Happy Pride? An event was offered at Comet Ping Pong for Pride. We paid our cover and anxiously awaited the show. Although this venue is TERRIBLE, with overpriced, watered-down beer, and a shamefully small dance area(what can you expect from a pizza joint?), we decided to attend anyway. About 1100, we asked when the show would start, only to discover it had been cancelled. That would have been great information long before we decided to «party» at some crappy little pizza place! C’Mon DC! Get your s#@! together and a. find a better venue b. stick to the show schedule c. make it worth our while!

If you find Eddie Izzard’s cross-dressing offensive, look away now… If you don’t mind your entertainment involving fake mustaches and gender splitting women, then you might like DC Drag Kings. They perform at Apex on the first Friday of every month, on ladies’ night. It’s not free($ 10 at the door) but there are lots of ladies, together. The moniker of the group indicates that it’s a group of women dressing as men… but really, it’s just a good old variety show with a gay twist = a gaiety!(Wait till I put that in !) The show at Apex was a little cross-dresser, a lot burlesque and a whole gaggle of lesbian. Dollar bills were flying, lights zinging, lips-a-syncing, and junk-a-dropping. And did I mention the cat calls? Oh wait, that was me! While I was clearly not as titillated by the T&A as some of the other patronesses… I certainly rocked a good ol’ time. Yeeeha! But, then again, I was also fully tanked… Earlier in the evening, I chatted with the cute boy manning the back bar. I looked deep into his eyes and asked him… about his commute, his studies, his other job, his limes… and then, he asked me if I was lesbian. After that, perhaps out of pity, he began giving me free drinks and cocktails with no tail. Maybe he knew that was as lucky as I’d get on ladies night. Perhaps he wanted to test the one drink theory. Or was bored out of his pretty head!(PS. If you are going to «chat» with the barkeep, make sure to break his barrier by touching his fingers when you grab on the bar to whisper in his ear.) The DC Drag Kings are also a little touchy feely. Aside from being an entertainment troupe, they are also a support community. Coming to terms with the persona inside can be challenging — so what better way than by letting the inner man OUT! Hooray and more power to the entire troupe of DC Drag Kings! As a Unilocaler, I screamed myself hoarse shouting my support of Diego El Sabroso! Yes to self-expression! Yes to deliciousness!
