The DACOR Bacon House Foundation was established for the purpose of contributing to the development of mutual international understanding and the strengthening of ties between the people of the United States and other nations. To this end it pursues programs of a public and educational nature to enhance public awareness and foster educated leadership in international affairs, including an annual conference and fellowship and scholarship programs.
The Foundation also maintains the historic DACOR Bacon House. The late Virginia Murray Bacon envisioned the House as a meeting place «to facilitate international peace and understanding by bringing together leaders in the field of foreign policy and international relations and law for the purpose of defining and resolving international problems.»
History
Established in 1985.
The DACOR Bacon House Foundation was formed in 1985 by the merger of the Bacon House Foundation (est. 1975) and the DACOR Education and Welfare Foundation. SInce its establishment, the Foundation has been headquartered in the DACOR Bacon House and pursued its dual missions of education in the area of foreign affairs and the maintenance of the historic property at 1801 F Street NW.
