I am a big fan of this place. As I’m sure it has been stated, the sandwiches are great. Both the turkey and the roast beef are carved immediately before added to your sandwich. There’s a great choice of breads, cheeses and garnishes for your sandwich. Likewise, there’s a tremendous selection of potato chips and other snacks. I used to love the breakfast sandwiches. However, in recent months, Carvy has changed the way it makes an egg sandwich. Basically the meat and cheese are folded into the cheese. This is delicious but it causes a ridiculous amount of grease. By the time I get back to my office, the grease has gone right through a toasted bagel. It’s unappetizing and I’m sure not too health … not that a sausage egg and cheese is the healthiest choice! But, Carvy should fix this sandwich.

Business trip to DC prompted coffee and bagel run before long day of meetings. This place was on my way and I’m glad I stopped in! Fast service, fresh coffee and a good selection of bagels is just what I needed. The sandwich selection looked good too. May stop back If time allows for lunch.

BESTLUNCHTIMESPOTDOWNTOWN! they’re always consistently good and so reasonably priced compared to every other nearby spot. so many options to choose from: freshly carved meats(turkey or roast beef) to salmon and crab and veggie options are always on point(sprouts, carrots, spinach, etc. PLUSAVOCADOISFREE); lots of bread options too in addition to varied options that are so fresh, the portions are huge and prices are cheap. the sandwich plus soup combo deal is crazy good($ 1 for sm soup; $ 1.50 for lg soup). tried the maryland crab soup today and was delicious. always a lot of dudes here too(probably because the portions are huge!). always a bit of a wait bc they’re so popular but the line moves fast and the meal’s worth it

Carved turkey sandwich for $ 8.35! I’m not going to say these are amazing, but they they are solid sandwiches. You have your choice of bread(white, wheat, sourdough, Kaiser roll, and croissant). If you tell em «everything» for condiments, you’ll get every single one they put out!!! Yes, I did that. Ha ha I want to come back to try the carved roast beef sandwich. Until then, bon appetit!

Years ago when this place first opened I was not impressed, and I didn’t come back for a couple of years until I gave it another shot at the urging of coworkers. I don’t know what it is, if they have refined their sandwich formula or if they have just held constant on price while everyone else has gone up, but Carvy has now quickly become probably my favorite sandwich place downtown. The meat is great, the toppings are diverse, and they give you a lot of food. The wraps are fantastic and I prefer them over the bread options. The only negative I can really present is that the guy who makes the sandwiches is quite mean. He just growls at everyone and looks like he has infinite disdain for all of humanity. One time I asked for the meat to go on the bread first(they do this thing where they do toppings on the bottom and meat on top), and he gave me a look that actually made me fear for my life.

I stop in here at least once a week for an amazing iced coffee. The coffee ice cubes are really as good as they say. Breakfast sandwiches also cannot be beat. They have turkey sausage and perfect multi grain bread. Two things to make that same old breakfast sammich special. Echoing others on here as prices cannot be beat!

If there’s one place you get iced coffee in DC this summer, make it Carvy. They serve up a delicious brew, complete with COFFEEICECUBES so your coffee never gets watered down. On top of their great coffee, they have a wide selection of breakfast and lunch items. Sandwiches, sushi, fresh fruit, any type of potato chip imaginable, cookies, wasabi peas, the list goes on.

Fresh bagels toasted with tons of cream cheese for less than $ 2. Feels like you’re not in overpriced DC! What a breath of fresh air this place is. Eager to try them for lunch too! Fresh roasted turkey is actually CARVED up in front of you. Smells heavenly too.

This was my second choice for lunch. My first choice was closed due to the holiday Monday. This might be my first choice next time Chips and a drink for $ 7.68 That’s pretty reasonable for downtown DC. This wasn’t just a sandwich, it was a heaping portion of great tuna salad dolloped on top of fresh rye bread brought together with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and a shmear of mayo. All the ingredients looked fresh. There’s also a very large selection of drinks, bagged chips, and snacks. I’ve worked in the area for awhile and I wish it hadn’t taken me this long to stop in. Great food, friendly service.

Best place in the area for breakfast. Reasonable prices in an unreasonably priced neighborhood. Breakfast: Coffee ice cubes for iced coffee prevent watering down. Breakfast omelets are loaded, cheap, and don’t require extra charges for veggies. Lunch: Sandwiches are solid. Roast beef and turkey are carved on board, fresh and daily. Salads are salads, but reasonably priced and with fresh veggies. Service: Best service in the area. John(the manager) always has a smile and the women who generally run the grill are focused on efficiency during busy times and extra friendly when times are slower and are more conducive to socializing.

Visited Café Carvy for the first time last week. I am a Belly member and had a free sandwich or salad as a reward. Since it would be my first visit and I would be redeeming a reward for a free sandwich, my expectations were not high. Usually businesses look down on customers like me in this situation, which causes me to wonder why they decided to participate in a program like Belly in the first place. Well, this was not the case at Café Carvy. I was greeted with a smile and welcomed by both the woman at the cash register and the man who made the turkey sandwich, after I told them I would be redeeming a reward, mind you. I was very impressed with the generous portions, especially the meat. The quality and flavor was great. Will definitely be back!

Coffee ice cubes! And seriously cheap(and tasy looking) breakfast sandwiches. Will definitely stop by here for a sammy soon and update my review. But for now, I highly recommend the hazelnut iced coffee with the coffee ice cubes :)

Not bragging but I’ve been on a roll lately in terms of good places on Unilocal.I read Alex M’s review and decided to stop here for some breakfast before my early morning call. I’ll be able to do the call energized and with a smile now. Breakfast is filling, fresh and cheap. They make everything in front of you and it’s light on the wallet. I’ll be sure to stop in here for breakfast when I can and I can’t wait to try their sandwiches for lunch.

I’m so glad I read everyone’s review of this place! If it weren’t for my fellow Unilocaler & colleague Brian S., I probably would have continued to walk past this place. I always assumed it was just another deli/buffet place which I typically avoid. Don’t be fooled by the exterior! The roast beef looked amazing but I was craving turkey today. I got it on a sub roll and it was HUGE!(I ate half today and can’t wait to have the other half for lunch tomorrow!) They really pile on the turkey and toppings. Everything was fresh! I loaded mine up with avocado spread, mayo, lettuce, tomato & red onion. Next time I’m going to ask them to add pepper, toast my bread, and easy on the meat. I ended up pulling out a lot of my meat because I couldn’t fit my mouth around to take a bite! Thanks to Amy Z., I also tried their iced coffee… I like my coffee strong and the ‘coffee ice cubes’ are a genius idea!!! I kept raving about it at the office — of all the coffee shops on 19th street, this is the only one that doesn’t water down their iced coffee. Another bonus — there is no bag fee! Staff was incredibly friendly!!! They have plenty of seating inside and outside and the place is super clean. For $ 9 — I was able to get 2 lunch servings, and an iced coffee. For DuPont, that’s pretty darn good! Can’t wait to go back to try the Roast Beef!

Good deli with a pretty cool gimmick — the roast beef and turkey are carved and seasoned fresh immediately(literally seconds) before its put on to your sandwich. How could this possibly NOT be good? There is seating indoors and outdoors, and the people there are ultra-friendly. A decent sized sandwich(with a flair) + extensive toppings + pickle(included) for under 7 bucks? 4 stars in my book. Definitely worth at least a try, and probably a spot in your DuPont-area lunch rotation. Only downside is that the meat is thickly sliced and piled high, making it a bit tough to eat compared to your run-of-the-mill sandwich. UPDATE: Okay, I am moving this to 5 stars. Just found out that guacamole comes free, making it the only location in the world that guac isn’t an ultra-premium topping
