History

Established in 1955.

S&S Overhead Door is a family owned and operated business that has been serving the suburban Boston area for more than 5 years. In the early 1950’s the company’s founder, Vincent Scalese learned the craft of door repair and installation having worked for a New England based commercial garage door service. With the post-​war housing boom, new construction flourished in the areas west of Boston inspiring Vincent to establish a business that would provide sales, service and installation of residential garage doors and electric operators.

In 1977 Vincent’s son Gary assumed operation of S&S Overhead Door working with Vincent until his retirement in 1985. More than fifty years later Gary and his son, Justin have continued to provide the same quality service that S&S has been known for through three generations.

S&S Overhead Door has been recognized for outstanding service, earning the Super Service Award of Excellence on Ang​ies​list​.com. Quality and integrity are the benchmarks on which S&S

Gary answered my call at 6:30pm on Friday evening when most people would be kicking back. He said he could come by the next day, Saturday, and take a look at our broken garage door. He showed up right when he said he would and he and his son got right to work! (I was anticipating he may only be able to provide an estimate at that time.) Our door was fixed in short order and his charge of $ 100 was very, very reasonable. Gary is an old school guy that believes his customers deserve great work at a very fair price. Look no further and call Gary. I will never consider using anyone else if we need help fixing our garage doors again.

Reliable, precise, skilled, equipped, smart. These are my words for them. When I read the reviews on this company, I was skeptical. I felt the reviews sounded too good to be true. After I’ve met them this Saturday morning, I now know that all the good reviews must be true about these guys. These kind of businesses do not exist anymore…
We have a very old wooden garage door. A major company gave us a quote for $ 2600 to replace it with a steel door. Gary and her son came on Saturday, for a second opinion. He said he would fix my door for $ 90 and it was not possible to install a steel door in my garage, since it is on a slope and there is a 2 inch difference between the two sides of the garage door. If we ever have to change the garage door, we have to pick a wooden one so that they can cut the bottom to fit the slope. Otherwise we would have a 2 inch gap on one side, in the New England weather. If it weren’t for Gary, we would have spent $ 2600 for a door that would not fit.

I had several people out for my, at least, 25 year old garage door’s motors. Everybody but Gary told me I needed new motors and possibly chains, etc. to the tune of several thousands of dollars. Gary fixed it for under a $ 100. This was over a month ago and it is still working. He is a rarity these days, honest and capable. I will use no one else!

I highly recommend S&S Overhead Door Company. After reading the reviews on Unilocal,I called and thankfully Gary was able to squeeze us in a few days later. He arrived and was professional, quick to identify the problem, and returned a few days later with the materials to repair our broken garage door. His original estimate was between $ 350 – 400, and he ended up charging us the lesser amount of $ 350 (when has that ever happened!!!). We started the week with a broken garage door and ended the week with one that worked again… very grateful to Gary and his sons for being professional, responsive, fast and honorable!

Don’t hesitate to hire this father and son team. I hired them based on Unilocal reviews. They were great. Showed up on time. Fixed what was broken. Replaced burnt out bulbs, hooked up our cars to open the doors without the remotes and installed a keyless keypad for our new home. And all for a little over $ 200. I would definitely hire them again!

these guys are as good as their reviews. They took one look at three ancient and malfunctioning garage doors, gave us an estimate and said we can do it right now!
In little more than half an hour all three doors were fixed, the remote worked and the low price they quoted was exactly the same. Don’t use anyone else.

The bottom of my wooden garage door was rotting out. Gary was able to make an exact replacement of the whole bottom panel and install it. The charge was $ 452 which is amazing considering the woodwork and labor involved. Communication was very good and I would highly recommend.

I’ll add to the rave reviews and echo the themes of responsiveness and trust. The spring on my garage door had broken and while my husband thought he could replace it, I figured it would be quicker and safer to hire someone who has repaired lots of garage doors. I left a message on the S&S website and received a phone call by the end of the day. We set up a time for the fix and Gary arrived early. About twenty minutes later the spring was fixed and the door was oiled for a fair fee. It’s a lot easier to keep up with the hassles of household maintenance with help from dependable companies like the S&S family business.

We had someone work 2 days on our garage door finally saying we need a whole new door since the door we have (all wood) is too heavy for the opener. This is the original door — about 60 years old. We just didn’t think that was right. Called S&S, they came the next day, fixed and charged $ 100. Couldn’t have been more pleased. Thank you S&S!

Love this family-​owned business! Gary (the dad), came out (without charging a fee) to give me a quote to fix two garage doors, and his quote was reasonable and he explained the costs. he and his son came back the next week and within an hour they had both of my garage doors working perfectly.
I had a quote that was twice what S&S charged — I am SO glad I found this company! Highly recommend them…

We called a door company, which I will leave unnamed, initially to take a look at our 80 year old garage which is falling apart. We just wanted door openers to get us a few more years out of the garage, but he tried to sell us $ 3000 worth of work, including major remodeling of the garage, despite my telling him we just wanted to spend as little as possible given the poor state of the garage. So, to get a second opinion, we called S&S.
Unlike the first guy, they were extremely responsive to our request to keep costs low, and while installing the door openers for less than the other guy, didn’t try to sell us on a bunch of other stuff. In fact, they did their best to fix what they could in our old garage and didn’t charge us other than nominal parts costs.
The company is a father and son team, and they were great to work with. We are very happy we found them; small, responsive and honest outfits like these are local gems. They deserve your business, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
