Georgetown Valet

Best dry cleaner in the city. We live 15 minutes away, have a bunch of cleaners within a few blocks away and we still drive here.
They do a great job with everything. My wife even had her wedding gown cleaned and packed in an airtight bag here. Was expensive but worth it. I’ve also had multiple jeans and dress pants hemmed here and all were done professionally and with a quick turnaround.
Prices are a little expensive but well worth it.

Today, I had one of my worst experiences at a drycleaners at Georgetown Valet. I brought them a suit last week to press. When I received it back, there was a line of obviously and weirdly wrinkled fabric (for lack of a better description) on the shoulder. In addition, the collar was poorly pressed, so that when I wore it with the jacket buttoned, there were (2) places where the collar line clearly wasn’t straight, as collars are meant to be.
When I brought these problems to the attention of the woman managing the shop, she did everything she could to get me back out the door without seriously trying to fix the issues. Upon looking at the shoulder, the woman at the register said, «Oh, we can fix this!» But then when she brought it back after an attempt, it wasn’t any better. At that point, she told me that they «press suits all the time and this never happens.» But that was clearly untrue as her initial impression upon seeing it had been that «this would be easy to fix» — meaning this does happen occasionally. She then said that it was clearly a «problem with the fabric» or «the tailor had made a mistake,» and I needed to bring it back to them. But I insisted that that made no sense given that it wasn’t there when I brought the jacket in, and that they give it a new try. They were able to remove most, though not all, of the weird wrinkles.
Then, when I raised the collar issues, she said she would try to fix it «just once» — as though I was imposing on her to fix the problem that the establishment created with my suit. When she brought it back, the original (2) «bumps» were gone — but there was a new one! I’ve never had this issue with drycleaners before! When I told her what had happened, she deflected. She told me that «I am sorry we are not perfect» (missing the point that perfection is not the goal — a pressed suit without any new wrinkles or creases is).
My experience today was that Georgetown Valet’s first response to having made mistakes on someone else’s clothes is not to try to seriously fix the mistakes first — it’s to unapologetically try to deflect blame and get the person with legitimate complaints out the door ASAP. Barring a real apology and meaningful offer to make this right — and follow through — I will not be going back to this establishment.
UPDATE: Upon hearing about my experience, Mr. Chang went far out of his way to get in touch with me and apologize and offer to make things right. I really appreciated his efforts in this respect, and I trust him when he says that it is his goal to ensure that all of his customers – and their clothes – are treated with the care and respect they deserve. He has also made a serious effort to make things right by me, including by offering to fix the poor pressing free of charge. Again, his efforts speak volumes to me, and I will plan to return to Georgetown Valet for future drycleaning needs.

Had a suit with a ripped hole on the arm sleeve and Gtown Valet was able to fix it up no problem. Very good experience.
The place is family owned and operated and Mr and Mrs Chang are probably some of the nicest people you will meet. Very welcoming and humble people. If you take a moment to chat them up you can tell they are customer satisfaction oriented and have a strong family work ethic. Highly recommended.

I tried them based on reviews and proximity to work. I asked for creased sleeves on my dress shirts. I got them back and they had no crease. No prob. Maybe a miscommunication. I left them for a redo. I got the shirts back and they had TWO creases! WTF ! Second place that does that to me. Must be the in-​thing to do to new customers.

They were very friendly, so I will give them my dry cleaning business. I brought a patch to be sewn on a jacket and they missed a stitch so it only lasted a day. A friend ended up repairing it by hand for me and its held up. I am short so I often get pants hemmed but I don’t know that I trust their sewing.

I drove out of my way to bring my dry cleaning to this place because of the great reviews. I arrive at 6:45 on a Tuesday night to find the door locked and not a soul in sight. It makes it a bit difficult to rate the quality of work and customer service when they aren’t open during their posted hours to drop off/​pick up your clothing.

I’ve hemmed jeans, tailored a suit (jacket sleeves shortened and pants hemmed), and gotten my suit cleaned, and all have been very well done! The prices are «DC reasonable» — cleaning a suit was about $ 12, hemming pants was ~$ 15 — but I feel confident that things will come back right.

Georgetown Valet has reasonable prices and nice service. Had them dry clean and hem a couple pairs of wool suit pants, and they did a fine job.

Initially had a bad experience with customer service here, when I took 3 pairs of slacks to be hemmed. However, the owner reached out to me, apologized, and offered to re-​hem the slacks and refund my money. I definitely appreciate the extra effort to ensure customer satisfaction.

My washer broke as I was getting ready for a trip — convenient.
I needed a few things washed so I called Georgetown Valet in a panic. They told me it’d be no problem and that they understood my urgency — so I dropped off my clothes at 9 am Wednesday morning and picked them up Wednesday evening around 6. Whoever was working was so kind, so friendly, and very calming as I was frustrated at my situation. A little over 10 pounds of laundry and $ 20 bucks later, I’m one happy camper!

Did a nice job hemming my cotton/​polyester maxi dress for $ 25 — which is about market rate in the Capitol Hill SE area! They offer 20% off new customers’ first order. I will be back.

Excellent service. Their tailor is very skilled at his craft. They are also very accommodating when I needed something taken care of sooner than later. I will continually use them!

Even though I live 2 blocks away from a fairly decent cleaners, I’m now happily driving 10 minutes from my home to take my clothes to Georgetown Valet. They are a little bit more expensive than other cleaners but I’m so impressed with the quality of work that they do, and everybody working there is as nice as can be. They even got a pesky stain out of a white shirt that my old cleaners told me would never come out, and they actually QC their work to make sure that everything is just right. I’m a fan!

Good dry cleaners– had no issue and they return clothes very quickly. Check-​in with Unilocal and received a discount your first time.

I was out at a bar and the gentleman next to me spilled red wine on my white pants… Like the whole, full glass. I thought these pants were goners and the woman at the counter was even skeptical.
When I picked up the pants, by some magic they were able to get a of the wine out. I’m more than thrilled and will be taking all my clothes here from now on!

Update to my review:
After speaking with the owner, he told me that if they didn’t locate my shirt they would make arrangements to replace my shirt since I was a first-​time customer. He was very apologetic and followed-​up daily until they found my shirt today.
I have to hand it to them, they were relentless about making me happy.

This was my first visit to GV. I dropped-​off 7 of my shirts yesterday and asked to have them ready by Sat. I received 7 shirts back the next day, but, one was NOT mine.
Like a good citizen, I took back the shirt that wasn’t mine. Unfortunately, they said that it will take up to 2 weeks to locate my shirt. Chances are it is gone forever.
When I asked them if they would pay for my shirt they stated they would only give me a store credit. I think this is unsatisfactory and wanted to inform my fellow Unilocalers.

5 stars on quality, service, and accommodating a same-​day turnaround request. This is a place I would trust to take care of delicate fabrics and designer-​label dresses/​blazers. There really is nothing more to say!

I have been going here for about two years for dry cleaning/​alterations. The family that runs this particular Georgetown Valet is totally awesome and always works incredibly hard to get my stuff clean.

Been my cleaners for four years now, and wouldn’t go anywhere else, but hadn’t written a review.
However, now I have to. I picked up my laundry, in terrific shape, as always, and the lady told me I’d left something in my pocket and handed me a little envelope. Not that unusual, as I can be forgetful. When I got back in the car, I opened the envelope, and in it was a wad of $ 155 in cash.
Skipping over how I could forget that was in my pocket, the honesty and service that goes with what they did is incomparable. Thanks.
