Imaj is so fantastic that when I was traveling, I literally went months without a haircut because I didnt want anyone else cutting my hair. I really must commend them for always giving you exactly what you want, styled beautifully, without complaint. (Too many places ignore the clients’ request or grumble about it. Not here — they are highly professional and polished here. The salon, including its restroom, is aways extremely clean, has nice music, and they always offer you sonething to drink. Imaj stylisys tend to be in high demand — tends to need booking ahead of time, and note that you should be right on time given how in demand the stylists are. You’ll always walk out of here looking polished and fabulous and with exactly what you want. They have so many loyal customers from all across the DMV for a reason.

This review is a few months late but I would echo what Natalie M. wrote on 2÷13÷2015. There was a disconnect between what I spoke about and the picture I showed the stylist, and what he actually did. I went in with hair just above my shoulder length, with one layer that fell around my jaw line. I spoke with the man I saw for 5 – 10 minutes about the fact that I just wanted to fix the shorter layer as it was uneven. I told him I did not want my hair cut short as I was growing it out, so please don’t cut my hair short! I also told him I did not want a bunch of layers because as my hair is very fine and shorter, it can look thinner with too many layers. Long story short, he starts cutting, and cutting, and I finally realized he was giving me a very short A-​line bob with many layers. Furthermore each layer all around was visibly uneven. As he did technically give me a hair cut and I didn’t have the fortitude to pitch a fit, I paid and left and then had something akin to a panic attack when I went back to my friend’s apartment to really look at what was done. The positive note to this experience was that I did call the salon and convey what happened and they refunded me half the cost of the haircut. I ended up having to go to another salon closer to my home and have it fixed. I would think twice before going here if you have short hair. It seems that they do a nice job on long hair. I’ve since been called by the salon and told this person no longer works there so that’s a plus for future guests. They also offered to fix my hair for free if I’m in the area, which is a nice gesture.

A really relaxing, beautiful salon with exceptional customer service and talented stylists. I had to have an immediate correction done to my hair after a bad experience at another salon and they fit me in so quickly — I loved the end result/​color and left very satisfied. Extra, ‘neighborhood’ touches make all the difference: they offered me Turkish coffee, tea and wine. You feel like you are with family!

Rukiye did an amazing job with my eyebrows. I won’t trust them to anyone but her from now on! Though the price is a little steep, it was completely worth it.

I’m normally very picky about where I get my hair cut and having only been in DC for a few months, I checked out Unilocal to help me find somewhere close by. Imaj is a short walk from my apartment and had positive reviews so I decided to check them out.
Recep did an amazing job on my hair. I just needed a trim and he listened to what I wanted and my hair feels so much healthier. His blowout made me love it even more and my hair looks and feels so much healthier!
It is a little on the pricey side, but worth it in my opinion.

Always get hair blown dry here. Especially before going out of town. My hair always comes out sleek and shiny and lasts multiple days–
After multiple bad experiences at several Drybars, realized that regular blow outs need professionals. The people at dry bars are just learning hair – and few actually know how to straighten without a flat iron or any products!
I go to Recep usually, and any of the guys at Imaj are great– no flat iron, no product, ALL NATURAL!— this is the difference between a professional and a student.
And same price!

This is a cute corner salon located a few minutes walk away from my place. It’s a clean and cozy room, friendly service, not too crowded if you can go early in weekdays. Recep was really nice and did a great job with my hair colour. Apparently he also cares about customers’ feedback, which is a good sign of taking business seriously, I was thrilled that he called me back about it and invited me over. The prices are reasonable, overall a very positive experience.

I’d like to start by saying I’m very happy with my coloring and cut. My stylist fixed the problems I had with my hair easily.
Still, I had a very unfortunate experience with my stylist being too rough. Not only did he pull excessively hard on my hair, but he scraped the side of my head with a brush hard enough to make a mole on my scalp bleed. He also sprayed me entirely while washing my hair. Although the results were great, he did a careless job of achieving them.
To top it all off, it was pretty expensive. If I could work with a different stylist I might return.

LOVE Imaj Hair Salon! I was hesitant to try somewhere new after having some bad hair experiences in the past but I’m so glad I did! I have been going to Recep since 2012 now and I love the results! My hair is naturally curly and can seem dull when it’s straightened but Recep always does the best job blowing out my hair! If you want big full curls for an event or just a simple blow out with a lot of body — he’ll do a great job! I also have naturally dark brown hair so it can be nerve wrecking hoping highlights don’t turn out brassy but my highlights have always looked very natural. I have been asked many times how I get my natural highlights and I have to tell them about Recep! I would definitely recommend checking out Imaj Hair Salon! I’m a convert and even was able to convert my mom to becoming a loyal customer after she had gone to the same hair salon for almost 20 years.

I’m happy although not blown away yet by this place. Have been coming here for about 6 months now which means about 3 – 4 cuts for me. Let’s see if they conquer me or if I’m back to the market soon. Cuts are good, ambience is nice.

Geo and the rest of the family there are extremely nice and professional. Although the salon is dominican, I am African American and I am very pleased by the service. I’ve recommended all of my friends and they all love it!

I get my hair colored every 8 weeks or so. A wonderful colorist at my usual salon moved away, so I’ve been looking for someone new. This place alright, but nothing special. My color is fine, but not great and doesn’t have the kind of dimension I like to see from good salon color. The salon itself is also pretty dated, and does not have a good selection of products — mostly basic aveda. For the same $ 80 color, I’ll at least go to a salon with a more pleasant atmosphere.

Apparently there was some kind of disconnect because I asked for a few inches off and the guy took off twice the amount I asked for. If I had wanted my hair this short, I’d be happy because the stylist took his time and he did a good job blowing it out and straightening it at the end.
I’ll like this cut in a couple of months when my hair reaches the length I wanted.
After reading my review, the salon called and apologized, which is definitely appreciated, but in the end my hair is still much shorter than I wanted.

Brace yourselves, as I found the hair whisperer! I have always been very picky about who does my hair. Recep did an amazing job! I got a hair cut, partial foil, and blow dry. Everything was perfect! The customer service was great, and the assistant Lupe was a sweetheart. I will definitely be going back!

I love visiting Imaj when I am in DC. The space is light, open, relaxing and warm.
I was apprehensive about getting my hair colored, but I instantly felt at ease. I trusted John as he consulted with me and shared his own ideas for a natural transition from my bleached hair to my roots.
He took the time to look at my natural color, and showed me samples before mixing the color. He then went right to work, like a true artist. His professionalism and expertise were apparent throughout the entire process. I was amazed by his technique and the results!
And his blowout. Perfection. I have never left a salon looking so good (seriously).
Rukiye then took care of my eyebrows on the way out to complete my new look. I felt so taken care of! She did an amazing job only giving me a slight trim, and a light threading to clean up the lines of my always in the process of growing out eyebrows.
I couldn’t recommend this place enough. I have lived in NYC for 10 years and have tried countless salons.
I will only trust my hair, brows, and nails (ask for Lynn) to the team at Imaj from now on!

I’m 100% in love w/​my new haircut! Thanks for the haircut Recep! Every time I go he makes a better job as he learns my style and hair type! Thanks to my hairstylist and everyone who works there… they absolutely know what they are doing… everyone is kind and love the Turkish coffee they serve.

The best hair salon ever for both women and men in metro d.c. area. I will even dare say it is the best one in va and md as well. They take the time to actually make your hair exactly the way that you want it! THE BEST ever! And the funny thing is there is no one single stylist thats good, they are all wonderful!

I just moved to forest hills. I was looking for a place for a last minute updo for a military ball I had 12÷06÷13. While browsing Unilocal,I found Imaj. I called a day or two before the ball and asked if they had any last minute opening, they set up with Franco.
I’m rather particular so I brought two pictures with me so the stylist would have either to choose from. One was blatantly a more difficult style than the other so I assumed Franco would go for the easier do.
Upon entering the salon, the front desk staff wasn’t the friendliest but that impression was quickly wiped away as I met Franco. He got right down to business and asked what the updo was for and what my ideas were. I told him I had a couple ideas and showed him the pictures, surprisingly he picked the more difficult style! He quickly got to work, making casual conversation but not the forced conversation I have come across in some other salons.
I have to say, my hair looked identical to the picture I brought in! I received compliments the second I walked out of the salon. Before leaving I discussed Franco’s suggestions for a future cut and color since I recently moved to the area, his ideas were well thought and fabulous. I will be leaving an updated review after my cut/​color.

I live in Cleveland Park and there are basically two hair salons within this price range and offering these services — Bubbles and Imaj. I started out going to Bubbles because I was a little intimidated by Imaj, but Bubbles’ extremely iffy customer service, odd employees, and insanely detailed, long-​winded, and yet somehow barely noticeable haircuts, led me to tentatively go with Imaj.
I completely by accident booked Recep (?) in a last minute New Year’s Eve appointment a year ago and I’ve never looked back. He’s friendly but doesn’t incessantly chatter or try to sell you products, and he KNOWS his stuff. I started out just getting my very long hair trimmed and blow outs, which were always well done, beautiful, and fast. I graduated to asking for a razor cut bob with long layers. He knew EXACTLY what I meant and made me look exactly how I envisioned with no picture. He always gives me an awesome cut and he does it fast. Imaj went from being my favorite salon in Cleveland Park to being my favorite hair salon EVER.
What can I say? I trust the guy with my hair. One time I tried to get blunt bangs and he told me, matter-​of-​fact, «Nope, you’ll cry.» I love a hair stylist who isn’t afraid to have an opinion.

UPDATE: I have now been to both Recep and Murat for a cut and color. While both are awesome and I left very happy, Murat is GOD’S GIFT TO HAIR. That is all.

I’ve been searching high and low for years for a good haircut (not just in DC, but in the other places I’ve lived as well) and it seems like I’ve finally found it! I really love Imaj Salon. I have deceivingly thick hair that usually hair dressers don’t realize until it’s already half dry and expanding in front of their eyes, so usually my haircuts end up being uneven. However, Cem did an AMAZING job. My appointment was at 4:30 and I was out of there by 5:00 (WHOA.) and my hair looked gorgeous. He didn’t even use any product, and the hairstyle kept for the rest of the day and night. There was not pressure to buy anything (I mean, who isn’t sick about hearing about «Moroccan Oil?» Yeah yeah yeah it’s not new, it’s not innovative, it came out like 10 years ago, and honestly there are way better products… sorry, I digress).
I highly recommend this salon!
