I am very happy to have Dr. McMackin as my doctor in Washington DC, and I am glad to be able to write a review on Unilocal to let others know about him. First of all, Dr. McMackin actually cares about how I am doing. He never rushes me through my visits, he always gets back to me quickly on those occasions when I call him, and when I have needed a referral, he is very thoughtful about who he sends me to. Everyone whom he has sent me to has been awesome. Second, and equally important, he very much knows what he is doing. He takes the time to do a thorough workup so that his diagnoses are accurate, and he has great ideas for treating what ails me. When I go to his office, I feel like I am going back in time before managed care. Meaning, I am treated like a human being rather then a cog to be processed through an assembly line. My only fear in writing this review is that more and more people will go to him and make it more difficult for him to do his job as well as he now does.

A terrible receptionist and a terrible practice. They have their own group medical program for $ 25/mon for ag 39 or younger and $ 40/mon for 40 and older. The receptionist is ALWAYS rude, first of all. It’s really hard to get an appointment even if you are a member of this group thing. This membership is supposed to give you more than 1min of consultation with the doc, but I’ve never gotten it. The doctor is always quick. He prescribed me a wrong antibiotics, I ended up going back there for a different type. Another time, he prescribed me the medication that was no longer available. When this happened, I just quit the membership and stopped going there. I’v never had any consultation time with him more than 1min. Oh maybe once when a medical student was with him.

Dr. McMakin is a great doctor — friendly, considerate, smart, phones you back, sees you on time. He is a real find. The nurse is good too — the people at the front desk can be a little cranky, but they are ok.
