Parks Moving & Storage

We recently moved from Beaver to Annandale, Va. Park Moving was the company we used to move us. The move was virtually stress free. Gary was Park’s sales rep for our move and he was wonderful. He went over everything with us, gave all details of the move, checked on us while we packed our belongings, gave us extra boxes, came to the house the day we moved and even brought doughnuts, what a nice touch. The men that packed the truck Paul, Larry Jay and Jake were outstanding. They were very careful with our sold house, our furniture and all our packed belongings. In Virginia our belongings arrived when Paul said they would. The men who unloaded the truck were Paul, Larry, Robert and Donte. These men worked nonstop, were very careful with everything, and did anything you asked of them. All in all we could not have had a better experience than with Park Moving and would highly recommend them for any move you might have. Thank you all for being a great group of people to work with and going the extra mile in protecting our furniture and belongings and absolutely no damage.

They were the survey company for my mover and the survey person was rude. He also did not complete the survey. He never told me that he could not complete it, so I was left out in the cold. I am furious.

Just say no. We have moved multiple times. Sadly, experience has taught us to have low expectations of movers. The packers from Parks beat them all. in a bad way. The packing was just irresponsible. Lazy. We found broken glass pieces and shards in our dining room after the packers left! Sure enough, when I unpacked one of the boxes with stemware, a wine glass was nicely cradled in paper. in two separate pieces, thanks to a broken and mostly absent stem. They weren’t even pretending to be attached, they were packed at different angles. Then there are the (unrelated) pieces of broken glass and glass shards that were packed in a wad of paper. I haven’t found what they come from yet, but thank goodness I opened up that paper in a way that ended up being safe! Books were packed so they bent back in themselves. Plus various things are squished because they were packed too tightly, files were bent because they didn’t bother shoring up boxes with packing paper when the contents didn’t fill them, fragile items like framed mirrors were packed at angles to hard objects without any wrapping, they packed battery-​operated soap dispensers without asking about turning them off so they dispensed liquid soap all over their box. we did find those before the move, because the dispensing action made a noise in the box that the movers couldn’t have helped hearing but ignored.
And then there are the things we can’t find.
We haven’t gone through the claims process yet. This is an international move that is being coordinated by another company, so here’s hoping that part will go better.
As the other reviewer said, the guy who came to inventory our place for an estimate was professional and knowledgeable. They clearly don’t invest in training or motivating the people who do the actual moves.

Simply said, look elsewhere.
The front man who comes to your home and does an estimate of the move is very professional and charming. The company actually charges about four cents less than competitors for every 100 pounds of material moved, so their prices are competitive. That’s where the good part ends.
The moving coordinator emailed me about one week prior to the move that she would contact me the day before the move to go through all the particulars (e.g., what time to expect the crew, what we would need to do, etc.). That day arrived and I had not heard from her by 2:00 p.m., so I called her. She gave me all of the particulars, as promised. The crew would show up at my home between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., load all of my belongings, take apart the beds and put mattress covers on (which we provided), and then leave for our new home.
The crew showed up at 10:30 a.m. Within an hour, they broke several glass items in a box from my child’s bedroom, which was clearly labeled fragile. The items broke because the moving man tried to carry three boxes at one time down a flight of steps. One of the crew also did not want to put a mattress cover on our pillow-​top mattress, so my wife and I did it ourselves before they loaded the mattress onto the truck. The crew informed me near the end of the packing process that the moving specialist had told them that the move would be local. It had become apparent in talking to me that they had a two-​hour drive ahead of them to our new place.
The crew arrived at our new home at 6:10 p.m. All the items were delivered by 9:10 p.m. In the course of the delivery, one of the crew members informed us that the hutch from my daughter’s desk had not survived the trip. He apologized and informed us that we could file a claim to have it replaced. The next morning, when I began to set up our futon in our new living room, I noticed that one of the boards in the frame was cracked in half. I took photos to document it and sent them to the moving specialist. The claims person informed me the following day that I could not repair or discard the items being claimed. So now I have an unusable futon taking up one-​third of my living room space.
Given my experience, I can hardly recommend the company. The problems we encountered seem to lie in a lack of coordination between the moving coordinator and the moving crew and the crew’s simple desire to get the job done quickly.
