Georgetown Shell is your neighborhood auto repair shop in the heart of Georgetown. Bobby Ladson is our Service Manager and is an ASE Certified Master Technician equipped with over twenty-​five years of professional automotive repair experience. Our Technicians work on most foreign and domestic makes and models. Whether its preventative maintenance, routine maintenance, check engine light diagnostics, jump start, flat tire or any auto repair related question our goal is to provide service with integrity and honesty. We encourage anyone to ask questions if they are not sure and/​or comfortable with anything that is quoted because with an open line of communication margin of errors are minimized and satisfaction is maximized.

History

Established in 2013.

Our location has been a fixture in Georgetown for many years, Georgetown Shell is simply a rejuvenation of the corner of Wisconsin Ave. and Q St. Our facility has been built from the ground up, it touts all new equipment, leading Scan Tools, BG Flush Machines, Snap-​On Tools and more! Our Service Manager Bobby Ladson embodies class, his wealth of knowledge and persona is second to none. With over half a century of professional experience our customers safety is in good hands. Our staff looks forward to building relationships, trust, and along the way write its own history for many years to come. We look forward to the great opportunity in serving any and all!

Ok! So far I’m impressed with this shop! Bobby is definitely customer oriented & keeps his word! I called him to get a quote on my Vehicle, I explained to him what was wrong, and in about a hour he called me back with a quote. Then once I dropped my car off, on a Saturday he had it ready for me by close of business on Monday just like he said! I got my car back, he fixed the exact problem that I asked to be fixed and I paid exactly the quote that was given to me and not a cent more. So far, I like this shop & I’ll be back

I absolutely love this place. Been twice with our 2002 Honda, once for a window replacement and then for an oil change. Bobby and the crew really own what they do, and are great at it. I wouldn’t take our car anywhere else. Even if you only end up stopping by for gas, pick yourself up a Bobby’s original Georgetown Shell skull tee from the shop.

Kind, quick, great communication. My car was towed here and feel I lucked out big time! Bob seems to be as honorable a business man as his voice is deep and soothing (in case that was unclear, I think he’s fair and he has a nice voice). The cashier and the guys who shuffled the cars to get mine out were all also very nice.

Bobby and his team are as wonderful as his reviews say. Saw my tire was a bit low last night when I got home, and called them right away. Was told to call back this morning and they fit me in immediately. Turns out I got lucky and didn’t have a hole in my tire, but if I do have car troubles in the future I’ll take my car back here!

I had an amazing experience at this Shell! Bobby is so helpful and the Mechanics were wonderful. They drove with me to diagnose the issue and then gave me a totally reasonable estimate. I will be returning and strongly recommend anyone in the area to do the same! Well done Georgetown Shell!

A previous review by another Unilocaler noted that Bobby had hooked their car up to the computer several times to retrieve the error code, but that the station had then refused payment, as they «hadn’t done anything.» Well, I just paid $ 140 for that same diagnostic, but perhaps that was sour grapes that I chose to take my car to Auto Tech instead, whose prices are considerably less than what Georgetown She’ll was attempting to gouge me for.

Very knowledgeable staff. Bobby is GREAT. I used to do quite a bit of home mechanic work and know some about cars. I took my EVO MR in to Bobby to replace my transmission fluid (this stuff is $ 250 just for the fluid that I bought on my own). I did research and even printed out some things to help Bobby’s team do the work and they were open to having some additional info.
They did a great job and it was fast! I do not usually like taking my car to other people to work on but this shop is honest and trustworthy.

Bobby and his team are exactly what you hope for when you need to bring your car into the shop — they tell you the truth, they don’t add services that you don’t need, and will explain things clearly so that you know whats happening.
I’ve had my car seen by Bobby and by another mechanic in Rockville (also rated 5 stars) and was surprised to find that for the same service, it was actually cheaper here and with wayyyy less attitude.

Bobby is simply the best mechanic out there. He does fantastic work at an incredibly reasonable price. Plus, he’s super friendly and always explains the problem with your vehicle in a way you can understand. Most importantly, Bobby is very honest. He’ll always tell you what work you need and don’t need, and he understands that budgets are often tight. I will never see another mechanic again.

Last Friday, February 20, in subzero temperatures while at the Georgetown Safeway… my car suddenly would not start. It was the battery – it never did that before and I was terrified since it was so very cold and I had an elderly neighbor with me.
I called Bobby from the parking garage. He sent over a great mechanic, Abel, who found me within fifteen minutes. He recharged and checked my battery and verified that it was okay but that it was the extremely cold temperatures that caused the problem. Abel, then at my request filled my window washer reservoir – from a gallon of washer fluid in my trunk. My dashboard indicated that one of my tires had low air pressure so I followed Abel to the Shell station – maybe four or five blocks at most– and he checked the air pressure in them. Sure enough, my two front tires had lost pressure due to the cold air so he filled them completely. What a relief! The indicator light on my dashboard returned to normal.
When I asked how much I owed him – he said whatever I felt I wanted to pay. He seemed happy with what I paid him and I voiced my heartfelt gratitude –then let him retreat to the warm garage and I went on my way. Just another day to the Georgetown Shell – but a lifesaver for me, a VERY happy customer.

Absolutely amazing and honest service.
I came in for a simple oil change before a long distance drive and Bobby and his team noticed a few issues with my vehicle.
He was able to effectively explain the implications of his findings and even threw in free body work with his service free of charge!
Was very pleased and would recommend his services to anyone in the DC area!

I was kind of surprised at about how many good reviews this place has. I went for a simple oil change and they recommended a lot of extra stuff, half of which I knew was garbage. For example they recommended I replace the cabin air filter even though I had recently replaced it and knew it was clean. Not the kind of mechanic you have confidence in.

I had left the previous review as I was on my way to pick up the car. As it turned out, they had done some repairs on it without notifying or asking me. I was surprised to see a bill for $ 250 for a replaced battery. I spoke with the manager who was also very professional and polite. He offered to put my old battery back in and assured me that it was their normal protocol to call the client first, but that I had somehow not been called because they were so busy. He explained what was wrong in a way that even I could understand. If I needed a new battery then I would have gotten one, I just would have liked to know about it first.
In the end, I’m not as impressed as I had been. The people I spoke with were so friendly and professional, though, that I’ll probably come back next time I need service.

So after seeing a lot of 5 star reviews, I decided to take my car in to this shop. Just to get right to it; it was my best experience with a mechanic ever.
Bobby was very helpful and explanatory for my layman’s understanding of cars. He went above and beyond to get me all the information I asked for and the service was extremely fast (got the car back the day after dropping it off; less than 24 hour turn around).
Not to get into the finer details, but they recognized a mistake made by a previous mechanic done not too long ago, corrected the issue, and gave me a play by play explanation of what was being fixed with a reasonable quote for parts and labor. It was an extremely painless and seamless operation over all.
I know I will be taking my car here for all future car trouble and cannot recommend Bobby and his crew highly enough.

I was too harsh.
I was in a really bad mood last year, having just biked through the rain and cold, and I was very frustrated at not being able to buy my brake light. I took it out on the Georgetown Shell; I took it out on Solomon.
I recently returned to actually get work done on my car. True to all the five-​star reviews, they were fantastic. Bobby the Service Manager was a gentleman who quickly and efficiently got my car taken care of. They fixed all the problems within hours, treated me well, and charged me fairly. Solomon is actually a wonderful man who works hard at his job and serves his customers with a smile.
I’ll be heading to Georgetown Shell for all my auto repair needs, and I suggest everyone do the same!

I’ll admit, I liked this place from the start, but I wasn’t won over completely. I would have written this place 4 stars.
Bobby did some minor work on my car when I first got to DC, and then 6 months later I switched it up and went to a repair shop closer to where my office was at the time.
I left that job a few months back, and I have had 2 interactions with Bobby since.
First, I called up to ask a question about my car and he gave me advice on how to fix it right there over the phone. I didn’t even have to bring the car in.
This most recent one, I had issues with one of my tires making a weird rattling noise during sharp turns. When I brought my car to him, he couldn’t find it at first (it turned out the noise was actually kind of hard to make, and required turning the right direction at the right speed). Anyway, within a few hours, he had that fixed AND found a few other problems on the car and fixed them for no extra charge.
I tried to pay him for the extra work and he insisted on doing it for free because, in his words, «he’d rather have a loyal customer».
Well, he got one.

I hate taking my car in to get an oil chance, let alone get repairs done. I know very little about cars, for sure, but probably more than the average person. That said, I took my car to the Georgetown Shell after reading the fantastic reviews here. I took it in for an oil change, but it had been a long time since I’d had my car looked at, so I figured there would be other problems. The brakes were kind of mushy and I knew the belts needed to be replaced (evidenced by the loud tweeting sound the car made). So I was expecting the «here’s what we found wrong with your car while doing the oil change» call.
Yes, the brakes and belts needed to be replaced. Bobby was SUPER honest about the timeline and the importance of getting everything squared away. At first I turned down the brake replacement, and Bobby totally respected the decision– but I ended up calling back 10 minutes later to have them do the replacement. I dropped my car off at 8am this morning and it was done by 3pm with an oil change, new belts, new brakes (and rotors) and– to my surprise– a nicely vacuumed interior.
For someone with as much anxiety as I have about car repairs, it was a very calming experience. Bobby made sure I knew exactly why he was suggesting the repairs, left all decisions up to me, and was an all-​around great guy to deal with. When I picked up my car, he even saved the the parts he took out so I could look at them and see what the issues were. He did all of this without ever talking down to me and it’s much appreciated.
All that said, if you have a car in DC and don’t have mechanic you trust (or like), take it to the Georgetown Shell and you will not regret it.

I called yesterday and talked to Bobby to schedule an oil change and he was very accommodating. I pretty much searched for automotive service on Unilocal and was drawn to Gtown Shell because of their stellar reviews. Could it all be true?
Other than being located on a busy corner of Georgetown (Wisconsin and Q), this place is top-​notch. It’s cool to speak with Bobby because he’ll tell you up front what needs to be done for your vehicle. There are some additional non-​urgent repairs that Bobby recommended but I didn’t have time to have it all done today so Bobby gave me a detailed, convenient to-​go sheet as a reminder.
Oil change service was about an hour — just enough time to walk around Georgetown and grab a cappuccino.
