I cannot resist stopping at the Dirty South Deli(DSD) Truck whenever it is close by. The Mr. Chips sandwich is definitely addicting. It has a unique mix of flavors that just makes you crave it. Luckily they now have a brick & mortar location as well as a Mr. Chips meal option on Über Eats… so I can feed my craving even if not nearby if it’s that lucky Über day! A special note on their Über Eats offering — DSD takes extraordinary care in packaging the meal(a Mr. Chips sandwich with southern style mac and cheese). In my experience, NOBODY else takes the care that DSD does in packaging for Über Eats. The various components are in a high quality, durable, segmented plastic container that includes a simple assembly diagram telling you how to build the sandwich. This keeps each ingredient fresh and allows you to adjust how much of some ingredients to put into the sandwich. Definitely adds to the experience and shows that they care about delivering a quality meal to your tastebuds! A word of warning about assembly — If you feel you need help building your sandwich, think twice! You may end up with just an empty container as your assistant might«accidentally» eat your sandwich once it’s put together! One bonus about the truck is that they offer an array of hard-to-find glass bottle beverages. My favorite was RC Cola, but apparently it wasn’t popular for the masses. Cheerwine & Runningbyrd Tea are more than worthy substitutes though! So tasty… and Dirty — good dirty though not bad dirty! ;-) P. S. — Sorry for trying to keep this truck to myself for so long. I first found them 9 months ago :-D

I had the Mr. Chips. It was very tasty. Tater salad was good, also. Will return.

I tried the Mr. Chips sandwich(pork, cilantro, onions, manchego, and jalapeño butter buns) with mac and cheese through Über Eats. I haven’t tried enough sandwiches to say whether the Washington City Paper’s award is arguably accurate, but this sandwich was pretty darn good. The pork is tender and has a great cider vinegar base. Mac and cheese was solid, though not outstanding. The pork and house mayo are separated from the buns when packaged so the buns don’t get soggy. I really appreciated that touch. All in all a very good sandwich that showed a great deal of work and thought put into it.

A particularly good truck. The sandwiches are inventive and oft-changing. That’s both good — more choices! — and bad — your favorite may be gone the next time. Importantly, they’re also easy to eat on-the-go which is fairly rare for a premium sandwich. One particular note, the vegetarian options are larger and more filling than usual vegetarian lunch options. This is very good for me. I have a theory vegetarian options are usually smaller in size because the purchasing demographic skews more female. The vegetarian sandwiches here are large enough to keep me filled through the day.

I had the chance to try Dirty South Deli at the Unilocalchella event and was hooked! When I saw that their truck was near my work I had to go and ordered the same sandwich I had tried, the Mr. Chips. I was so excited in fact that I also ordered a side of their potato salad, local brewed DC tea and happily devoured the whole meal putting myself in a food coma. For real though, this sandwich is delicious and made with real ingredients. This sandwich was also extremely filling(hence the food coma) and hard to put down(hence the food coma). Highly recommend getting a few extra napkins too because they do not skimp on the good stuff. The fingerling potato salad is also amazing and in a nice package so if you have any self control(unlike me) you could save some for another meal. Lastly, the truck carries great beverage options, Capri Sun being one, but I chose the Running Bryd Lemongrass White Peach tea. I am a big tea drinker and was very impressed with Running Bryd… not sweet, delicious flavor and a perfect reusable jar! In conclusion find Dirty South Deli, their sandwiches are well worth it!

I thought the prices were rather high, $ 13 for a sandwich + side from a food truck? After seeing the glowing reviews, and that it’s high quality, I was like ok maybe it’s worth the price. I got the Mr. Chips sandwich with the fingerlings potato salad, the supposedly truck favorite. I got the sandwich, and it was decently sized, and the brioche bun was good quality. The chopped pork was also good quality, and the jalapeño slices I wish were spicier, but lacked flavor. There wasn’t enough sauce on the sandwich either, so you mostly just taste the pork, which wasn’t a bad thing, b/c the pork tasted good. The only problem with this sandwich was it was extremely greasy and unhealthy. The bottom part of the bun was soggy full of pork grease, and felt like a sponge full of pork fat. The bread didn’t even hold together because it was so greasy. The whole thing was so fatty and greasy and ultimately, I felt super guilty and closer to death after eating it. My arteries aren’t thanking me right now. I felt that this sandwich constitutes five cheat days, with the amount of pork grease that was in that sandwich. I’ve eaten plenty of greasy unholy heart-clogging foods in my days, but this probably topped them all in terms of grease/fattiness. It was tasty, but it’s not hard to be tasty with that much grease. I won’t be back, I don’t think my arteries can take another Mr. Chips sandwich.

I’ve been here twice in the past few weeks and will keep coming back, again and again. As others have said, the menu changes often which is great for eaters, like me, who like variety. The first time I had a non-traditional meatball sandwich(I wish I could remember all that was on it) with a Cheerwine(if you have never had Cheerwine, you must). When I got back to my office, my colleague accidentally knocked the Cheerwine over and felt so bad that she went back to the truck to get me another one. Jacob, the owner, must have felt my pain and sorrow after only having a sip of Cheerwine before the rest spilled onto the floor, so he gave her another one to give to me. Last week, I went back when Dirty South was near State Department. My friend, Nora, and I wanted something to split since we were walking from and to a meeting. So, Jacob suggested a wrap(gluten free, not that it matters to me) that would be easy to split then eat and walk. Inside was sweet potato, avocado, chickpeas, feta, and so much more goodness. Also had a side of potato salad with mayo, grainy mustard, and celery(which i normally dislike). The meal was perfect for a pair of friends to split! And, here’s a picture I found that is pretty close to what I ate:

(Thanks to Unilocal for letting me know I left my review on the wrong page.) Oh have mercy! I can’t even remember what the name of my sandwich was… Hold on while I google… welp that was no help but it was a brisket sandwich w/«everything sauce» provolone cheese, purple cabbage, and sautéed onions on a buttery soft and sweet roll. That sandwich was SO good! It was flavorful, moist, and definitely worth $ 10. I tried it while at Drink the District and I got it with chips for $ 11. When I realized that if I ate those regular Doritos, it would occupy space in my stomach that could be used for something more worthwhile, I changed my mind. I politely told them I no longer wanted the chips and he gave me my money back. That was so appreciated. I would DEFINITELY get the food again. My friend had the pork sandwich and she loved it too.

Impressed! Not cheap, but quality ingredients. Dirty South Deli showed up at State Department this past March for the first time and I believe my co-workers and I have visited each Monday every since. This past week I had the Weasel, with slow roasted turkey, swiss cheese, sweet red sauerkraut, crispy bacon, spicy«everything» sauce on rye bread. The turkey was juicy and I loved the crunch of the bacon with the ‘kraut. I’ve also had the«Mr. Chips»(pork was a little dry but the rest of it was good) and the«Spike Spiegel» which was fantastic — the ribeye was juicy and cooked perfectly. My co-workers have reported loving their sandwiches to date, too — Dirty South’s Deli menu changes weekly so I can’t remember all the names. Sides have been hit or miss — they had a purple potato salad a few weeks back which was out of this world, but a week later they had a different potato salad that wasn’t so great. Bonus — sometimes they will give you keychains and/or stickers! My co-worker got a blue one and I got a red one last week along with a sticker.

It’s probably wrong to give a food truck 5 stars based on one visit, but the Mr. Chips sandwich was so damn good I’ll make an exception.

After stalking Dirty South Deli’s sandwich porn Instagram feed for months, I finally was able to track down their truck at Vinofest this past weekend. I was seconds away from hitting hangry level so choosing between their sandwiches was excruciating. Their Mr. Chips sandwich made with chopped pork, cilantro, pickled onions, jalapeño and much more has won awards all around town but my heart was angling for the Charlie Croker which was pretty much an amped-up BLT. To be honest, I’m not one to go out of my way or a sandwich since I think it is something I can easily put together at home. That being said, Dirty South Deli is way more than meat stuffed inside some sliced bread. They use premium ingredients so everything about my sandwich was satisfyingly tasty. The bacon was long and extra crispy — — I picked up every single crumb that was left. The bread had just the right amount of chew to hold through the sandwich. Tomato was on point even though it’s not tomato season yet. Them mozzarella was so creamy and fresh that I did not even miss the mayo that I opted out on. Dirty South Deli is what sandwich dreams are made of.

Great sandwiches. I got the Charlie Croker, which was a BLT with some added ingredients. So good, got it with a side of potato salad. Staff is friendly and my order came out quick. Will definitely return!
