Beau Thai – Mount Pleasant

We ordered red curry with shrimp, hot and spicy noodle bowl with pork and cashew chicken for delivery. On the phone they told me about 45 min (which my friend confirmed to be the average for delivery in the area) but the food arrived probably 10 min earlier, which was great. I was already happy.
The food: the noodle bowl was pretty good. It comes as a broth with little meatballs and with noodles and veggies on the side for you to mix it all together at home. I thought the flavors were nice and the dish definitely had a nice kick to it. My friend had the chicken cashew which she loves and swears to be a magnificent meal, I didn’t really taste it but the smell was quite nice. Now the curry; ahh the curry… the curry was listed as medium spice, however, it was spicier than the hot and spicy noodle bowl which for me was quite surprising. Not a problem, I’m a fan of spicy food. It was a very tasty curry but I was turned off by big chunks of eggplant in my curry. Eggplant? Really? WHY?!? I may not be an expert in Thai food but the eggplant definitely tasted like it didn’t belong in that dish and I’ve never seen it in Thai curry before. In addition to this, the shrimp in my food was overcooked and scarce. They charged me 2 extra dollars for shrimp and I only received 5 pieces of shrimp, which was hard and overcooked. I might be asking for too much but overcooking shrimp is something I do, I expect restaurants to get it right, t do better. In spite of the issues with the curry, the food tasted clean and it was well seasoned. The spices were delicious and service was efficient. Would order again but maybe a different dish next time.

Green curry and mango sticky rice are super tasty. I’ve only had delivery so I can’t comment on service.

This place is amazing. All the dishes are good, the ambiance nice, and service friendly. Huge fan.

Beau Thai has a very friendly staff and great food. I haven’t been disappointed with a single dish. The massaman curry and drunken noodles are my favorites. My one reservation is that the take out portions can be a little small.

Consistently good. Always busy. Probably the nicest restaurant in Mt. Pleasant as far as décor. The food is pretty standard fare for a Thai place.

So yummy… and now that I’ve moved away I miss it even more. In the probably two dozen times that I’ve been there, I’ve never left unsatisfied and pretty much have tried (either by ordering myself or taking bites of someone else’s) maybe half the menu. I also loved their cocktail version of Thai tea. Just the perfect amount of heat.
All in all, go!

My friend and I went into DC to grab Thai food here. We loved the modern décor and atmosphere, although the tables are very close to each other so it’s not quite spacious. The food is great, but not the best Thai food I’ve ever had. It definitely has all of the standard menu options and does them well (my friend LOVED her fried rice with brown rice). What I’ll have to try next time I return is one of their signature dishes (crispy tilapia, chicken, etc.). Although they all sounded so great, I had to default to my standard order of Shrimp Pad Thai which was still pretty tasty. I also tried the lemongrass cocktail with cava, it was syrupy and tasted too sweet so I would not recommend it. Other than that, I look forward to trying this place again!

Because of their consistency with serving delicious and warm dishes, Beau Thai is surely one of my favorite go-​to places whenever I have friends in town. From the drunken noodles (pork preferably) to the Beau Thai chicken, you can’t go wrong with any of the bowls and plates. If you’re a fan of spicy food, this is your joint.

We live 3 blocks away from this place and have been wanting to try for FOREVERRRR (well, since we moved to the area, 6 months ago). We’d walked by it maaaany times before and it always has a really great crowd and atmosphere, definitely the most lively place on Mt. Pleasant street. So last night, Saturday night, after a longgg week we decided to walk on over and try it! The restaurant was about 85% filled, great vibe, loved the bar, very pretty. We were sat right away in one of the few two tops available and within minutes we had water, great start!
We took a few minutes to look over the menu, of course I read my fellow Unilocalers’ reviews, and we finally decided on the empanadas and the dumplings to start. The empanadas were delish! The sweet sauce they come with is soooo good, the dumplings were good too, ya know, the ush. For dinner my hubs ordered panang curry (with pork) and I, very predictably, ordered pad thai, also with pork (I love pad thai, so of course I had to try Beau Thai’s first before venturing into other dishes!). Both dishes were excellent. The curry was so tasty and a very good portion with rice on the side. The pad thai was also great! So tasty and just a perfect pad thai for me!
We wanted mango sticky rice for dessert but our nice waitress told us the mangoes weren’t ripe yet so it wouldn’t be sweet :(so we decided to wait until next time to try that. Fellow Unilocalers’ pics of it look amaziiiing so can’t wait! So glad we finally tried this little gem! Will definitely be back!

My favorite Thai food in DC. I live just outside of their delivery range, but I will go pick up or pay extra for Postmates because the food is so much better here than other Thai places that are closer.
I love their red curry and duck red curry, and the drink menu is always great!

Decent food. Really nice setting, but not my favorite Thai Place here in the city. It’s a great go-​to if it’s your neighborhood restaurant. I had the cashew chicken.

Customer for pick up addressed as «N*GGER».
This is my first Unilocal post ever and I hope that this will be my last. I have been ordering food from Beau Thai since they opened being that I live literally right around the corner. I ordered my food for lunch on a weekend as usual. I walk into Beau Thai and one of the waitresses prepare to ring me up. The thing is while she was preparing to order me up I saw a customer on the screen with the name «N*GGER». Keep in mind all the other names for pick up are completely normal including mine. I was in complete shock and so was the other woman sitting at the bar waiting for her food as well. I immediately addressed it and asked the waitress «Does that say «N*GGGER!!!». She immediately looks as if she is caught and responds «huh? Oh nooo I dont know how that was put there. I don’t know who put that there». Another waitress comes up and they speak in thai really quickly and she immediately attempts to delete the name but I stop them and tell them not to change it until the manager comes. The manager is on the phone so he is finishing up they keep saying «we don’t know who put that». While he is one the phone I try my best take a clear picture of the screen so that I have evidence on this situation not just «my word». Once the manager finishes he tries to stop me from taking a picture of the screen which was fine with me because i had already taken a clear picture of the screen. While he is speaking to me the two waitresses walk up to us with another waitress (smiling as if they found a solution to this lie) and they begin to say «SHE did it she did it SEE! She speaks bad English and she doesn’t know». The funny thing is that the waitress who they said «did it» spoke English better than the other waitress and the manager himself! The only one who spoke the best English was the one who took my order and the one who rang me up (suspect). Togo the waitress who rang me up is the same waitress who named the other customer «N*gger» unless they never changed the names on the cash register which could be possible (but that doesn’t even matter). The order screen said the person who took the order is named «TOGO». Weird thing is on my receipt (which I also took a picture of) says Togo took my order as well but the person I spoke to spoke very very good english and the only one that could have been WAS THE WAITRESS WHO RANG ME UP. This is the waitress who said she «has no idea how that got there». So the manager is literally telling me «look at her face she is so nice and doesn’t know good english» and she puts her hands on her face like «see I am so sweet». It was extremely ridiculous. The manager continues to spew nonsense and pull out any excuse out of his end that he could. He said «she has only been in America for a year and there was someone named NICKLES and she speaks such bad English she wrote N*GGER instead». Remember that I said all the other names were completely normal including mine. Somehow she magically misspelled Nickles by spelling «N*GGER» perfectly. I do not buy it and I explain that I have studied abroad in Thailand, Phillipines, and Malaysia for robotics and I have been called a N*GGER MULTIPLE TIMES IN EACH COUNTRY. The crazy thing is that EVERY SINGLE TIME some one from an Asian country would call me a N*GGER I would confront them and they would say the same thing the waitresses and manager and Beau Thai said «Oh I am sooooo sorry, I dont know, I didn’t know. That is a bad word? oh my!». How is it that Thailand REMAINS to be an extremely racist country where black people are STILL depicted in black face, as monkeys and monsters but she has «no clue» what the word «N*GGER» meant. The other two waitresses said «well we know that word is bad but she is completely clueless about it». So two waitresses know what N*GGER meant but they chose not to call the person back and fix their name? Honestly the waitresses and the manager pulled so many backwards unbelievable excuses out their rear ends that I literally could write an entirely new paragraph about all the excuses and blatant lies they came up with. SO PLEASE DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THIS RESTAURANT. I hope every black person that reads this will not give their service to a restaurant who does something like this. I also will post the pictures so that you all can see. Blessings and please always stand up to racism when you see it.

In my 20s, I went to O’Tasty on Columbia Road, but now that I’m 30, I graduated to Beau Thai. It’s a beautiful restaurant on Mt. Pleasant Street and offers many seats. The food is a step up from your usual Thai restaurant, but with the familiar taste of the Thai food you know. The green chicken curry is AMAZING and fills you up. Also, they only use fresh mango on their sticky rice and mango. Wow.

Always, always, always great! Soups are flavorful and with the freshest ingredients. Cocktails inventive and delicious too. I

Finally a good Pad Thai in DC! Fishy, complex, touch of sweet. Way too many bean sprouts but fortunately they were only piled on top and not mixed in. I also think too many green onions, but I know that’s just a personal preference so no points off for that.
I also tried the sesame wrapped fried tofu. So good. The sesame is simple enough to let the tofu shine but adds a yummy nuttiness. The tofu is definitely not disguised, just gently accented by the sesame. Messy to eat though but who cares about that :)
Can’t wait to try more next time. I got dinner delivered by Favor. The food came is brown paper boxes, not yucky styrofoam, which I definitely appreciate.

I’ve eaten here quite a few times and have always had a good experience. Consistently good food, fresh ingredients. Dishes are occasionally a tad on the spicy side, so definitely keep that in mind and ask your server to tone down the spice If you’re sensitive to that. My favorite dish is papaya salad :)

A cut above normal Thai restaurants, both in food and décor.
She Said: My standard order of tofu pad kee mao was perfect — savory, evenly sauced and spiced, with the right vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, basil, onions) and tender rice noodles.
He Said: The chicken noodle bowl was delicious — a roasted chicken leg in curry-​based soup with egg noodles. Each ingredient on its own would be just okay but together it was fantastic.

I’ve been to Beau Thai a number of times — both dining in and carrying out — and I’ve always had a great meal for a reasonable price (emphasis on *reasonable*). The bill somehow always comes out to $ 20+ a person. However, the quality of the food and the creativity of the menu (a notable fall special was pumpkin empanadas — yum) makes me feel like spending the $$$ is justified.
Service is quick and direct — no aimless banter at this place. The décor is industrial (aka bare bones) but with a few nice touches of Thai people and scenery. Seating is unremarkable — you’ll likely be at a rickety wooden table 1 foot from your neighbor.
What makes this place special is the quality and consistency of the food. I’d recommend taking out since the dine-​in experience is pretty forgettable.

Three and a half stars for solid neighborhood Thai. Menu feels pretty limited, if I’m being honest. Plenty of street parking in the area, clean bathrooms in the back, a few small patio tables outside when the weather’s too nice to be inside at the bar or for seating. Seating hostess is super friendly, but the actual servers are consistently absentee enough that I opt for takeout whenever possible.
Cocktails were conceptually interesting but taste just okay; I ended up gravitating back to the non-​alcoholic beverages. The same can be said for the brunch– my initial excitement over a more authentic menu was dampened upon discovery that the flavors are still muted in the interest of the gentrified locals. Noodle substitutions are welcomed. Rice quality is fine. Noodle bowls have a fair amount of broth. Egg drop grits were a little bland, Thai sausage dense– no complaints about the well-​executed «OMG!» chicken. The red curries are easily my favorite go-​to, but the pumpkin specials in the fall are not to be missed; shoutout to the Paleo pork jerky that deserves a slot on the core menu. Future hit list: pork belly, duck roll, larb gai, kanom krok, yum beef, crab fried rice, massaman curry, fried banana, taro home fries, sweet saffron dip, Thai donuts, chicken empanadas, grilled eggplant salad, steamed dumplings, mango sticky rice, tom kha.

Es un lugar excelente si te gusta la comida Thai, el sabor de sus platos indudablemente deliciosos y me encanta la decoración del lugar. Recomiendo Masala curry y su Thai tea, pude visitarlos en Febrero por San Valentin pero sin duda regreso para probar algo nuevo de su menú.
