Eagle Bank

The firm I work for has been a customer of Eagle Bank for years and I get to do the banking.
The older reviews don’t go far enough to describe what this unpresuming little regional bank once was. It really was a pleasure to deal with,
But over time it has slumped into mediocrity and beyond. At one time you could count on at least the person at the desk being a constant. You knew them. They knew you. Now it’s the smiley couldn’t-care-less polyester glad-​hander that’s doing time in every bank.
Entrenched employees may be a fraud risk. But Eagle seemed to have a formula where one mid-​level person was a constant. At least at the Dupont branch the turnover is now frightening.
Ok, the Dupont branch may be an outlier. Yet my experience is that there is an even more frightening pool of hubris lurking at the home office in Bethesda.
For years the business owners had a line of credit with Eagle. The ARM was amply secured by the firm’s real estate, So the time came to consolidate a bunch of nearly paid off notes and dissolve that ARM onto a fixed rate note also well secured by the property. It was my job to see what was available and do the paperwork.
Naturally Eagle bank was approached first because the firm had been with them since Eagle started and Eagle already held the ARM secured by the property.
Eagle’s mortgage officer was the kind who can spit «Sir» or «Ma’m» like a curse. The kind for whom humility is indeed an abstract concept reserved for the supplicants allowed to approach his presence. The kind who can be dead wrong but adamant about your duty to accept their truth. He was the sort that makes one want to crawl out of her skin, shake off the venom and take an hour long shower.
Fortunately my bosses understood and we moved the core of the firm’s banking elsewhere where the cookie cuter loan officer promptly paid off the Eagle note and issued the requested fixed rate replacement.
Frankly I miss the old Eagle Bank. It was a real neighborhood bank. Yeah the CDs didn’t return the highest interest and they didn’t have all the fancy «products» like free checking, but the people were dead honest and helpful to a fault. They really knew the Bethesda/​Chevy Chase area and they really knew banking which made my life a lot easier. It felt good to recommend them — heck, I even moved my account there and got my first mortgage there.
Those were the days indeed…

Wow. A bank with a 5 star review!!! Yay! Where has this bank been all my life?!
This is mostly a commercial bank intended for business owners, however they do support consumer accounts with WAYYYY more bells and whistles than other banks I have had accounts at. Stellar personal service without being all up in your face like at Citibank (Very creepy over there!) and real concern for the individuals successful use of the account.
The branch manager, Justin, could not have been more accommodating. Great! Thanks! The most important factor was their ability to gather needed information quickly, without being repetitive, and without being intrusive like every other bank I have been to.
Even thought I did not get a debit card right away, I did get a few checks to start with. Their phone app is so easy to use as well. I am planning on moving other bank accounts here and will open new accounts for my other businesses here as well.
I hope this bank continues to operate this way after it’s more recent acquisitions.

We do our business banking with Eagle and they are a pleasure to work with. On the pro side, they are very personable and it’s easy to make deposits. We also do our payroll through their online banking system, and that is working well so far. All in all, we like working with Eagle.
