Alex & America’s Towing

The phone number for America’s Towing is out of service. You have to figure out that it is also Alex’s towing company which has a different phone number! AARGH! Something shady about this whole set up, which takes cash only and has a lot filled with cars haphazardly parked.

Don’t use this tow company, period, if you have a choice. These guys scratched my car during a tow, and are refusing to accept responsibility.
My car had been at a tow-​facility for a bit of time after an accident. I wanted the car taken from the tow facility to a body-​shop. As the insurance company involved with the accident had made an estimate at the tow facility, I wanted pictures there in case the insurance refused to cover damages related to the accident. I took pics just prior to the tow. The tow guys required a cash payment (I had already gone home), so I had to meet the tow-​truck driver at the drop-​off location. Having just closely inspected my car, I quickly noticed a new scratch on the rear passenger-​side door. My pictures from just prior to the tow, also showed that area, and there was no scratch, prior to the tow
I confronted the driver of the tow-​truck, on-​scene, and he flat-​out denied any responsibility, despite my mentioning that I had pictures of the car before and after the tow.
I have called this company multiple times to address the issue. Although they take my information and say they will get back to me, they do not.
If you want a company that doesn’t give a care about your vehicle and think they can damage your property and get away with it, make sure you pick Alex’s Towing.

I needed a jump start for my car and I was literally directly across the street from this shop. All I needed was a a truck to come across the street or have someone walk over with a booster box. I called the office because I thought how easy and convenient this will be… because I’m right across the street. When I called, the gentleman was polite enough I guess and I explained I was right across the street, he quoted me $ 60. And I said I’m literally across the street, I will pay you have of that at most. He immediately became rude and said no $ 60 cash that’s it. So I thankfully hung up and went back into the Yes market I had just come from and the employees there happily came out to help me and I was in my way home in 5 mins for free. Americas towing lost out on some money and a good rating to help their reputation.

I was truly disgusted with the lack of professionalism and honesty of this company. Geico called this company and Alex was pleasant and reassured me that they would come in 30 minutes. Fifty minutes later I called Alex to see where the driver was and he said stuck in traffic and it would be another 30 minutes. That is horrible service!!! He had my number and could have given me a heads up. I canceled after I called another company and was quoted a ten minute pick up time. That company came in ten minutes as promised. Being stuck on the side of the road in the middle of winter is no fun, at least keep the client informed.

My friend’s car broke down on the highway. They said we needed $ 75 for the hook up, $ 5 per mile after that. The $ 75 sounded reasonable, $ 5/​mile sounded ridiculous. Is that typical?
Also, they said it was cash only, and had to be paid up front, but could not calculate the distance to the mechanic. Is that typical? Not sure how they’d know how much to charge.
Luckily my friend’s insurance ended up calling a tow truck from elsewhere for him. That truck was 2 hours late, but at least it was free.

My car needed a jump and I called Alex’s based on Unilocal reviews. They promised to be there in 20 minutes but arrived in just over 10. I barely had enough time to get to the ATM to get cash. (The dispatcher said they only take cash.) The driver was very friendly and got the car running right away (and got the alarm to stop after it cranked up!). He suggested that I get a new battery, which I knew I needed. Would definitely use them again, but I hope I don’t need to.

When I called at 10:30am for a tow, the dispatcher said there was a backlog of 90 mins but the driver would call me when he was on his way. I said OK, I have things to take care of nearby so that’s fine.
After not hearing anything for 3 hrs, I call to find out where’s the driver, is he on his way yet? That’s when the dispatcher asks me the location of the car. When I tell him, he tells me it’s just outside their range. Gee, that would’ve been nice to know earlier. Then he said if it were within his range he’d have a driver on his way in 10 minutes. Um, that’s kind of hard to believe considering that they sat on my phone numbers for 3 hours until I called back.
Not Recommended At All.

After my 3 hour train ride to DC, I was just happy to see my car again at Union Station. It had been a few weeks, and I don’t get to use it very often anymore. I reach for my key fob, and press the unlock button, and then, nothing. Strange. Maybe I need to be closer. I press the button again, and, again, nothing. I begin wondering to myself if there is an issue with the key fob. I manually open the door, and then I try to start the engine. Nothing. Oh. I have a completely dead battery on my hands.
After a minute or two of reflection, I remember that I have Emergency Roadside Service with GEICO, and I call them to make a roadside claim. In a few minutes, I am told that a tow truck company will send a man out in about 45 minutes to try to jump start the battery, or, if necessary, tow my car to a local garage. Sure enough, almost on the nose, 45 minutes later a man arrives with a portable jumpstart kit. He attaches the calipers to the battery, I turn the key, and nothing. Oh boy. Apparently, the portable unit is effective for batteries with some juice left in them. Worse, the tow truck is too high to enter the parking garage itself. So, what this means is that the car has to be manually pushed outside of the garage. Really? In 2010? In the U.S. Great. The towing guy pushes the car back out of the space while I steer it. We then turn the car around, go down the lane, make a U-​turn into the next lane, hang a right, go through the gate, turn down the very steep ramp, round another corner and proceed to the ticket booth. All of this was done, again manually, sometimes with both of us pushing the car in the case where we had to go uphill. I pay my parking fee. It feels ridiculous, given that car is actually being pushed by hand. The car is then further pushed down another hill to the redlight leading out to the highway. At this point, the towing guy is able to bring his truck around and give me a proper jumpstart. Total cost to me: $ 0. That made the unfortunate experience more palatable. Better yet was the incredible customer service. I certainly wasn’t expecting my car to be pushed by hand such a long distance. He was very gracious about it the whole time and so polite and friendly. Wow. That can go a long way! Highly recommend! I don’t think service gets more personable and friendly than this.
