My fiancée and I (late 20s) started our ring shopping at I Gorman, and it surpassed all the other locations we subsequently visited. A huge part of this is due to Allison’s high level of customer service and personal touch. Allison promptly introduced herself, got us mimosas, and walked the two of us through the array of settings available. She quickly learned and adapted in response to my fiancées taste. She also helped us visualize what certain settings would look like with a sapphire, something we were considering.
Several weeks later, Allison brought in sapphires for me to examine at my request. After not loving any of the initial offerings, and having found another potential ring and stone at Quest in Virginia, Allison brought in a new tranche of sapphires overnight right to my specifications. I ultimately found an ideal stone for the setting my fiancée loved, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.
Throughout the process, Allison and the I Gorman team maintained a highly supportive attitude that emphasized customer satisfaction and decisions on my own timetable. In particular, I never felt pressured and wasn’t charged a fee to bring in stones to look at, unlike at other stores like Quest.
As other reviews have said, I Gorman isn’t the cheapest option, but if you’re looking for a highly reliable, high quality, customer oriented, family owned store this is the place. Can’t recommend Allison enough.

I took in my grandmother’s 1940s wedding band to get strengthened/​repronged. The wedding band had a lot of beautiful detail and was extremely intricate. After I. Gorman fixed it, it looked as if they had plastered metal on the sides of the ring, and it lost all of its detail and beauty. This was devastating, as this ring was sentimentally worth so much to me and my family. I ended up taking the ring to another jewelers, who said too much damage had been done and that it could not be fixed. The new jewelers remade an exact replica of the ring (for $ 1,000) and I sold the I. Gorman ring for scrap metal. So disappointing.

I Gorman is the best jeweler in DC, hands down. I believe that when yu are spending a significant sum on anything, that the product should be paired with exceptional customer service. Adam Gorman and his sister, along with their staff deliver. When you walk in the door you are greeted with champagne and taken care of the second you walk in the door. Since they do such a good job and have so many unique designers, they are popular, so beware that on the weekends they may fill up with appointments on top of walk-​ins so just expect that this is par for the course. Don’t freak out-​leave a nasty Unilocal review-​and miss out on everything I Gorman has to offer. I have been in the store on weekdays and weekends and have pleasurable experiences both times, with and without appointments. If I did have to wait a few minutes, they were quick to offer me champagne, clean my rings, and allow me to browse around.
I did a ton of research when I was searching for the perfect engagement ring. I wanted something different from the big solitaire or pave cushion cut. I did my research and stopped at a few shops on my own, before I brought my then, boyfriend to a store. His patience for any kind of shopping is limited, so I knew that I only wanted to drag him to one store so he could get an idea of what I liked. After visiting all of the diamond retailers in the DMV, I decided on I Gorman. Best choice ever. We found my ring the first day, my boyfriend took note and within a few months we were engaged. I was so thrilled to see he got the ring I loved, since I wasn’t sure if he was going to go the internet route or not. We got engaged in December and started shopping for his ring and my wedding band around April, for a September wedding.
I Gorman is the only jeweler in the city that carried Jennifer Dawes. Adam explained to us that we could go to her website, pick out a few rings and he would have them delivered to the store for us to try on. We wanted a diamond for my husbands ring and he even had a few diamonds flown in to look at on top of the different bands. This was amazing, we picked out one of the diamonds and the band together, they went together so perfectly, and now he has a totally custom piece. I was not so easy, I couldn’t make up my mind as to which band to go with. Adam could tell that I was not liking any of the ones he had flown in the first time around so he had more shipped. This was amazing! The second shipment was definitely what I was after and I couldn’t be more satisfied with my final product.
Since Adam is now my go to jeweler, when my mom was in town helping with the wedding planning we stopped by I Gorman to check out his pearls. My mom had been shopping for the string of pearls for a while so she knew what she was doing. My mom ended up loving Adam so much I thought she was going to purchase his whole stock of pearls. We ended up with a beautiful pearl necklace, Tahitian drop earrings, and pearl stud earrings. The pearl studs matched my necklace perfectly, but the size of the posts were too big for my ear holes. Adam replaced the posts for free! I could not believe the level of service he provides. He is the Super-​Jeweler. He also set my mom up with new earring backs for her diamonds and cleaned all of the jewelry that she was wearing. Class act.
Just a side not, but buying diamonds on the internet takes all of the interest and intimacy out of picking out YOUR diamond with a jeweler. Not to mention the convenience of having a jeweler stand behind their product. I can stop in at I Gorman any time to have my rings cleaned, examined, and re-​sized. God forbid anything happened to one of my diamonds, I know that I Gorman would help make it right.

I bought both my Kirk Kara engagement ring as well as matching wedding band last year at I Gorman and I am so, so glad I did. My husband also bought his Furrer Jacot band here as well. We both love them! I scoured the city from high to low looking for the perfect lifetime pieces and only I Gorman had the unique but classy styles I was seeking.
The best thing about this place is the service.
The first two times I visited for my engagement ring setting, I was so indecisive I left without making any purchases… but I never felt pressured nor like I was wasting their time. Allison was so courteous and followed up by email, promptly responding to all my annoying questions.
That genuine and professional attitude– along with the gorgeous ring– was what got me to go back a good 3 months later to seal the deal. And also again twice more for the wedding bands.
This week I needed to resize my rings and Allison actually remembered me and put me at such ease. She even went the extra mile to try and get the ring back to me within a week before I leave town. That’s the kind of going-​the-​extra-​mile that is just awesome here. Thanks so much for continuing to take care of me and my diamonds over a year later! I’ll be back for my upgrade in a few, lol.

My fiancé and I stopped by IGorman’s today to look at wedding bands. Allison helped us for the majority of our time there. She was extremely nice and helpful. We had went to Mervis earlier that day and so I had an idea of what styles I liked and didn’t like. Allison showed me many styles that I had in mind and encouraged me to try on some other styles that I thought I didn’t like as much based on my experience at Mervis. Glad I did because I ended up liking some of the styles more at IGorman’s based on their wide variety. They had many delicate, dainty rings that Mervis did not quite offer. All in all, I really enjoyed their selection and customer service.
The one thing I will say is that when we first walked in an older woman began helping us. She seemed a bit disengaged and did not offer us anything to drink. This isn’t something I expected but all other customers were offered champagne and other beverages by IGorman salesmen… If you are going to offer this to some people, you should offer it to all… not just ones you deem as «valuable» customers. Again, because of my experience with Allison, I found this place to still be great. She even offered to clean my ring at the end of our stay! I look forward to moving forward in purchasing my band here.

Service was exceptional but the diamond prices were not competitive with online retailers. It might be because of the overhead being in DC. I ended up ordering my diamond online and got the setting from another DC jeweler. The setting price was much more than other places. They are cheaper than Tiffanys. Remember a diamond is not an investment. If you are willing to pay more for service this might be your place. Otherwise shop around online like b2c jewels. Learn much as you can about diamond. There are more than 4Cs. Don’t forget about other factors like depth and flourescence. Again they are wonderful people just more expensive.

I got my wedding band at iGorman, at the suggestion from a co-​worker. My fiancé and I happened to show up on a day when they had a variety of merchants displaying jewelry and a bridal sale going on — sweet! Because we went in the middle of a day on a Friday we practically had the place to ourselves and Adam Gorman helped me himself. He was very informative, answered all my questions, and was super patient when I took forever comparing options. I thought he was most helpful in convincing me to get a ¼ size smaller than I otherwise would have — it fits much better this way. However, I did feel some pressure to go with a wider width than I was initially looking at, even though I had stated I wanted something really slim. Obviously, the choice was mine in the end, but I felt definite pressure toward one option. Overall, I’m happy with my choice in the end and would recommend the store to others.

I highly recommend iGorman jewelers for their high quality selection of beautiful jewelry and superb customer service. The Gorman family is extremely knowledgeable, detailed oriented and welcoming. My fiancé purchased my gorgeous engagement ring/​wedding band and diamond studs from iGorman. We had a fantastic experience picking them out and working with Nicole, who was patient and a pleasure to work with. Given our positive experience we returned to choose a wedding band for my fiancé and were met with the same wonderful customer service. We easily found a wedding band that fit my fiancé as iGorman carries a wide range of designers with high quality, customizable options that span different styles. In April of 2014 I purchased my fiancees engagement ring from iGorman while working with Allison — she was attentive and listened carefully to make sure that I selected the right ring. She was also not pushy and made sure I left with photo’s of the ring in my email inbox so that I could talk to my fiancees mother before purchasing the ring. iGorman’s warranty is amazing and Allison has cleaned and polished my fiancees ring multiple times. When you arrived customers are always greeted with a smile — the best jewelry store in the DC metro!

I hate to do this, but I’m changing my rating to 3 stars/​A-​OK. I’m still a fan, but am just not feeling that magic anymore. A big part of it is that I think my old SA left, as she hasn’t been in during my last few visits. The service isn’t terrible by any stretch, of course, but I’ve left each recent visit vaguely and increasingly dissatisfied.
Staff aren’t as quick to offer to dip my rings in the ultrasonic and the newer SAs seem to be quite young and less experienced. An SA tried to tell me that the thinning/​stretching effect I was seeing on the shank after resizing must be due to normal wear. Sorry, but platinum cannot thin noticeably as white gold does, particularly in less than 2 years of wear! I’m guessing that they actually resized my ring by shaving a bit off the inside.
I was also a bit weirded out on my last visit, when the young SA helping me repeatedly plonked some delicate pave and gemstone pieces (including my own $ 2,000 necklace that I handed over for safekeeping, argh) on the countertops without getting out a mat or tray.
Still, I do like that I. Gorman continues to bring in interesting designers. I think they just recently added Gurhan (yummy high-​karat gold!) and Gellner (some cool pearl pieces). On my last visit, I noticed they also have some pieces from less expensive lines, such as Gabriel & Co. and Margoni, and had cleared away some more expensive (but oh-​so-​lovely!) Atelier Munsteiner cuffs, so perhaps they are working on broadening their appeal? Which is fine… but I still want the old-​world service! Maybe I’m the only one.

I visited this location and Bonnie helped me out. She took me through the whole store and showed me a number of items. What a great experience!
Although I didn’t find the piece I was looking for here, I would recommend this place to others and will return for future visits; there is a wide selection of differing styles and price ranges.
Bonnie was also kind enough to send me photos of the items we looked at together so I could consider them overnight.

This is the best jeweler in DC if not the east coast. I have bought many, many items from them and the service and care have been outstanding.
More importantly we went to get our wedding rings made here. I was able to bring in my mothers wedding ring and give them an overall design of what I wanted to incorporate with new stones on a napkin! The care and love of working with us on making my ring a combination of new and old stones was amazing. We went back for several fittings/​consultations, picked out the stones that I preferred while the whole time feeling like I was getting a realistic idea on costs. They kept me updated and really wanted it to be perfect for me. Such care and honesty is hard to find. At the end of the day my happiness with the end product was paramount.
After waiting for the results it was finally ready. They brought us in and unveiled the finished product with tons of fanfare. Being so hands on they really understood my goals. When I saw it for the first time it brought tears to my eyes. Seeing my moms ring and mine together was so special. Two years later I look at my ring and smile and I still think of the process of buying this ring. It was by far the best high end transaction I have had to date.
Living in Atlanta now I would go to the trouble of visiting them in DC again for any jewelry purchases.

My fiancé and I could not have had a more perfect experience than we did at I. Gorman. When we arrived for our appointment with Bonnie the first thing we noticed was the champagne chilling for mimosas. We like champagne! Bonnie spent three hours with us and every minute was fun, informative, and respectful of what we wanted. Never once did we feel any pressure. The selection of diamonds was wonderful. We found the perfect Princess cut diamond for my engagement ring. We were so happy with the experience that we chose my fiancé’s wedding ring too even though we won’t need it until next summer. With a lifetime ahead of us, we know that we’ll look to I. Gorman for future special gifts. Their gracious and hospitable service won us as loyal customers.

Went to Gorman ‘s Ultimate Ring Event earlier today with my fiancé. After a harrowing experience at Jared’s, this place was a breath of fresh air. I loved Kalee, who was representing «Sholdt» designs from Seattle. She seemed genuine, honest, friendly. She wasn’t pushy, she wasn’t fake and she just got what I wanted. She made the process fun. There were a few other designers from LA and Dallas. All those reps were nice and helpful. Everyone seemed to dress and act like themselves. It wasn’t a bunch of stuffy drones in a salesman suit who care more about their bottom line than your individual engagement experience.
I only gave a 4 because I am not sure if I am going to get my ring there or not. I put a lot of rings on my finger and liked a lot of them but I didn’t have a «this is the one» moment. I also think I could get something very similar to my favorite ring of the day somewhere else a bit cheaper. After all, this is downtown DC. But this place is a great place to start looking for sure. The service is INCREDIBLE. Marilyn was amazing. Honestly, it is some of the best of ANY business I have ever been to. The sales staff is knowledgeable and caring. They help you get what you want, not tell you what you want like other places. Their store policies are unbeatable. Their inventory is classy and unique. Going to this establishment was a very positive experience!

I love this place! Bought my engagement and both our wedding bands here. 13 years later, they are still in great shape.

I went to get my ring appraised here recently and had to pick up before the appraisal. Over the phone we were given a misleading quote on the cost for the appraisal and upon dropping it off, given a steeper estimate. Be sure to double check the cost of something before you trust someone with something as precious as an engagement ring. While they were friendly about returning the ring, there seemed to be a bit of snootiness in the fact that I seemed to not be able to afford their appraisal.
