Foxhall OB/GYN Associates

I cannot deny that I went with low expectations after reading these reviews. But a very good friend of mine has talked very well about this place, and being her a doctor I trusted her opinion. The lady who took the appointment over the phone was not friendly at all, but when I came in this past Thursday I felt welcomed.
My visit started 25 minutes late, but Dr. Davis-​Wilensky was very nice and friendly.
I felt comfortable and I would totally recommend her!

Nice office and the staff is very nice. The doctors are kind and have great reputations.
Major downside is their amazing ability to run late. Every appointment I’ve been to here has involved a minimum 20 minute delay at some point.

I saw Dr. Tara Abraham at this practice and a nurse whose name I forget.
They asked me to come a half hour early, which I did. But then I had to wait till half an hour past my appointment time. Minus one star for that.
The nurse entered my information incorrectly into their system, I had to correct her (twice). Very blasé attitude. So minus one star for that.
For Dr. Abraham, minus two stars. My GP sent my papers across a week ahead of my appointment at Foxhall, but Dr. Abraham did not even bother to flip through them before meeting with me. She has a truly terrible bedside manner which conveys no warmth or interest. I felt she came across as very inexperienced and just very prescription happy.
I got the sense that this office is run like a giant machine with no personalized care at all. Would deduct another star for that if I could.

If I could give this place. ZERO stars… I would. I am currently in my 12^th week of my 4^th pregnancy… I discussed with the Dr. that I was interested in having a natural birth. and that I have had 2 successful VBAC homebirths… I was looking at my options for having a potential 3rdhomebirth, but since it is not covered in my insurance and costs close to $ 4000, I wanted to undertake my care with a OBGYN physicians office. I informed the Doctor that I wished to complete all of my pre-​natal and post-​natal care with the OBGYN, but that I was not fond of giving birth in the hospital setting (for fear of being pushed into a C-​section unnecessarily for the 2^nd time after already having 2 successful vaginal home births)…
Upon getting ready to leave, the Doctor informed me that they do not work with Midwives (I NEVER ASKED them to do so)…and that she thinks I may need to find a new practice. At this point, I haven’t even made a concrete decision on where I was going to give birth… and already they were FIRING ME! WTH???
2 weeks later, I received a certified letter TERMINATING my physician/​patient relationship for «EXPRESSING INTEREST IN HAVING A HOME-​BIRTH» and gave me 30 days notice!!!
I have a right to autonomy in my care, and in the ethical obligation of my obstetrician to support me with RESPECTFUL Pre– natal AND emergency care, even if I choose a planned homebirth. Specifically, the obstetrician SHOULD NOT denigrate a woman’s decision to have a planned home birth, such behavior is UNPROFESSIONAL and down right INSULTING! I HIRED YOU TO PROVIDE RESPECTFUL AND PROFESSIONAL pre– natal, post natal, and emergency care… and I feel that this practice is a MONEY HUNGRY BIRTHING MONOPOLY! «If you don’t deliver your baby with me, at my facility, (where I get paid), I can’t give you care at all»… SIMPLY THE WORST BEDSIDE MANNER EVER… I NEVER EVER WANT TO GO BACK HERE! AND I SUGGEST IF YOU ARE TRYING HAVE A NATURAL BIRTH (THIS IS NOT THE PLACE THAT WILL SUPPORT YOUR DECISION TO DO SO)…or even take the time to inform you of the potential risks of doing so. THEY WANT ALL OF THE MONEY THEY CAN GET OUT OF EVERY PATIENT… and will offer you every extra blood test possible (not covered by insurance).

I heard great things about this practice, but then when I called to make an appointment, Emma the front desk person was SO RUDE. She sounded bored and annoyed with me and pretty much refused to try to work with my schedule to find a time that I could make. I almost asked her why she was being so rude, but decided not to ruffle feathers and booked an appt. 10 minutes after hanging up, I knew I couldn’t bear to talk to her again and made an appt at Georgetown instead.

They use to be a great obgyn office, however now the wait times are horrible
(waited over 45 at last 4 appointments). Also doctors are so over run with patients it has become much less personable. Even have had doctors complain about schedulers not doing a good job.

Lovely office with all the modern consciences! PROFESSIONAL staff that understand and treat you like a individual and important patient. So thankful I found FH on Unilocal

I did not find them to give me any professional/​high quality service except when I was transferring my papers!
From front desk staff to the doctor (Dr. Lightfoote), to the nurses, my care was less than desirable.
My husband, a physician himself, could not stand the front desk. They messed up my insurance requirements and I almost had to pay out of pocket, and they lost my records after I processed all the papers for them to get it from their sister hospital, Johns Hopkins. They called me a week or so after my appointment and asked me to «meet them halfway» and get them the number they need to call at Hopkins to get the records again! My husband called and set them straight, as this is their job.
The nurse read my weight wrong, showing that I would have gained 17 pounds in one month during the second trimester. I was the only one freaking out although this is an alarm to having complications and no longer being a low risk pregnancy. Another occasion I called the NP because I got thrush, and the answer was go to your primary care doctor! Although this is common during pregnancy and most other places would advise your directly. A third time I couldn’t feel the baby moving, and apparently they answer calls after 2 pm on the next day– I got a call 11 am the next day. At that point the doctor who I was transferring to, who I hadn’t seen yet, had called me back and brought me in to get monitored.
Last but not least of the issues, the doctor — Dr. Lightfoote. She has the worst bedside manners I have ever seen. She was recommended to me by someone, and it was the biggest disappointment because I really hoped she was good. She rarely made eye contact, was very short with me, sarcastic, and condescending. The first time, I asked about natural birth vs. medicated and when they would use it and other regular information you would like to get about their culture. The answer mundanely given to me, «yes we support vaginal delivery. blablabla» while writing something on her paper. this is all she does while talking to me: give me her back while she writes on the counter. She answered the rest of my questions with: «have you done this before…» and I say no, then she gives me some generic answer. I saw her a second time, when I was complaining about the rapid weight gain after the nurse informed me and other minor but valid pregnancy complaints, and her answer was like: «well, your baby is ok!» giving me a bug-​eyed look. If anyone cares about my baby, it’s me, I didn’t need her to remind me that my baby was ok and that I shouldn’t complain about other things.
At that point my husband supported my decision to leave this practice. I am glad we transferred even though it was in my 28^th week.

I have been a patient for about 20 years, and absolutely love all the doctors. Dr. Green delivered my baby and no one there ever left me with any doubts or bad feelings. Sometimes scheduling is difficult because they are too popular.

Searched high and low, spending HOURS on several different sites, for a good OB/​GYN practice that took my insurance. I’ve only had one appointment so far with Dr. Green, but it was fabulous. She’s extremely warm and friendly, very knowledgeable, and takes care of your needs efficiently. I will definitely be going back.

The entire practice is incredible. The office itself is very warm and welcoming; I also feel like they are extremely up-​to-​date not just with super modern equipment, but also with their treatments and processes. They are great for regular appointments, but it was during two critical moments that they went above and beyond (once with a cyst and once with general abdominal pain). Dr. Lightfoote immediately fit me into her schedule and even took extra time (!) with me to make sure I was ok. It takes me an hour to get to their office, but I will never go anywhere else.

Let me start with the minus 1 star… Wait time is crazy. But so is just about any other medical office I’ve been into. Total time it takes me to get checked in, vitals taken, undressed, and shaking the doctors hand is about 30 minutes *sigh*.
Now the 4 plus stars… My second visit to see Dr. Lighfoot and she’s wonderful. She’s personable and has the second best bedside manner I’ve ever experienced with a doctor (first is another doctor that used to be at Walter Reed– but that’s neither here nor there lol). She doesn’t hesitate to explain or address any questions I may have. I have only seen her for gyn services and not the obstetrics part. I definitely recommend.

I have been going to Foxhall for almost 15 years now and have always considered it the gold standard when it comes OBGYN — primarily because when I first started coming here many of my doctors — including specialists — said that this is where they came for their OBGYN needs.
Flash forward to this past year (I am expecting) and I notice that most of my concerns are directed to a nurse instead of my doctor I guess??? Seems ok right?
Today however, my husband and I had a monthly appt that we came to see the doc for and we were exactly 7 minutes late. When I arrived at the front desk, the person sitting there carried on with her work and did not really greet me. I signed in and politely tried to get her attention «hi how are you» … «Good, how are you?» She said and turned back to her work. I replied I am here to see dr. Xx and I am a few minutes late. The receptionist looked up at me and said okay. 35 minutes later a nurse came out from the back office and quietly informed my husband and I that we had passed the 15 minute late marker — we would have to either see a nurse or wait an hour and a half, no guarantee, to see the doctor. I replied that this sounded like a fair policy but that we had not been 15 minutes late.
I am not ticked or anything but I find this policy a bit ironic since I have been left waiting in the lobby area for more than half an hour to forty five minutes and when finally Shown to the actual dr’s office have had to wait an additional 30 mins before anyone came to see me — when I was on time. It’s gotten to the point where I fully expect to have to block off 2 hours to be safe for my doctors visit.
And here is then kicker– the doctor generally spends no more than 5 to 10 minutes with me. I was a little shocked to learn today that my doc had appts scheduled in fifteen minute increments??? No wonder there is a general feeling of being rushed in this practice.
Having not really been to another practice for the past 15 years — I have to say that to the best of my limited knowledge, the dr’s seem quite good though.

I have been a patient for Foxhall for 13 years. Had 2 of my 3 children with previous doctors who have since left the practice. I continued in the practice after I was finished having my children and I was continually disappointed in: 1) wait times 2) incompetent staff in scheduling and billing issues. 3) the main reason I have stopped going there is the most senior of all of the doctors is so utterly arrogant. He misplaced my IUD and I had to have it surgically removed after telling him for months it was hurting me. It went through my uterine wall and although the surgery went relatively well, my post-​surgery was not smooth at all: infections, scar and for their mistake, I was then billed over $ 3000 for this surgery (after my premium insurance plan paid the rest). This is a «designer practice»: looks good on the outside but has little substance and leading doctors are arrogant and narcissists).

Not particularly memorable experience during my first visit, so it was pretty standard. But on my second visit, I waited over an hour to see the doctor. The reason? The nurse accidentally overlooked my form and pulled other patients’ forms ahead of mine. But even once they realized their mistake and I was taken back to be weighed and change, I still waited another 25 min for the doctor to see me. I skipped a meeting at work because of their carelessness. If you’re a busy professional, block off your entire afternoon.
That said, the doctors are good and otherwise a pretty good office.

I’ve been a patient at this practice since 2011 and overall I’m really satisfied. I go to the practice of the 5 female doctors that share patients. I got most of my pregnancy care with dr Stany, who is my favorite doctor in the group, and I lucked out because I went into labor when she was on call, and she ended up delivering my baby. The other doctors are great too, though with one of them there was some miscommunication about tests — she was relatively new and I think she just wasn’t well informed about test procedures, so she gave my husband and I inaccurate information. Nothing major, but it was annoying because the misinformation led to an additional visit (and time off work).
The facility is beautiful, quiet and zen-​like. There is no «craziness» in the waiting room or anywhere else. Exam rooms are clean and nicely decorated. Wait times can be a bit hit-​or-​miss. I find that in general, prenatal checkup wait times are not as bad as annual visit wait time. I’m not sure why that would be. Their front desk and billing staff have usually been very friendly and helpful to me, which is refreshing given the bad treatments that are usual at other doctors’ offices in the area.
I saw that other people complained about the triage nurse, but I actually had a good experience with her. I had a few hickups during and after the pregnancy and she handled my calls professionally.
There is an on-​site lab in the practice. I had only good experiences there: the lab technicians were invariable friendly and quick with the prick, if you see what I mean.

Foxhall is the nicest OB office I have ever been in. I see Dr. Sarafian but in talking with other patients, all of the doctors get great reviews. Please note that there is a group of five female physicians who all «share» patients and the rest of the doctors act independently. Check their insurance page to make sure the doctor you select participates in your plan, or confirm with the front desk.
The wait times can sometimes seem a little long, but I think that is because patients are getting personalized service that may take longer than normal. Much better than an office that is packed to capacity and patients only get five minutes with the doctor!
The whole facility is very clean and well decorated. There is a little play area in the waiting room for patients with small kids.
EVERY SINGLE nurse is super nice and friendly and approachable. I commented once on it and the nurse told me that the doctors all treat the staff well too.
They use electronic records and have state of the art sonogram equipment on site.

I am new in town and called to set up an appointment as a new patient. Whomever answers the phone must hate their life because they were possibly the most miserable person to talk to. Unhelpful. Rude. I had done research and requested one Doctor who apparently doesn’t participate in my insurance but rather than tell me who at the practice does participate (after I asked if anyone does) I was told 5 or 6 doctors do. Hello — can you tell me who? No I have to look it up myself then call back. Not happening.
Needless to say, I will find a new doctor elsewhere. Sad that there may be some great doctors but their front desk makes future patients want to go elsewhere.

I used Foxhall OB/​GYN for the past four years while I was living in DC and I’m sure I would have been a lifelong patient there if I hadn’t just moved out of the area. Dr. Green was my primary gynecologist and I can’t make enough positive remarks about her. She has such a warm and friendly presence, and a very natural way of putting me at ease during the less comfortable portions of the exams. I imagine calling your OB/​Gyn a friend may sound borderline creepy, but it honestly felt that way. And beyond that, her knowledge base and efficiency were impeccable. She was sharp even after long nights on L&D call (which I was privy to as I was a medical resident at the time).
The entire office at Foxhall OB/​GYN is excellent, too. The office itself is beautiful, clean, and the staff at all levels are prompt and professional. I never had a bad appointment. I hope I’ll be lucky enough to find as great a practice in my new town!

My first visit to Foxhall I was very pleased with the experience. I didn’t have to wait long, and Dr. Sarafian was quick, knowledgeable, and friendly. The nurse doing my bloodwork was pleasant and made the process as painless as possible, and I was out of there pretty quickly. It is a bit inconvenient to get there if you don’t have a car, but there is a bus that leaves from the Metro every 30 minutes for Sibley Memorial Hospital that brings you right to the front door.
The only reason why I am giving 4 stars is because of the treatment I have gotten from one of the people that handles files. I moved shortly after my visit with Dr. Sarafian, and so I had to get my files to give to my new OBGYN. To say that this process has been annoying would be an understatement. You are supposed to email, fax, or send in a request for your files, and I did so with plenty of time. I have yet to get my files after over five calls to the office, and my appointment is tomorrow. It is all well and good until you need to move and get your files. This person makes it seem like you are an imposition and has not yet done her job.
