Capital Hospice

We found much of the staff to be extremely unprofessional — care givers who made wildly inappropriate and offensive comments (related to my loved one and I being of different races), staff who consistently showed up late and once didn’t show at all until we called (apparently our time had no value to them), and medical advice that was contrary to our wish of providing the utmost care to our loved one.
At one point we ran a medication change the hospice doctor recommended past our hospital physicians who told us in no uncertain terms to NOT follow the hospice doctor’s advice as there would be immediate health consequences to our loved one. After that, we ran all medications and care questions through our personal physicians only.
In terms of the timeliness with which problems with medication refills and equipment orders/​issues were dealt with we’d rate them a D. There was very much an attitude of «we can call tomorrow to get that…». The last time they gave us response it had to do with equipment that helped us monitor medication dosages — NOT something that can wait till tomorrow!
We did have one care provider that was exceptional but I’m afraid that one person was not always our primary care contact. In addition, Capital Caring did provide medical equipment and checked our loved one’s vitals 2 – 3 times a week (when we left the hospital we were told they’d come 5 days a week but that’s another story).
We went with Capital Caring because they were the only option the hospital gave us per our insurance. We hope that other families, given a choice, will have the opportunity to consider a wider range of options.
