With over 10 years of customer service experience I’m never really surprised anymore. So I walk in for an inspection sticker and the lady at the front desk says «the machines broken it’ll be fixed later today» so I said I have to be back at work by two o’clock do you think I’ll make it? and she says «I don’t have a crystal ball I can’t predict the future». So I leave and like a fool I go in the next day and they failed me for inspection because my rear plate was light in color. Quick to take my thirty five dollars lol as the inspection guy is circling my car outside and can clearly see my plates, fails to tell me hey this isn’t going to pass. He still brings it in the garage. No electric or mechanical problems just a rear faded plate. I complained and the guy got loud with me and called me a «welfare case» because I was complaining about 35 dollars. I’ll never go back there again the service is terrible and know one knows about cars there. To the terribly rude lady at the front desk to the heavy set guy with the beard who by the way isn’t a mechanic I believe, this place is filled with bozos and if your not familiar with cars they will screw you with horrible deals and treat you like they don’t want to be bothered. Your business is not appreciated there just a bunch of non professionals with attitudes.

Stay away from here. These guys are a bunch of cheats. I got new tires and all of my TPMS (measures tire pressure) monitors were fine before bringing my car in. Then all of a sudden I need to pay $ 70 for a new TPMS monitor because it broke. This has happened to me twice already. I’m angry that I fell for their scam the second time around. I won’t be coming back here again.

Not real happy with my experience. I called about repairing a tire with a nail in it. I waited for 45 mins before I was told that the tire couldn’t be repaired bc it was lodged in the side wall And that they didn’t have a replacement tire.
I would have been much more awesome if they had told me that sidewall nails can’t be fixed over the phone :)

Great service, good prices! I had oil change for my car here. Service took them 10 – 15 minutes. I will definitely be back

I have been having a lot of vibration in my tires for a few months and decided that I needed the tires balanced and rotated. I called up Tom Lyons and asked the person over the phone about the services they offer and a price quote. They took the time to make sure that they gave me the correct quote and also alert me that this was a first come first serve appointment.
I arrived at 7:25am on Saturday and was the first person in line. Paul took down all of my information and asked me very specific questions to make sure that the work they were performing was the work I needed for my car. I think women in general tend to get nervous that they may be taken for a ride if they do not know anything about cars, but you will never feel this way here at Tom Lyons. After I handed Paul my keys they took my car in right away and I went to wait in the customer area. The area to wait in it great, they offer magazines the current newspaper and have a TV. They also offer free wifi and K-​cup coffee while you wait. Around 7:45am the place started to fill up and the wait became longer. I overheard the guy at the counter say that they really start to get busy around 8:00am, so make sure you arrive before 8:00am on the weekend if you want to be in and out.
At 8:40am my car was done and Tim called me to the front. He went over all of the work with me and showed me how unbalanced my tires were with the reading from the mechanic. I was thrilled that my actual bill was less than was I was quoted for, when does that ever happen!!!
Once I got into my car and drove it off of the lot I could tell that it was already 100% better. Over the weekend I took it on the highway and all of the past problems I was having went away. I will be back to Tom Lyons when I need my car serviced, they were super friendly, convenient and honest.

I went to Tom Lyons for 4 new run-​flat tires for my BMW. The cost was almost $ 1400, they gave me a ride to work (2 miles away) but wouldn’t pick me up. When I did pickup my car I asked for the DOT registration card so I could register my tires (needed for the warranty) — «we don’t have any of those cards» I was told. The man then went to see if he could get one off the computer, couldn’t and then said «well all you need is the serial numbers of the tires and then go online and register them». Then he looked at me as though he expected me to a) know how to find out myself what the serial numbers are, and b) go out and get them myself. After telling him I didn’t know how to find the serial numbers he begrudgingly went out with me and wrote them down for me. Then I asked him what went wrong with the tire that went flat and he said «I don’t know, I don’t go back there very much» REALLY??? $ 1400 and you can’t tell me why I had a flat to begin with???
Then I took my car for a ride on the highway, all was fine until I went over 60MPH then my car started to shake. UNBELIEVABLE that any tire dealer today would take a BMW in, and balance the tires for only 60MPH! I had to go back the next morning and they did the high speed balance but made-​out like it was really something special that they did for me. No «I’m sorry that you had to come back for this», I was late for work and the whole ordeal wasn’t a good one.

I went to Tom Lyons about 4 years ago to get new tires based on a recommendation from a coworker at the time. My experience was very positive. Not only were they quick and efficient, they also got me a great deal.
Last week I called them because I needed new tires. Even though I do not work/​live close to the shop anymore, I remembered the great service and price. They looked me up in the computer, found me comparable tires to the ones I got before (which were now discontinued), and gave me a great quote. Also, they suggested I get there when they open to avoid waiting (it is first-​come-​first-​serve there).
I went at 7:30AM on a Saturday and I was driving home with new tires by 8:30AM. They were quick, friendly, polite, and, again, I got an amazing deal (four Firestone tires, plus mounting, tire disposal, etc. for less than $ 500). I couldn’t recommend this place more!

Total Lack of Professionalism
For $ 35, a lazy mechanic who failed an inspection for a falling washer jet he did not want to repair and a lady with no manners, they just lost a customer.
Piece of advice: if you are not willing to serve on Saturdays because it may take after the closing hour, just don’t open the shop!
Definitively, I don’t recommend this place. Even 1 star is still overrating.

I’ve been going to Tom Lyons Tire in Waltham for ~ 7 years now and, in short, I’ll keep going back to these guys when I need new tires for my car. I first went to them because they were the only place I could find in the Boston area that carried Nokian winter tires, which several friends of mine were suggesting I try on the car I was driving at the time.
Since then, I’ve gone back for winter tires on a company car that I drove and, just last week, on my new (actually, ~ 1 year old) car. I’ve also coordinated for my wife to get her winter tires for her new car from Tom Lyons.
The staff there has always been helpful, but I have to say that Tim, the representative I worked with this time, went above and beyond to make sure to get me the tires I wanted and the best price possible. The team there worked fast and kept me on my schedule so that, as promised, I was able to bring my car in at 08:00 and drive it out at 10:00 with new tires and a fresh four wheel alignment.
I’m a fan and I think that, if you work with this guys just once, you’ll be a fan, too.

I have been taking my 2007 Honda Fit for service at Tom Lyons for eight years now. They are always friendly, courteous, and respectful. Prior to my Honda Fit, I used to bring my in 1997 Honda Civic for maintenance.
At least two times, they have gone above and beyond. A couple of years ago, I drove over a speed bump at work, like I always do, but something went awry! I heard an awful scrapping sound. I drove the short distance to Tom Lyons and they quickly looked at it and diagnosed the problem. It was a pan of sorts that got knocked loose. They removed it and told me that it wasn’t necessary to replace it at that time; the next time I brought it in for maintenance, they could do it.
Then, this past week, my poor Fit stalled while I was stopped at a set of lights. The Fit had been having electrical issues for over a year. When I brought it to a local Honda dealership for a recent recall, I asked them to check on it. The car’s RPMs were getting very low when the car was idle. They said there was nothing wrong with it.
Well, the nice folks at Tom Lyons broke it to me: there really *wasn’t* anything wrong with the Fit. It has a very small battery and it doesn’t take much to drain it. Despite the car’s age, I only have about 50,000 miles on it and am driving with the original battery. The gentleman I spoke to said changing the battery might help, but he wasn’t sure. Another option was replacing the alternator, but again, he wasn’t 100% that is was necessary. I ended up asking for them to replace the battery.
So far, the car feels brand new! It’s get up and go has returned! Fingers crossed!
P. S. They also have a nice waiting area with a Keurig coffee machine and various magazines.

This review is based off service (oil change) — I did not come here for tires.
They have a nice waiting area if you can’t drop off your car and pick it up later. Kcup cofffee, various magazines, abundant seats, and the smell of tires. Not too bad.
Service for an oil change took about an hour, so pretty normal. Pricing is also standard — I was able to use a coupon that was sent to new residents without an issue (I mentioned it ahead of time during my booking). Paid a little bit out of pocket since my Jetta has 6 quarts of oil, and the voucher only covered 5. However, the only thing that really bothered me is that they forgot to reset my service light after the change. They also gave me a sticker for 3,000 miles to come back. Seems like they don’t really know much about my car, which would be more understandable for a tiny mom and pop shop, but this place looks a bit fancier than that, so I’m a bit disappointed in the end result.

Lyons Tires helped us in a time of need. Friday the 13^th @5:00pm when we were on our way to upstate NY from Boston and a bolt punctured our tire. The gas station we pulled over at recommended Lyons as his garage closes at 5pm.
Lyon’s was open, had the new tire waiting for us, a wonderfully clean bathroom, and a biscuit for our dog. They got us back on the road, safe and sound within half an hour.

I had my truck towed in on a Saturday because I blew a brake line. They told me that it could be fixes on the same day. They then called me to inform me that the mechanic was scheduled to go home at 12:00 and that they didn’t think they could finish the job. I told the manager that this was unacceptable since I lived about 45 miles away. He told me he would see if he could get the mechanic to stay and finish. Then, while in the process of bleeding the brakes, they blew the front brake lines. He told me they would try to finish it by four, but it didn’t look good. I said that I could get a ride home and he said that they truck would be finished on Monday morning. I called them at 11:30 on Monday morning and was told the truck would be done in an hour give or take. I gave them another hour and traveled here from an hour away. I called them immediately got an attitude from the guy on the phone saying that he told me he would call me when it was done. Now my daughter has to go to daycare and they have has the truck for the entire day. This place sucks.

Had 4 new tires installed on my 2009 Honda Fit. The tire size, 185/​55R16, was harder to find, but they actually had more and better selections of tires. Fine job they did. Fast in and out in less than an hour.
Dan was very responsive, courteous, helpful and informative. Great experience overall.

I’ve been back a couple of times since they are a seller of Nokian brand and have seen them remodel their waiting area. Overall they’re a little better now, of course I’m limiting my interactions to tire related items.
Tire prices are competitive and remain so.

Quick in and out, no upselling. Very cordial.

Used Tom Lyons several times for various services and had mostly negative experiences. When I received a coupon in the mail for a free oil change and went it to redeem it, they seemed visibly annoyed when I passed on paying for any additional services on that visit. I understand the idea of sending out those coupons is to generate more business but the reaction was a little too «in your face» from the guy at the desk.
On a separate visit for a minor repair, I was told that I needed about $ 2000 in additional repairs for several problems on the car. I mention this incident because I have since taken the car to two other reliable mechanics and had them do full inspections on the car and neither of them found ANYTHING that needed to be addressed. Seems to be that all too common scenario at the mechanic when they find a hundred things wrong with your car even though you just had the entire thing rebuilt.
I will say that I had several routine repairs and services done without incident and usually with adequate explanations from the service techs but the above experiences stuck with me more and left a bad taste in my mouth.

I recently needed to repair a flat tire on Heather’s car «Max.» Thanks for the help, Unilocal.You successfully scared away from the Waltham NTB, and steered me Tom Lyons Tire Center.
I had a very positive experience at Lyons. I called at 5:50 to see if I could bring the car in. No problem, bring it over now, we’re open til 7pm. I was in and out in under an hour, flat fixed. They have a decent waiting area with a TV and Keurig coffee machine, which helped while away the 45 minutes. The staff were all very friendly and professional.
More importantly (for an auto repair place): quoted work and cost weren’t an issue. They quoted me $ 22.50 on the phone to fix a flat. The manager asked if I had used Fix-​a-​Flat in the tire. Since I had, and the car has tire pressure monitoring, it required a bit of extra labor to clean out the sealant and ensure the TPMS sensors weren’t clogged. Grand total: $ 27. So, $ 5 extra for that. Not «sorry, sir, you need a new tire and we’ll have to replace the sensors, that’ll be $ 279.»
That’s the kind of straight-​dealing and customer-​service oriented shop that makes people write good reviews and become long-​time customers. I will definitely use Lyons again.

I’m surprised David S. got such great service from them 2 yrs ago — but perhaps it’s because he’s a man and I’m a woman. Or maybe the people 2 yrs ago were better than the group now.
The place is large and appears to be organized (meaning, they use those little baggy things to hold all of your paperwork and files) — But that’s where the good things stop. One would think that some place that looks good would extrapolate to the quality of the team. Not so at all. At least not for the dude who didn’t help me at all, and not for the indifferent others.
The guy couldn’t give me an estimate on a simple bulb change, couldn’t tell me how long it’d take for them to take a look at my car (though he knew exactly how many people were ahead of me), and just kept saying, «I gotta look it up on the computer» but yet he was constantly on it — doing other things, looking up random other stuff for no one else! He didn’t seem new to the business — why didn’t he remember the range of typical prices for a simple bulb change?
Thank god I only wasted 1 hour waiting for them to tell me nothing and charge nothing with no further damage to my car. I pulled my car out of there after running out of patience and will never be back.
