The quintessential Washington neighborhood restaurant nestled in the shadows of American University and Wesley Heights, Chef Geoff’s has become a Washington classic thanks to its delicious contemporary American cuisine, cheerful atmosphere, beautiful al fresco dining, and loyal clientele.
History
Established in 2000.
Geoff Tracy is the owner of Chef Geoff’s, Chef Geoff’s Downtown, Chef Geoff’s Tyson’s and LIA’S. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1995 with a degree in theology. After Georgetown, Geoff went on to graduate first in his class at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. In 2000, Geoff sought to make his vision of a neighborhood restaurant that consistently created great food, libation and merriment a reality by opening Chef Geoff’s. The restaurant was started with the help of a small group of friends from his days working in the Clyde’s corporation and from the CIA. Dave Pow, previous Executive Chef of Chef Geoff’s Downtown, was among that group who did everything from painting the restaurant to building the tables. While preparing for the opening, Dave slept with his two dogs in what would become the Private Party room. On June 2nd, 2000 the doors opened and half an hour later an elderly women entered and ordered a burger … to go.
