Blake Enterprises Moving and Storage

They came recommended by a couple friends and started off being easy to work with. We hired them to pack and move us. 2 guys came the day before the move to pack. One left after a couple of hours, and the second left a couple hours later. There was a ton of stuff left unpacked (despite the fact that we only lived in a 1-​BR), but we figured they knew what they were doing. They came back at 9:00am the next day to finish packing and move us. They didn’t finish packing us until after 7:00pm! They grossly underestimated the amount of time for the packing. So they didn’t leave our house until 11:30pm. And that packing included doing things like just throwing all of my ties in a trash bag. BUT THAT WASN“T EVEN THE WORST OF IT…
I had a marble-​topped dresser that I’d inherited. The dresser showed up but without the marble top. I called and they said they’d look for it. I called back a couple days later and they said they’d found it in their warehouse. Over the next two weeks, I made very patient and understanding but repeated calls to arrange when they could drop it off. There was one excuse after another. It’s now 3 MONTHS LATER, I’ve still never gotten the piece back, and they won’t return my calls. I’m not sure what alternatives there are to putting these reviews online.

We hired Blake Enterprises to move us from DC to Silver Spring, MD, in mid-​August. I called and booked them after hearing good things about them from 2 – 3 friends. We hired them to pack and move us.
When I called, they only asked me what we needed and how big our apartment was (2 bedroom apartment plus storage unit). The movers were supposed to pack us on the first day and move us on the second.
SO many things went wrong, the worst of which were that the movers didn’t finish packing us up until late afternoon of the second day (after leaving early on the first day). And when they were done, all of our stuff didn’t fit onto their truck, so the move went into the third day.
What was MUCH worse was that they broke several things of ours (part of our couch, a bookcase, some glasses) and other things were extremely damaged (chairs totally scratched up, cleaner spilled on children’s books, etc.). At the end of the packing job they just started throwing all of our things into industrial size trash bags, no matter what it was. Bathroom and cleaning items went into the same bag as our daughter’s books and bath toys, and spilled all over everything, I might add.
The most infuriating part of the whole thing has been the companies lack of response. Once we started unpacking and finding all of the broken items we contacting the company and were told to write an email detailing what went wrong and what was broken. We did that right away and did not receive a response for ONE MONTH (and during that time I called and emailed several times).
When they finally did respond, they only said that we had more than the average amount of stuff, there must have been a miscommunication when I booked them (there wasn’t — they asked two questions and I answered them honestly) and it rained that day (I’m still not sure what that had to do with anything).
At this point they have not apologized for all of our lost or broken items and they have certainly not offered any type of compensation for the things they ruined.
Do not — I repeat, do NOT use this company. There are much better moving companies out there.
