in love. The little garage that sold me my car wanted to charge me over $ 600 to replace the whole exhaust line, $ 125 for a patch (and 3 hours for the patch, because «it won’t fit great at first, so we’ll have to make adjustments»). INSANE, and completely out of line with everything I was desperately googling while I sat in the garage.
My brother recommended Lou’s, and I went over. While I was waiting another customer started waxing poetic about how great they were (a really good sign). In the end, it took 10 minutes and $ 80 for the same patch job (there was no legitimate reason to replace the whole exhaust line, the pipes were fine).
I asked if they would do my taxes, too.

They lost me when they priced me differently just because of the car’s badge. A $ 150+ on a Mercedes Benz c-​class for fitting exhaust tips while they did a friend’s cat-​back for $ 60 on a Honda civic. I ended up taking my business elsewhere for $ 80 including bumper cut-​outs and custom welding to get the exact look I was after. If I had to speculate, that would have been a $ 200 job here… Not to mention that they also refused to do anything to the bumper. It was a simple job, but they saw badges and priced accordingly.

Great shop! Removed my rusting exhaust and installed a new one in under a hour for a great price. I would absolutely recommend!

I have been to Lou’s twice — once a few years ago at their N. Reading location, and again this week at this Waltham location. Both times I was wowed by great service.
At Lou’s Waltham this week, the guys got me in same day, and got me in and out of there in under 20 minutes. I had a noisy (but minor, thankfully) problem with the exhaust on my 2004 Saab, and they fixed it and got me out of there for an absurdly low price. I rarely review businesses, but Lou’s Waltham makes me step up my game. You need to know how good they are, and they deserve the Unilocal love. If you’re having trouble w/​your car, go see these guys.

I recently brought my 2005 Toyota 4Runner Sport v8 in because when I accelerated, there was an annoying ticking noise. I was quoted $ 3k+ at the Toyota dealership and was referred by a friend to Lou’s. The right manifold needed to be replaced, and I also had one of their custom exhausts installed. They fixed it in a timely manor, and the total bill was more than half that of the dealership quote.
Brian lifted my car up and showed my buddy and I exactly what they did. I will definitely bring my truck back here if I encounter any issues, and highly recommend them!
