DC Scoop Cafe

So sad this place closed down :’(
it was my boyfriend and I’s favorite crêpe spot in DC. The atmosphere was so friendly, they played great music, the Ethiopian lady behind the counter was super friendly. They once gave us extra Nutella no charge when we asked for it. Wish they’d re-​open. I’d deff bring in some customers.

CREPE! I should have tried some Ethiopian food, even though this place is known for ice cream and crepes.
Anyway, it’s just a small hole in the wall place that serves pretty good crepes and ice cream. Just happened to stop by because I needed to use the restroom, and the woman was kind enough to let me go before I decided to buy food.
It was a really nice homey place that I am glad I was able to stumble upon by chance.

We ordered the tibs, a fruit crêpe with caramel, and coffees. I must say, we rode a unicorn to heaven as we devoured this savoury meal. I highly recommend this café. It is humble, it is cozy but I would always come back here if i lived in its vicinity (by vicinity I mean the eastern most part of California).

This place is just around the corner from my apartment and I love it. It’s great for a light lunch and the service is pretty quick. I’ve never had any of the sweet crêpes yet, but my favorite savory crêpe is the chicken pesto, which also includes cheese, baby spinach, and tomatoes. The vinaigrette that comes on the side salad is excellent and all the ingredients are fresh. There isn’t very much seating or ambience inside, though, so I’ve always gotten my food to go.

The bf and I have been wanting crepes for a while, and decided to check out this place after church yesterday. Holy nutella, Batman.
We each ordered a savory crêpe, (him: Chicken, me: Veggie) and decided to split a sweet crêpe for dessert. (Yes, you can have dessert at breakfast)
HOLY CRAP they were good. The savory crepes were huge, and came with a generous portion of mixed greens with some type of tangy vinaigrette dressing. It was so good that I willingly ate salad! We decided to eat in, and it miiight have helped that we were the only folks in there, but our service was great, and our crepista (what is the actual term for this?) had the sense to ask us if we wanted our banana nutella crêpe right away, or after we were done with our savory ones instead of bringing them all out at once.
His chicken was good, but I can’t really opine on it, because I was so focused on my veggie, which was packed with avocado and feta. I think I only gave him one bite, it was that good.
Our banana nutella crêpe was covered in powdered sugar and chocolate, and served with whipped cream. It was good and definitely satisfied my sweet tooth, but I think it could have used more nutella. (really, though, what can’t use more nutella?)
Also, did I mention that we had all this food for $ 21???
My only gripe is the small menu — I just wish there were more options. With nutella. I don’t know if they would make their regular fruit crepes with nutella if I asked. Guess I have to go back and find out…

I stumbled across this place at 2:30 in morning. No lie! I was prancing in my stilettos, saw a cutie, and stumbled down the stairs. I needed to check my ankle, so I walked into a tiny crepery. DCScoops has a Nice variety of crepes and ice cream. I also notice that they have espresso drinks and hot teas. NICE!
I walked to counter and ordered a soy chai latte. The two young ladies at the counter were very pleasant especially for that time of morning. The chai latte was awesome.
Whenever I’m partying on U-​Street, I must stop and get a hot drink especially since coffee is known for its sobering powers.

I love this place! It’s a great place for a snack consisting of crepes or gelato.

Stopped in here for some post-​boozing ice cream on a Friday night. I ordered a scoop of pistachio ice cream in a cup, which necessitated a phone call to some mysterious oracle who could locate which tub in the freezer case was pistachio. What? You can’t even find the ice cream when it’s labeled? I decided to chill and just go with the flow, but when two other people were served before the worker remembered to scoop my order, I was a little peeved. The ice cream wasn’t thick and creamy, and I’m still not sure I got pistachio. It was sweet and had nuts in it, but it was a little icy and didn’t have the nice nutty flavor of pistachio, and it wasn’t green – I’m okay with that, but I wonder what I ate.
My husband ordered a Ghirardelli crêpe. The lady making the crepes had no idea what he meant, until he pointed to the menu and told her it was #11. She looked really confused looking for the ingredients. She did know how to make a crêpe, but the end result was just passable.
Our whole group found the experience to be odd. One person in our group said he wanted a waffle cone about 4 times, and was given a cup of ice cream from the smiling worker. The two ladies who worked here gave the impression that they barely understood English and were extremely new and not well trained. It was a weird experience. They were really friendly, but it shouldn’t be that hard to get some ice cream and a crêpe from a place that specializes in those two things.

Cute place tucked amongst the row-​business along U Street. We ordered the nutella and strawberry crêpe and it was well done. It was a good cap off after lunching in the area. The service is also very sweet and very courteous.

Great crepes, great gelato. I think some thing are a little over priced, but it is what it is.

Great alternative to point chaude. Owner is great and really passionate about her business. The restaurant is clean, open, and fun. Food is great and service is great.
And the crepes are served with a salad!

Annoyed. Now the owners won’t honor the Scoutmob deal without a $ 20 minimum. And it’s only five bucks off. Ordered anyway.
Iced coffee was a bust. Watery. Waaay too much half and half. A woman returned to the café to return her iced coffee while I was complaining to myself about mine. But, I only ordered it to get the $ 5 off, so it was free.
California crêpe definitely did NOT have three eggs as advertised. Probably 1.5. It was tasty, though — because I asked them to add goat cheese to it. Side salad was not good and was smothered in a sweet dressing.
Husband ordered the banana-​strawberry-​nutella crêpe. There were no strawberries. Did I mention the cashier spoke limited English? Annoyed. But, the Nutella to crêpe ratio was insane.
We won’t return. The crêpe place on 14^th is a zillion times better.

DC Scoop & Crêpes have been on my list since the day it opened since I’ve been on a personal mission to find the best crêperie in DC. And by the best, I mean the closest match to crêpes in Paris. DC Scoop isn’t it, but it’s pretty high up on my list.
I came in with the Scout Mob deal and wasn’t hassled about it. I ordered the veggie crêpe and the Ghirardelli chocolate crêpe.
The veggie crêpe was served with a side salad. Everything tasted so fresh, I can almost swear that they picked the spinach and tomatoes from the backyard after I placed my order. The spicy vingarette dressing on the salad was amazing; I couldn’t believe they served this at a little crêpe shop!
The chocolate crêpe was just okay – it could be a little crispier.
The crêpes are made in perfect proportions so you don’t feel like a pig after eating just one. All in all, I definitely recommend this place for a meal or just a snack.

Loved this place. Stopped by to use the Scout Mob discount and had no problem with it. I got a savory crêpe (scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, and ham) and a sweet crêpe (nutella). The savory crêpe was tasty and perfectly cooked, and came with a nice little salad on the side. The sweet crêpe was absolutely fantastic and nearly a work of art presentation-wise…I wish I took a picture. I’ll definitely stop by here anytime I’m around 14^th Street and looking for a light dessert.
The service was quick and friendly.

For a while now I’ve wanted to stop in to check out the amazing crepes you can smell cooking inside as you walk past this place. Two friends joined me today for brunch. While it’s definitely «cozy» inside (we were afraid there wouldn’t be room to sit since there were only 4 tables arranged), it worked out fine in the end — the helpful staff re-​arranged some unused tables and presto we had our own spot. We ordered three different crepes to share — sweet (nutella/​banana and added strawberries), savory (pesto) and another savory (breakfast). All three were amazing! The sweet had wonderful fresh fruit, the savory pesto was just so full of flavor. I probably would skip the breakfast one in the future but may be good for people who like eggs more than me.
I added a cappuccino to my order. For the other reviewer who was concerned about the lack of foam in hers before, rest assured they’ve fixed that. Mine was spot-​on delicious.
I’ll definitely be going back again. Just be aware that it’s a bit of a tight fit down there so you might want to go early to get a table.

I randomly walked by this place on a Sunday afternoon. I hadn’t really eaten lunch so I impulsively ducked in for a crêpe. The little shop is immaculate and very fresh and new. Given that they are in a U Street basement, this attention to detail and cleanliness impressed me very favorably.
I ordered the veggie crêpe, which has spinach, avocado, tomatoes, and cheese. I was given my choice of cheese; I went feta. The chef, his technique, and his equipment were just as you would see in Paris. If you eat in, the crêpe is plated on a real plate and you get real silverware, which I so appreciate. I hate being responsible for disposable cutlery.
The crêpe was delicious. The actual pancake part was not too thin and a little bit chewy (as it should be), and it was stuffed with ingredients, lots of spinach, perfectly ripe avocado, and generous feta. The tomatoes were pallid, but that is not the shop’s fault. It was served with a good quality mixed green salad with a nice dressing.
There was a little hiccup at the register involving math, but it was sorted without too much trouble.
As noted by other reviewers: despite the name, there is no ice cream yet.

Found out about this place via ScoutMob, which had a 50% off deal for it. It just opened right outside my door — sold! I come in, iPhone in hand, and order a sugar and butter crêpe. The owner is super unfriendly and hostile, claiming that I need to order at least $ 10 to use the coupon (which is not written in the deal at all). She eventually relented and applied the discount. The crêpe was mediocre at best, and definitely nothing special — it had powdered sugar but no butter, and was honestly pretty bland. I think that the owner lost interest in getting my order right after she saw I was paying with a discount. I don’t really get why you would argue with someone over two bucks after just having opened and trying to build goodwill and a support base in the community. Don’t really get it at all.
I will not return.

I really want this to be a three & a half-​star situation as there are still a LOT of kinks to work out, but they have a lot of things going for them.
First, the ambiance is adorable. About four small tables but I imagine they think most of their business will come from the window.
Second, the crepes are wonderful. Mind you, I was going to order one of the crepes with Grand Marnier and the employee told me they didn’t have any. (Maybe you need a liquor license?)
Third, it’s a good thing I didn’t want ice cream as it didn’t look like they had any at the moment, the area where the ice cream tubs would be was totally empty.
Fourth, I ordered a cappuccino, which was tasty, but completely a latte. Absolutely no foamed milk. I took my drink to the guy who made it and told him (as I could tell he was new at this when he made my drink) that a cappuccino needs to have foam in it, technically a third foam, third milk, and espresso. (I didn’t get into fractions, but said there needed to be foam.) Of course he offered to re-​make it and I didn’t let him as it was not a big deal to drink what I had and put a fine drink to waste, but as a new business, I thought it was good to tell him about the drink so someone else who’s not as friendly wouldn’t complain down the road.
Oh, and I used a Scoutmob deal which entitled me to 50% off my purchase. He did all the calculations on a sheet of paper. $ 4.95 for the crêpe, $ 2.75 for the cappuccino, divide by 2… I couldn’t believe there wasn’t a computer system or at least a CALCULATOR to help him. Again, I didn’t really care and it was the middle of a weekday so it wasn’t busy but it’s certainly not a sustainable practice.
Finally, they had the generic radio on (I think 107.3) and it was at a barely discernible volume for most of my stay there until all of a sudden it got SUPER loud, to the point where new customers had to speak their orders quite loudly. I politely (or passively) asked one of the (I think) owners why the radio got loud so suddenly. She apologized and turned it back to the original level.
It may seem like I was being a pretentious pain during the visit but I was trying to give feedback to a new business that can and should do quite well with just a few more tweaks. I will say everyone who worked there was very eager to please customers and the crepes were lovely. I look forward to returning!

I have to admit, I wasn’t particularly excited about a crêpe restaurant coming to the neighborhood. I do love ice cream, but it’s mid-​winter, and I didn’t see myself wanting sweet crepes very often.
However, I was delightfully surprised when I had a breakfast crêpe — with eggs, cheddar, and turkey — a few days ago. The meal was only $ 6 and it came with a nice little salad. The person I was with got the pesto crêpe, which was also fantastic. The coffee was delicious and the service impeccable. For the price, I see this being my new «go-​to». Can’t wait to try the other crepes on the menu!

I am a lucky man, this creperie/​café opened right next door to my office. If ever you are craving a crêpe, ice cream, or coffee, and are anywhere near the U St. corridor be sure to give this spot a try, I guarantee you’ll be a return visitor.
The prices are pretty cheap, considering the area and compared to prices of the other creperies. Oh, and for those who are craving a late night snack/​meal after partying on U St. or seeing a 930 Club show: IT’S OPEN TILL 4AM. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been out with my buddies after last call and everyone’s hungry but someone objects to greasy fastfood or pizza, problem solved, and I know anyone who closes down bars in DC has been in that situation haha.
With an authentic french chef, and fresh high-​quality ingredients, this place will surely catch some attention, fingers crossed they’ll have something on groupon or living social soon.
