Unprecedented service! A year and a half ago my niece from abroad came to get her first pair of glasses and Virginia had a great selection for her to choose from. She was very happy with the glasses until over a year later she broke the frame. I called Virginia to see if I could buy a replacement frame and she notified me that the original model was discontinued and unavailable. She later called me back to say that she could offer me a different color of the same model as a courtesy, free of charge. We received the glasses two days later and couldn’t be happier with Virginia’s outstanding level of service. Thank you Burton Optician!

After checking out several other eyeglasses shops I dragged my husband over to Virginia’s store. Not only does she have a great selection, but she also is incredibly helpful in choosing the right frame. After a lot of back and forth I chose a funky red pair of glasses, which I completely adore!
And, not only was Virginia helpful in choosing frames, she also promised to have them ready the morning she returned from her vacation so that I would have my new glasses for my own vacation, which she absolutely delivered.

Looking for the funkiest, craziest pair of frames in town? This is where to go. Blink, Apex, and SEE are great places and all have wonderfully unique frames but Burton Optician has the most funk. There are classic styles here too but there are also pairs that are so fun it hurts. Virginia is also supremely professional, kind, and helpful. She cleaned and fixed my old pair of glasses without any cost. I also bought a pair of glasses which I promptly returned a day later because I changed my mind on liking the shape and she refunded my purchase without making me feel bad. The only reason I didn’t purchase a pair of frames here is because I found a different brand that I liked better elsewhere but I will check her store again when my prescription again. She also referred to me to a wonderful optometrist.

Best glasses buying experience and pair owned to date. This is undoubtably due to the knowledge and helpfulness of Virginia. It’s obvious that she cares about having unique frames available (I.e. not found in big chains) and also enjoys matching up the right pair to less-​than-​knowledgeable clients like me.
I usually wore contacts 90% of the time. I’ve worn the new pair more often and have already received a few compliments in the first week+!

I didn’t know what an Optician was before I went to Burton. I mean, I knew semantically what «optician» meant, but I never before received the level of service that I did from Virginia Burton.
The store is located in a small townhouse about a block off of Wisconsin Ave. While there are not as many frames as you would see in a Pearl Vision or Hour Eyes, the selection is much better. I was looking to get something a little less conventional than my standard plastic black frames, something that would stand out more. Virginia helped me look around the store, made suggestions for shape and colors, and gave honest feedback. It is comforting to me when some can honestly say, «no, I don’t think those work for you.» I know sales people are afraid to say it, but I don’t want to find that out AFTER I buy something. Eventually we settled on brighter blue frames for which I received many compliments. I used to wear glasses only when I was too lazy to put in my contacts. Now I wear contacts only when it is not possible to wear my glasses.
She also fitted my glasses perfectly to me. My old ones used to slip down my nose or were loose on my ears. I have not had any problems with my new frames and if I did she told me to come back and she would readjust them for free. She also told me how to take care of my glasses. I’ve been wearing glasses for 12 years and had always gotten the same lecture: «Don’t scratch them.» Someone get those guys from Guinness down here, I just heard the most useful advice in the world! But Virginia actually told me a lot about lens maintenance that I did not know. She also provides a service where she will clean your glasses with a sonicator if you bring them in from time to time.
Easily the best experience I have had buying new glasses. I’ve already referred all of my vision-​handicapped family members to Burton Optician.

Burton Optician’s carries stylish, unique glasses that you can’t get anywhere else in the Metropolitan Washington area. Virginia Burton, the owner, provides survice to die for. I’m extremely pleased with my glasses and sunglasses. I love the compliments I receive on account of them and it’s great having sunglasses that nobody else has.

I was super impressed at how well she knows her clients. She takes an interest in everyone-​very cool.
I appreciated her allowing me to pick glasses, order and try them on to make sure they worked prior to ordering the lenses to fit. Virginia always calls promptly and lets you know when the shop will/won’t be open for pickup.
Finally, when I took my glasses home she let me know about free refills on glasses cleaner and that she’ll do a special cleaning when they need it. (Especially after going to the beach where salt and sand will harm my specs.)

Wow, my experience here was fantastic. I’ve been wearing glasses for 20 years and have lived in many cities, and I can say this is the place to go for the best variety of frames, from funky to clunky to classic. Virginia very adept at guiding you through her collection and helping you select the right frames for your face and your taste. I’ve been buying eyeglasses from Ms. Virginia since I lived in DC over 10 years ago. I now live in TX and continue to shop at her store every time I’m back in the District on business or pleasure. Lens and frame quality is excellent and she will go to great lengths to make sure you are satisfied with your purchase. Highly recommended.

I have never had a more pleasant experience getting glasses before! Virginia is super nice! She offered me water and adjusted and cleaned my old frames while I looked for glasses. I mean, I could’ve walked out and not gotten anything and that wouldn’t have stopped her from being so nice. Virginia also suggested ways to lower the price without lowering quality.
She doesn’t have a huge selection of glasses, and most of them are acetate, but there were enough interesting yet classic styles on hand for me to stay (and thankfully I’m a lover of the plastic glasses).
Highly recommended for anyone that wants a wonderful, personalized experience and plastic glasses.

Ms Burton is the most amazing optician I’ve ever encountered. I recently started wearing eyeglasses and was looking for a new pair. Someone said I should go see her.
We ended up spending about an hour together. She fixed my existing glasses, making them so much more comfortable to wear and even asked me to bring her my second pair the next day so she could fix them as well (and she did, all at no charge).
She also taught me several things about eyeglasses, stuff that only an expert would know. She was extremely kind and generous with her time and advice, even though I had not found a pair that suited me at her store. She even recommended another store to visit because they carried what I was looking for.
She’s the greatest. It’s too bad we have so few small business owners like her these days.
