Tragar Fuel Oil Co

I signed a contract with it in January. There are double charge of $ 96.86 (on two consecutive days). When my tank ran almost dry, I ordered the oil myself from another company. Granted that Tragar said they don’t know how my usage would be during the first month — but they do know my tank size and nearly a month has gone by, during heavy snow in the area. When they learned that I’ve order oil elsewhere, the manager said, «I’ll cancel your contract then.» It’s been more than two months, neither the double charge nor the contract have been refunded.
The double charge: manager explained that he sent special delivery twice which has $ 45 surcharge, plus 20 gallon of oil. He said that he didn’t know when the regular delivery truck would come. It didn’t make much sense: he should know when his truck would be delivering which was the next day.
Update: they refunded me the contract plus two special delivery surcharges (the double charge). I emailed them to say one refund’s necessary, not both but no reply. Guess case’s closed we both move on.

Its 1 AM and for third time this winter I have a service guy here dropping 20 gallons of oil because my tank ran dry. Three times in less than 5 months. We are on auto drop. As soon as our contract is up we are going somewhere else. I’d avoid this company like the plague. The only reason it gets one star is because Unilocal doesn’t allow anything lower.
UPDATE– A GM called me. He apologized and gave a free one year service contract. Assured me that the computer was adjusted and we shouldn’t have the issue with running out of oil. Also dropped the price per gallon significantly. Fingers crossed but this is the right way a business should respond when they screw up.

We were once contract customers with Tragar but with oil prices sky high over the last few years, we became COD customers, utilizing companies who compete for your business by offering the best price on oil per gallon. Today I called Tragar to inquire if they could service and repair our furnace. I was repeatedly told that we haven’t been a customer since 2009 and they only service «their customers». Not a problem except that she could have kindly stated that they do not service burners without a contract. A «customer» is anyone who is paying for a service… I would never recommend becoming one of «their customers». Nasty Customer Service.

Since we’ve purchased our home (in 2002) Tragar has been servicing and delivering our oil. We’ve never had a problem with them. In fact they’ve worked with us on many occasions to save us money, instead of taking more of it. Like many Long Islanders we were affected by Hurricane Sandy. It was now the time to replace our existing system. The trust we’ve established with Tragar over the years made them our only call. We’ve now increased our home to three zones. We have a water heater large enough that we can have both showers and the dishwasher running without having anyone screaming. Hands down I would recommend Tragar to any of my neighbors.
