AARP

I am not writing regarding retirement homes. I am writing about auto insurance from the Hartford. I will condense this because the larger complaint goes to the FTC. After a rocky start in early 2014, we got on the right page. I had debited payments to make sure I never missed a payment etc.,
In July 2015 in the process of moving to the DC area, I over draw and Hartford did not get the payment then. I was not concerned when I went to the website and saw a zero balance. oh great they got paid. Not. How I found out, they cancelled me. I am driving around with these bad driving.folks. Long story short it cost me a bundle to get new insurance and I cannot cancel the AARP membership until 2016. My issue is where is the customer service. An email or call would have taken care of the issue, Make sure you ask about cancellation policies regarding returned checks.
I am beginning to read and ask questions before I do anything.
Customer service is lacking everywhere.

I work for a doctor now, and I have heard some patients complaining about this company. Patients, who have Medicare, buy supplemental plans from AARP. They pay high premiums, thinking that AARP would take care of whatever is not paid by Medicare. Unfortunately, for the AARP supplemental plan, patients have to satisfy the high deductible before the plan pays for anything. So, if you are not planning to have many surgeries per year, don’t bother buying their supplemental plans.
I often have to call them to verify claim status. The experiences are not very good.
1.) One staff gave me the wrong fax numbers.
2.) One staff asked for my full name (even though other staffs at AARP do not do so). I asked this particular staff if she could provide me her full name (since she asked for mine), and she refused to do that.
Sigh. There’s room for improvements.

AARP INC, formerly the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS changed name officially 1999 to reflect that its focus was no longer American retirees. AARP has two affiliated organizations: AARP Services Inc. which is managed wholly for profit, and the AARP Foundation, a charity that operates on a non-​profit basis by Wikipedia.
You can be a member at age 50, no need to be retired. Once becoming a member, you get AARP MAGAZINE and AARP BULLETIN these give you good tips on health and scam warnings.
We took advantage of being a member, getting deals on hotel and rental car booking. Just a few weeks ago, we rented a car from Budget at Kona Airport with $ 310.36 for 8 days. Their special local rate was more than double!

I did some work for them, and despite taking major steps to be paid on time, they failed.
Maybe they needed the money to SPAM more people.

Seldom a week goes by without me getting some membership info in the mail. Since I get my business mail at a PO Box and my personal mail at home, I get two copies of everything.
I have complained several times asking them not to send me so many dead trees as it is a total waste.
Finally they heard me!
I still get their crap every week, but now they type «PLEASE RECYCLE» on each piece of paper, plastic and cardboard they send me.

Last July I joined AARP in order to sign up for The Hartford auto insurance program. Last January I received a renewal notice (six months early!) and nowhere on the notice did it provide any begin or end date. I went to my checkbook and realized I could ignore the pitch. In April I received another notice, which sounded urgent: «We’re concerned that we have not yet received your Renewal Confirmation…» «…please act now to maintain your membership.» This was still months before my policy would expire. Again, no dates provided as to when my policy began and ended.
Obviously this is gaming the consumer for cash flow. I went to the Web site to complain, and it took me 30 minutes to find the customer service email system. I complained, and got this response: «AARP’s renewal series consists of several opportunities to renew. The purpose of the series of notices is to provide members the optionto renew at a time that is convenient for them. Our hope is that ourmembers are able to renew before experiencing any interruption inbenefits or services, like travel discounts, pharmacy services, AARPThe Magazine and the AARP Bulletin.»
This is BS. It’s a cash flow decision that treats the membership like idiots. AARP has become a company that sells insurance policies, and like most insurance companies, it is willing to scam clients.
