Fresh off the plane and this place did not disappoint. Good portions, fresh food and great service.

I call it ” hole in a wall” because of where it’s located, good food specially their fish en chips and crap cakes. I wish they change their working hours and stay little bit late on weekends.

This place is awesome! Coming from Chicago they all made me feel like I was from the neighborhood. Open arms and they had me try their custom hot dog that was out of this world good! I also had their fish and chips and it tasted better than I have ever had. I wish I could take a part of this place back home with me! Thank you to everyone there, it was a pleasure dining with you and your hospitality was such a great experience!

Really excellent clam chowder. Friendly, attentive service. The only thing that disappointed me somewhat is the fish. I had the fish fry lunch and the fish itself was really good. The breading was light and crisp. I just wanted some seasoning in the batter. It was really quite bland. That’s my only complaint, but it was significant enough to keep me from leaving five stars.

Small little restaurant, seems like mostly locals come here which is always a good sign. We got fish and chips and a lobster roll. Portions were a bit small but food was very good. The only other complaint is the fish was slightly greasy but it was crispy and tasted great.

Nice neighborhood place. Good portions, fresh food and clean inside. The bread was nice and hearty, which you normal don’t see in a place like this, so that was a nice surprise. My only complaint was that the food needed a little more seasoning. Definitely needed sale and pepper for the home fries(which were real chopped potatoes!) And the corn beef hash(homemade as well!) Needed a little more moisture in it, added fat really. But will be back, nice place to add to the local breakfast rotation.

Located in the middle of a strip mall, this place doesn’t look like much upon first glance. Strip mall restaurants are usually not very good, but this place proved that you can’t judge a book by its cover. The menu was full of feel-good, comfort food — e.g., meatloaf sandwiches with gravy, burgers and fries, etc. I ordered the chicken salad with mixed greens(huge portion) and the large, hella greasy onion rings to share with my group(meaning, I ate most of them while others picked at a couple of onion rings here and there… whatever, enjoy your food without guilt!) My only qualm is that they were slow in wrapping up our to-go lunch order, but I can’t fault them for that(it was a busy lunch rush!), and it certainly wouldn’t deter me from returning if I were in the area.

Hands down the best New England restaurant I have ever been to! Would give 6 stars if I could. Everything we had(clam chowder, hot wieners, fish and chips) was amazing. Friendly staff really took care of us and made us feel at home! Can’t wait to come back!

A quaint little pace in the buttonwoods plaza. There are only 12 tables, many of the locals either dine in or take out. Two chalk boards are on display showing the daily specials. I ordered a cup if the red chowder, I should have ordered the bowl. The chowder had a great balance of potatoes and clams. The clam cakes were not just dough, but had a great flavor and plenty of clams throughout which now a days is a rarity. A must eat for sure!

I just love little hole in the wall eateries. While visiting Rhode Island I was really craving fish & chips. So I googled places in Warwick and this place came up. After checking reviews, I decided to give it a try, mainly because it was only 5 minutes away! Ordered fish & chips and onion rings. The wait was long(45 minutes). When I got there service was slow and they hadn’t made the onion rings yet. The place was slammed… not an empty seat around. Small & crowded, glad it ordered takeout! Fish & Chips were generous with a light batter and homemade fries. Pretty good. Little container of overly mayo’d cole slaw I could do without. Onion rings were AWESOME! I was quite happy with my dinner and would definitely go back again… hmmmm, maybe in a couple days before I head back to Florida!!!

This place was on time! Friends tried to talk me in to going to a chain restaurant but some of us chose Buttonwoods… good thing we did! Great fish and chips, great clams, and fantastic onion rings! I will certainly go back if I’m ever in the area again

Went For lunch, they where out of the menu item I came for so I went with 2 all the way and a lunch portion of fish and chips … «I know being a Fatty!» Wieners were just ok edible but could have been much hotter. Fish and Chips where great Super fresh fish, crisp lite batter and hand cut fries for $ 7.95 you can’t go wrong!

I grew up eating Buttonwoods Fish and Chip dinners throughout my childhood. It became a staple on Friday nights in the season of Lent. As a child I can remember coming here and standing in line for our take out. The fish and chips used to be served wrapped in newspaper; a UK tradition. I had no idea the newspaper was something that was special to me until they started using styrofoam take out containers. I’m sure it’s something to do with a health code — blah, blah, blah. I say bring back the newspaper. It’s a UK tradition! Newspaper won’t kill you people … but there are many other things that will! Back to the review. While in the area today I HAD to have it and I’m so glad I did. The fish tasted fresh, battered and cooked just the way I like it. The chips(french fries), and cole slaw were also delish. The prices here are extremely reasonable $ 19.90 for TWO fish and chip dinners. The décor is casual and homey. It is still a very small family owned establishment. It’s location is off a main road in a neighborhood that can easily be missed. There is very little room on busy nights so be prepared to rub elbows and meet your neighbor while waiting! This place definitely attracts the locals and early birds. They serve much more than fish and chips but I have never actually made it here for any other meal. Maybe someday I will make it here to try out breakfast or lunch! Great place tucked away off the main drag of West Shore Rd — but very easy to get to. Very good fish and chips — fish was really fresh and cooked perfectly. We went at lunchtime and could have had a lunch portion or dinner portion… yup got the dinner portion! Only $ 8.95 or so and it included the fish, chips and coleslaw. Minor deductions for wayyy too much mayo on the coleslaw(seriously I like mayo, but this was overkill!) and the fries were just a bit undercooked. But minor stuff. Good value, good food. We went back for breakfast today and yowza! get there early(they open at 6:30am) or be prepared to wait. Small, charming dining area… but SMALL. Good basic menu with some specials up on the board(I saw a lot of fruit-based options). We stuck with the basics and it was good. Eggs, crispy bacon, yummy homemade hash, rye toast and lots of coffee. Good local place — we’ll be back often!

More than just fish & chips Buttonwoods Fish & Chips is one of the many small, local fish and places in the area. Sort of quietly tucked away from the road, it’s very popular with local folks. The interior is very casual with a bunch of tables, the menus plastered on the walls and a take out counter. I suspect a lot of their business is take out and that’s why they the menus are so obvious. Not the aesthetic way of doing things but very practical and convenient. The food here is pretty simple and typical Rhode Island. Large portions and nothing fancy or complicated. If you order the fish & chips you will get a big plate of fries and fish. If you want the seafood platter you get shrimp, fish, clams, scallops and fries. The food is always consistent and you always know exactly what you are getting. They make so many of the same things that they do it quickly and competently. Fish & Chips is also a very popular place to go for breakfast. Lots of different egg and omelet dishes as well as pancakes and other customary morning eatables. Again, very consistent, filling and with no surprises. Certainly not the place for the Epicurean connoisseur or supercilious trencherman. All you get here is lots of good food and a consistently good price.
