3 R Service

My experience with 3 R Services (of Walton, KY) was by far the worst I’ve ever had with any company. They were recommended to me by my plumber and I used them for a water damage restoration project in my basement. Throughout that project I was repeatedly mistreated, lied to, and even threatened by them.
The first example of this was after I requested a quote for for cost of repainting my basement rooms where the drywall had been replaced (since I was considering doing that labor myself to cut costs). I was given a verbal quote of $ 300, which they described as the «insurance rate». I let them perform that work rather then using my own labor due to the inexpensive rate. However, after they were done they gave me a written bill which included $ 1163 on painting alone. Since I had nothing in writing for their prior quote, I had no recourse but to pay them their inflated price.
3 R also tried to talk me into what sounded like insurance fraud. My insurance company had estimated that the build-​back would cost $ 900, but 3 R wanted me to send a bill to my insurance company for $ 2400 for that work, but only pay 3 R $ 1600 and keep the difference. I refused, as this seemed — to say the least — a little shady. The 3 R representative, began getting angry and threatening me throughout this phone call. Shortly afterwards my claims adjuster contacted me and told me that the 3 R representative had spoken with her and accused me of defrauding the insurance company on the carpet installation, carpeting my entire house even though they were only liable for the basement. While it’s true that I did recently purchase carpeting for my whole house, it was paid for out of my own pocket with less than half of it supplemented by the basement flooring replacement check from my insurance company (an amount which was calculated by the insurance company). I can only assume 3 R made this accusation to attempt to discredit me if I were to complain about their behavior. As a side note, during his threats the 3 R representative mentioned that this conversation was being recorded; if that wasn’t just bluster, then his threats and efforts to engage in possible insurance fraud should be documented somewhere in an audio recording.
Lastly, from the first phone call to 3 R they told me they would handle communication and billing with my insurance company, which was a big selling point for me since I don’t have time to contact them during the workday. After the project was done, 3 R gave me 2 bills for their work (one for restoration and one for build-​back), but they only gave my insurance the one restoration bill. My insurance company gave me a check for the exact price of the billed restoration, and a separate check for all the other estimated expenses including build-​back and carpeting. The build-​back portion of that check was less than half of what 3 R had billed me. I told 3 R about the problem and that they needed to get the full build-​back bill to my insurance company so they could send me the difference to pay them with. Weeks later I got a call out of the blue from 3 R demanding I pay them that very day, or else they threatened ***they would put a lien on my house***. I immediately called my insurance company and learned that they had still never received the bill for the build-​back from 3 R. I had to leave work early to rush home and scan a copy of the bill and email it to them, 15 minutes later my insurance adjuster agreed to cut me a check to cover the bill, so I paid 3 R what they had demanded.
I’ve never been treated this badly by any company, it goes beyond a customer service problem to incompetent and possibly criminal conduct. I can only recommend that others avoid repeating my mistakes and not trust any verbal quote or promise from 3 R Services and at least get everything they tell you in writing before considering using them for a project.
