AMC Loews Georgetown 14

This theater was marvelous, the IMAX 3D experience was really good even though some of the other theaters were under construction, it’s pretty much for a better experience for everyone. The food was awesome, yet a bit up in price but hey… that’s the movies for you. The audience weren’t rude or ignorant like some movie theaters you attend. Plus the staff were really nice, giving all information about why the hallways had plastic up near most of the theaters but like I said in the beginning, the renovation and construction is basically to bring a better experience to the folks when coming to DC or if you already reside here, you’re definitely going to make this your «GO-​TO «movie spot!!! I’ll be coming back

I’ve seen 4 movies here and each time it’s been an adventure. The two most memorable experiences have been Stars Wars and X-​men: Apocalypse. So, here goes. After buying the tickets at least a month in advance for Star Wars and waiting in the cold outside for an hour on the day of the show, someone pulled the fire alarm. we waited outside again. only to come inside and be told to sit in silence for 45 mins. only to find out (eventually) that they couldn’t recalibrate the screen, therefore we couldn’t watch the movie. We were compensated for the tickets but it was a waste of the day as this entire process took after 4.5 hours.
When we recently saw X-​men, even though it was not a sold out show, we were made to sit in the theatre with the old cramped seating. which is fine, I suppose. only there was no air or ventilation and something smelt like rotten fish. Come on, that’s not cool.
The bathrooms have been filthy each time I’ve been and the staff don’t seem to have any interest in being there and doing there job. Also, the popcorn? Expensive and tasteless. Ugh.
Why do I keep going back? Simply because it’s the closest theatre to me. However, I think it’s time to move on and take my money somewhere else.

First things first, the layout of this movie theatre is quite confusing. The box office is a mixture of staff and computers, which is fine but sometimes if you’re in line and someone doesn’t realize they can use the computer to purchase tickets, it makes the line longer.
Honestly, I didn’t see where the concession stand was until AFTER my movie. Unless you’re in theatre’s 9 – 14 you will not be near the concession stand. The staff here is also not the friendliest. I wrote a tip, but I’ll say it again, you are not allowed to use the restroom unless you have a ticket. So, if you’re like me and usually wait till your friend/​date gets there to pick a movie/​time to then purchase your ticket and you need to use the restroom (because it’s that time of the month) you’re outta luck. I found this appalling! Once inside the bathroom (after I bought a ticket, of course) it was completely filthy!
Overall, this is a not a theatre I would revisit. No assigned seats, filthy bathrooms, uncomfortable chairs, and the rudeness of the staff is just enough for me to say never again.

Came here last night for the first time to see Batman v. Superman in IMAX 3D at the first showtime ever at 6pm. Bought tickets in advance through Fandango. Overall, pretty okay experience. Not the best I have ever had at a movie theater though.
The theater was clean, it was really easy to get physical versions of my tickets through just by scanning the Fandango thing I had in my passbook, and it was comfortable.
Two complaints:
(1) There is no service in the theater for Verizon customers — which is great during the show, because it minimizes cell phone use, I suppose — but I was unable to check in on Unilocal and Facebook, post pictures, or contact the person I was meeting there, all before prior to the show beginning.
(2) Before the show began, there was a line to get inside the theater since most people showed up an hour + in advance. We had a line going, then about 10 minutes prior to going inside the theater, they moved our line to the other side of the hallway behind a rope. This would have been fine, but people lost their spots in line because they had to get around the rope.
That’s about it. Other than that I had a great experience. Like I said, the theater was very clean, which I always appreciate, and the popcorn/soda/m&ms we got were the usual.
I wish they had the reclining seats in every theater, but I think they are still transitioning to them.

If you can get to the movies in the afternoons this downtown location is often quiet for early shows so a good choice to avoid crowds, lines and busy theatres even for popular movies.
Clean theaters and the counter staff seem to be movie fans.

My first visit here was for a screening of «Gods of Egypt». I found it very convienient to park in the adjacent garage and walk across to the theatre. Well lit, escalators and elevators are available and an overall clean facility. The staff there conducted themselves in a professional manner and were courteous when fielding questions. I will definately frequent this establishment in the future.

I went to this movie theater for the first time for a 6 p.m. showing of Deadpool on Valentine’s Day. Overall, I had a great experience. However, it was SO busy and crowded, you could barely get around. There were a lot of people in line to purchase tickets, in line for concessions, in line for their ticket to get checked, or they were just standing around (which made walking around difficult.)
There is no reserved seating at this theater. Thankfully, we got to the theater in time and got a seat but I waited about 15 – 20 minutes in line for the concessions. The cashier of my line disappeared for about 7 minutes to serve coffee and froyo (which are some of the cool concessions they offer.) I got a popcorn and soda — popcorn wasn’t cold or stale. Because we didn’t purchase tickets online, we got paper tickets and the AMC employees were walking around ripping paper tickets so we could go into the theater. For those that use Fandango and other sites, they were stuck in a long line with only one employee checking their ticket.
Once we got through, the theater was a little old fashioned in a quaint way. We found two seats easily, as this was a larger theater — larger than Courthouse. The seats aren’t reclining but they’re comfortable enough.
The movie started on time and in the end, it was a great experience. The theater was full of young people, which is nice and gave it a different kind of energy. I asked an employee why it was crowded — if it was because it’s a long weekend, Valentine’s Day or what? She said a combination of both and that Deadpool just came out. So I think maybe sometimes it’s not as crowded. Regardless, I’d definitely recommend but keep in mind it is a reservation-​less movie theater and since the building is small it can get really crowded.

Popcorn stand workers were incredibly rude. We were here on 02÷13÷16 at 6:30PM — 9:30PM. Proper signs were not put up regarding the popcorn and ICEE drink promotion. We only found out during the movie and came up to the stand after to see if they could do anything about it. The lady working on the right (coming in) was completely rude and almost made it sound as though we were the ones who made the mistake. Ended up paying $ 6 more than we should have but more than the money, its about the attitude that she gave us. Tried other workers but everyone did not help us and instead showed a very rude attitude, claiming that it was 3 hours ago and that they can’t do anything. How we are supposed to go to them earlier is beyond me because of the movie… Unbelievable. Horrible service.

The theater layouts are okay — many more good seats than you’ll find at E Street Cinema.
BUT way way way too many ads! And I’m not even talking about «coming attractions.»

Boy has this this theater gone downhill. Bad air conditioning, weird smell, dirty bathrooms that have no paper towels, crappy food. I highly recommend the iPic in nearby North Bethesda instead. worth the drive !

The seats in this theater are meh. The people who work at this theater seem to hate their job — so it always starts the experience off with a bad vibe. There are so many other theaters in the area who offer better seats and amenities.
Coming back to drop this theater to 2 stars. Gave this place one more try yesterday because it was the only theater with availability/​time for the movie we wanted to see on Christmas day. The sound was EXTREMELY loud. The movie? Not Star Wars or another action flick, but Sisters. Really? You blasted us out for Sisters???
Given our experience and the bad reviews I’ve seen regarding how poorly they handled the problems they had with the Star Wars opening, I think we’re done with this place.
Leaving it at two stars because the location is great for catching a bite to eat, seeing a movie, then strolling down by the river.

Went to see Star Wars Force Awakens, or so I thought. I was at the 12:30pm opening day show. They kept us seated in the theater working on technical difficulties for an hour, asking us to remain completely still and silent so they could ‘calibrate’ the IMAX equipment. That was done in vain, and we were asked to leave without seeing any movie. No effort to change to another theater/​screen to give us what we desired. So many people took the day off from work to do this and were left frustrated.

We purchased 8 tickets to Star Wars IMAX 3D for 12:30 pm afternoon showing the day they made pre-​sale available. Waited in line for seats and got there early so we got perfect seats.
At 12:16 fire alarm went off and removed all guests from theaters. At 12:40 allowed all back in (like Black Friday). At 1:00 they started movie and it was pink. At 1:05 they stopped the movie. They made us wait about 20 minutes before they started «calibration» where they made us sit in the dark for THIRTY MINUTES and warned against any sound to include eating popcorn. WE FELT LIKE HOSTAGES!!!
At 1:50 they said they couldn’t start the movie because of the rest of schedule and it would disrupt other movie goers. They made us sit in another line and gave ticket vouchers, which are not good for imax or 3D.
We took off work, took an über, sat there for almost as long as the movie by the time we got our voucher. I have never had a worse experience at any movie, let alone any business in my life.
They profited from concessions and movie and we received nothing except for 3 hours of standing in lines and a preview of what gitmo must feel like.
Now I must wait for a non sold out Star Wars movie and pay for another ticket because of this voucher.
You are horrible. Don’t go here. They should have made it up to us for fire alarm and cancelled another movie.

Trying to watch stars wars. First the chicken strips were dry. Then a fire alarm. Then the picture is all jacked up. Worse movie experience ever. Never coming back to this place.

I came here for the big Star Wars premier last night (first time in this theater) and I was thoroughly disappointed.
Pros:
–It’s an AMC theater? Comfortable enough seats I guess.
Cons:
–Parking is now $ 9 with a 4 hour validated ticket. And if you go past the 4 hours, you don’t start at the hourly rate, it basically becomes a not validated ticket at all. I was there for 4 hours and 10 minutes and my parking was $ 25. (granted most of the time you won’t be here for longer than 4 hours but because of the Star Wars premier… I had to get there early to get seats). I saw signs for $ 12 daily parking rates a little bit down from the theater so it may be worth it to look at those if you’re going to be past 4 hours.
— The theater was HOT. Like, sweltering hot. It was really uncomfortable. It felt like they didn’t ventilate the air at all and there was no cool air whatsoever. Not happy about watching the premier in such settings.
— They ran out of hot food. From 5:30 to 7:00 PM, they stopped serving hot food at the theater. Really? They didn’t even have a sign up to notify people… so I waited in line for ½ hour to order some chicken tenders and the guy’s like «oh we’re not serving hot food… we’ve stopped for a while cuz we’re backed up. Only soda and popcorn.» Thanks for telling me ahead of time. Then I went back on line again at like 7:10 to another concession stand on the other side and they were able to give me food.
— The theater was small so there were only one set of bathrooms on one side of the theater. So if you were in a theater on the other side, you have to bring your ticket stub with you just to go to the bathroom and then show it again when you come back.
I don’t know… I just had a pretty bad experience this time. Maybe they’re better when they’re not so swamped…

Two big problems:
1). Virtually no cell reception (at least ATT) and no wifi. So if you’re worried about work, or the babysitter, or. .. anything, you need to be prepared to just wait it out. I couldn’t do that.
2). It’s either really cold or really steamy — the temperature control here is lousy.
I walked out of Star Wars after nearly 2 hours because I was freezing. I didn’t love the movie, but would’ve sucked it up if I could at least be sure nothing was blowing up at work — but couldn’t.

Movies are expensive, and parking in Georgetown is a nightmare — these are facts we know to be true. However, watching movies in the theatre, and buying yourself that absolutelynotgoodforyou popcorn is sometimes just the treat that we need. If that’s the case, AMC Loews Georgetown is not a bad option. They validate your parking ($ 9) for up to four hours, giving you a somewhat less stressful parking option, and the ability to not just watch your movie, but also explore georgetown with the remaining hours — which in Georgetown is easy to spend with all of the restaurant, bars, ice skating (during the holidays), cat cafes (check out Crumbs & Whiskers) options. I don’t often go to the movies anymore, but when I do, Georgetown is usually my preferred location in the district.

Went here to see the Peanuts Movie. It’s a decent theater location is right near the water in Georgetown. The theater seemed over run by teens/​tween this particular night. The concession stands were chaotic. The theater needed cleaning but the popcorn was fresh and the Coke was cold and I found the movie entertaining. Parking sucks.

Only negative (taking it from 5 to 4 stars) of this movie theatre is the parking. Either pay for 2 hr limit street parking or $ 9 garage parking. Choose the garage. Why? Because I was not watching the time and my movie went over the 2 hours lol. But, I love that’s it across from the waterfront. Definitely a romantic, peaceful pathway for a date to walk and chat alongside the water after.

***Highly recommend street parking-​avoid the garage next door (Central Parking) that validates/​discounts for AMC. ***
We were here recently (as a party of 8) to see a movie. The theatre was very organized & clean. We had a fantastic experience with AMC. However, parking in the garage next door that validates was a different experience.
The elevator for Central Parking got stuck. Luckily an employee of the Ritz Carlton heard us yelling for help. The fire department had to come get us out from between floors. After we were pulled one at a time from the elevator a garage employee finally appeared. To apologize? Make sure we were okay? No, to tell us we owed $ 9 for parking.

Nostalgia coming here. Not for those prices though, hot damn. I know going to the movies is an expensive outing and all but how does a theater only honor a student/​child discount on certain days? Maybe if you gave it everyday, it wouldn’t be so darn empty all the time i
Can’t comment on the concessions because I couldn’t afford them lol but the theater was quiet and clean and they have a bike corral on the street I could scoot up to so overall I was pretty happy!

This is a nice little theater to come catch a movie if you’ve got some time on your hands!
The location is both good and bad.
Good: it’s in Georgetown! So there are a ton of shops and restaurants within short walking distance for before or after your movie.
Bad: it’s. In. Georgetown. So parking is an absolute nightmare at all hours of the day. The theater does validate parking though.
The rest of the movie-​going experience is pretty average though. Expensive popcorn, expensive candy. Plus side though… They DID have the Coke machines that mix the different flavors and the theater was super clean.
Weighing the positives and negatives of this particular theater, I’d come back for sure!

Location is nice, parking is convenient. It’s not like AMC Courthouse, it has regular old –school uncomfortable movie seats. Tried the fro-​yo last time, it tasted good but it’s weird, it took a while to make they have to like load these yogurt packets into a machine.
Main reason for the low rating is due to the fact that when we walked in to see Mad Max, the theater had not been cleaned from the previous viewing, so there was popcorn bags, soda, and trash everywhere. Not really acceptable in my book. The one time I stray from Courthouse I get burned. Ugh.

It’s just a normal AMC. No metro stop nearby (you gotta walk from Foggy Bottom, or take the bus), so I’m not a fan of that. Like other reviewers mentioned, there are enough garages and street parking in the area, so that’s a plus. Enough places to eat in Georgetown nearby, which is awesome.
I do love how there’s never a line to grab tickets! I always buy beforehand on Fandango, and use the ticket machines to retrieve my tickets. :)

Decent theatre with options of street or parking garages nearby ($ 9). The seating is normal stadium seating. No LAZY boy recliners like at AMC Courthouse.
They have the Coke Freedom machines which are a nice feature and normal expensive popcorn, candy and snacks like every theather.
Saw Pitch Perfect 2 here for a Pre-​Screening and the audio/​visuals were on point.

Saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in one of the larger rooms, loved it. Saw Lucy in a tiny, back room. The movie was strange, cheesy and overall pretty bad. That’s enough about the movies though.
The theater is nice and seems very new. It is the closest theater for Georgetown students and is the only theater that serves busy M st. I bought a movie meal at the concession stand and the popcorn quality was good. They have good air conditioning, which makes it a welcome retreat in the summer and bathrooms! Anyone can tell you it is very hard to find public restrooms near M st. Well here you go, this theater has great multi stall available. I look forward to watching movies here more in the future.
