Ameriprise Financial Advisors – Bump & Associates

I’ve been with Ameriprise for several years, from before the 2008 reckoning, and have changed advisors twice. I’m with Denise at Bump & Assocs. after our previous advisor, Louise, retired. I could not be happier. Denise is thorough, insightful, knowledgeable, down-​to-​earth and effective. The options Ameriprise offers are more than we could use, and the management of our accounts has been quite beneficial. We’ve been rebalanced to improve our returns and safeguard us against market fluctuations, several times in fact, and each time it was with an eye to the current and future expectations. Our accounts are professionally looked after, trades are transparent, and access to help and feedback is very good.
Despite what you may read in the two other reviews that blast Bump & Assocs., one of whom doesn’t even live in DC and couldn’t be properly reviewing this firm, you will receive outstanding service and a knowledgeable team of professionals helping you meet your goals.
No, I don’t work for them. They work for me. No, I haven’t been paid to write this review. I’m an actual client of the firm. In fact, I and my husband had a mid-​year review in person with Denise today. I could not be happier with how she talks with us and guides us.
I have recommended two other couples and a single friend to their firm and all have been happy to work with Bump & Assocs.

I have been a client of Bump and Associates since 2001. They have set up and maintained my retirement accounts (load off of my shoulders), coached me through challenging times and have been very patient with my financial flightiness. I have recommended a few friends who have been just as happy with the experience. Denise has a great staff that relate to each other like family and that makes a really nice environment in which to plan.

If I could give them a zero I would. This is a very unethical office and they charge exorbitant fees and no service in return. It was a BIG mistake switching to this firm and I lost quite a bit of money in just one year. Don’t walk, run away from this place.

According to my recent conversations with Ameriprise, you’re required to maintain an account for life, or pay a $ 100 account termination fee.
I would never open an account with Ameriprise ever again. Here are the details if you care to read:
I have an account with Ameriprise that I opened a couple years ago. It’s technically a brokerage account, and I’ve just had about $ 250 sitting around as cash. In order to consolidate accounts, I decided to go about closing the account.
I emailed the office in DC where I opened the account, they directed me to the home office.
The cliff notes:
the home office told me it’s a $ 100 fee to close the account
I asked them to explain
after a brief hold the rep came back, literally stammered for a full 30 seconds and said well ma’am, it’s just that we don’t want people to leave
called back and talked with a supervisor
he gave me a bullshit story and refused to waive the fee.
He said I signed an agreement that outlined the fees when I first signed up
I’m still in the process of trying to close this account without having to pay an egregious penalty. I’m sure I could have signed a document outlining this procedure, though it sure wasn’t brought to my attention.
